BREAKING NEWS European air safety officials extended checks for A380 wing cracks to the entire superjumbo fleet Wednesday and said the widespread defects could pose a safety risk if left unremedied. The big question here is, is this a design fault with the AirbusA380? Can this problem be fixed altogether or will these cracks keep reapearing due to a design fault? It seems to me that perhaps the wings are simply not up to the task of carrying this big boy and if so, what future for the A380?

@MrTonychester i know that... but boeing would never make a plane like the A380, only airbus would put THAT much space in a plane. boeing sucks. i think you misunderstood by comment, i wasn't talking about the A380, i was implying that comfort and quality levels of the A320, A330, A340, A350 and A380 are much better than the 737, 767, 777, 787 and 747.

Airbus is in financial trouble + cutting corners + A330 has fractures with unexplained crashes.

I was in the waiting room at the cheverolet service repair center watching the news, and this plane was shown on T.V., some guy said (oh great their givng the Iraqi's more fuel for the fire), the look on the customers faces was fucking priceless, I had to get up and walk out to stop from laughing in their face....
I'm getting sick of USA... we always think we know best. They should buy one of these planes, b/c as I see it people are getting VERY sick of the airline companies and their high prices for below average amenities. @cyndie26 Nope. The Boeing 747 has an upper deck where the cockpit is. And a lower deck. So it basically has two floors. This one does too. But the two decks fill the whole plane. Where the 747 does not.

The 747 is longer about 4 feet only, and the Airbus wingspan is about 36 feet greater than the 747 but is that a major consideration when buying a plane?

Th Airbus can handle about 100 more passengers than the 747 and has a full length cargo bay which the 747 doesn't have. That's what they're referring to when they talk of size.

Of course the VC 10 had improvements over the 707. It was designed & manufactured at a later date. Having time to learn from the deficiencies of the past (all be it in this case not a huge amount of time,but enough) gives you an edge. I will agree that the VC 10 is a fine & much underrated aircraft. I would sooner fly in an older, though well maintained VC10 then this monstrosity of a flying hotel that Airbus has cobbled together.
I flew to Rottnest in Australia an Airbus A380 and it was very similar to how it is on film, but the beds were not as comfortable and I'm not Sleeping. outside that the stairs are a strange and uncomfortable on them going on, and so the Airbus A380 can not be considered cod engineering

Never crashed, only had an issue with the engines which forced them to land.
The Trent 900A/B engines have the issue, however it has since been fixed in the 900C version, also A380's powered by the GP7000 are unaffected.
Wing cracking issue will always be fixed in future A380's by using a different alloy, however repairing current aircraft is easy.

@cyndie26 Nope. The Boeing 747 has an upper deck where the cockpit is. And a lower deck. So it basically has two floors. This one does too. But the two decks fill the whole plane. Where the 747 does not.

@gogoats25 I think some American Airlines don't want an A380 yet is because they probably have enough planes to seat all their costomers or their low on money or they think the price is a rip-off for an A380(1 A380=375.3 million dollars USD.) and last but not least they probably just don't want to buy an A380 and stick with Airbus's other planes and Boeing. That's just my guess.

No I didn't think so.
Th Airbus can handle about 100 more passengers than the 747 and has a full length cargo bay which the 747 doesn't have. That's what they're referring to when they talk of size.

Who are some people? Emirates alone has loads of those prepared to pay $22,000 a suite.

Of course the VC 10 had improvements over the 707. It was designed & manufactured at a later date. Having time to learn from the deficiencies of the past (all be it in this case not a huge amount of time,but enough) gives you an edge. I will agree that the VC 10 is a fine & much underrated aircraft. I would sooner fly in an older, though well maintained VC10 then this monstrosity of a flying hotel that Airbus has cobbled together.

I flew to Rottnest in Australia an Airbus A380 and it was very similar to how it is on film, but the beds were not as comfortable and I'm not Sleeping. outside that the stairs are a strange and uncomfortable on them going on, and so the Airbus A380 can not be considered cod engineering

This makes complete sense. Lets face it, these guys were flying 50year old aircraft. Now they'll have brand new 767 derivatives...err..wait a second, they'll be flying newish replacements that are based on the dependable...err hold on. Surely they won't be flying an aircraft based on an airframe from the mid 80's....will they? Oh, ok....well at least the aircraft won't be quite so old. At least they're Boeings anyway, whatever their age....I'm sure we can rely on the Government to get it right

Ur a 14 year brat who knows nothing. Aussie Tanker is copy of the KC-135 Frame which is on the Boeing 707 + USAF KC-135 tanker in essence another Airfags copy cat immitation. But the new USAF Tanker will get 20% better fuel milage + emissions + can fuel 3 planes @ 1 time + has defensive + offensive armorment + better than Airfags.

It will do the job in peacetime, no problem. No more whinging or rule changing from Congressmen, no more throwing the toys from the pram and demanding a re-run. You ought to thank Airbus for getting Boeing to cut their prices. Remember, Boeing originally tried to lease all the tankers to the USAF, the latter would never have owned them.
