  • Yes, when you are installing wood you would need to cut your molding

    like a "lap or scarf" joint. Do you know why this is done? Its because wood crown molding contracts and expands. You are making an Expansion Joint.

    This is so you don't see a full blow crack. Wood dries out in winter and shrinks.

    It expands in the summer when moisture fills the wood and it expands. Our crown molding will not shrink or expand. So you can use a straight cut or you lap joint.

  • You can hide that seam with a good 45 degree cut across the boards with a good miter saw.
