i would also suggest using the cheaper Wall insulation materials or Heat insulation materials found on Ovens. They're great and wont corrode. Easily found on junk ovens.
you have a flaw in you arrestor , and the flaw is you don't have the wool in the nipples to the back of the prongs , this little air space can keep a flame in it
There's more than one way to skin a cat, but I agree with this design. Fuck it, the extra 1,2,3,4, or whatever dollars isn't the point really! He's simply showing us his design...for FREE! Working with this stuff is the risk we all have to take in order to reach the point of success! I'm gonna wear a welding helmet with a clear lense and leather gloves when testing my first torch just to be on the safe side. Thanx for the vid, I'll give it a go!
drewmaster74 says your device would infact cost 13.27, however since he wants to nit pick. i'd say since you used less then a third of the bronze wool.. it's fair to say it cost 10.41 is an accurate "exact" ammount... i'm sorry but does an extra three dollars make it too expensive to bother with????
Do NOT try and hook up a generator without one of these. It is recommended to have a flash back arrestor and a safety bubbler, with some sort of blow out point if pressure builds up (like in an explosion).
Kind of redundant, but hey, safety first...? What do you think?
I am going to get an A/C signal and a Transformer and boost high voltage low current, then set a duty cycle by coiling stainless wiring on high temp high pressure PVC in a bubbler! :D
I'm going to be using PEX for my FB arrestors in the future. I found 3 feet of 1/2" for 97 cents. So all I would need is that and a 1/4" to 1/4" barb. PEX can withstand higher temperatures than PVC, as it is often used for hot water lines in construction over copper. Mine are done right, don't worry. I fully test them.
I will be selling them too, so if anyone is interested they can send me a message. I'll sell them at $15 shipped with brass fittings, PEX tube and fine bronze wool.
The surface melting point for PVC is 120' better look that up again. PVC is cheaper to use over a threaded pipe. Also the whole key hear is to save money, buying more parts then you need to is not going to save you money!. I am done commenting about FBA's you will need to get one of mine for it to be effective. You can get them on EBAY! or eliminategas(dotcom You have the right idea but if your selling them to people make sure they are done right.
Are you kidding me? The melting point of pvc is 80C and Nylong is 190C. The 80C isn't really the melting point but at that temperature it becomes "floppy" and changes state. Either way though, with the occasional flashback that gets put out almost instantly, it doesn't really matter what you use, plastic or metal.
Also you say "too many parts, not enough smarts." When I purchased parts, i went to a couple hardware stores and none had the right barbs so I had to use the male to female adaptor.
LOL you clearly don't know what you're talking about. When a flashback happens, it travels from the tube to the flashback arrestor then the flame gets put out so quickly it has no time to actually burn the nylon. The nylon barbs are thick and good quality it would take a long time to burn through them.
Also, like I stated before, I visited 4 hardware stores looking for parts. This is the best I could come up with the resources around me.
If you don't want to make it out of PVC like mine, you can goto home depot and buy the 4-6" threaded pipe with brass barb fittings and do the same thing, but your adding the two brass females then the barbs when you can simply use the Brass barb fittings that HD has in it's place. Like I said too many parts not enough smarts. Length should be between 4-6" for this to be effective. Nylon will get black and melt if it's sparking all the time. PVC is stronger then Nylon fittings.
Why are you giving him trouble? He is doing just fine.
Everyone has ran across a situation where they have had to make compromises due to the lack of availability of materials at some point or another.
Traveling to 5 or 6 hardware stores just to find the exact part you need will eventually reach a point of diminishing returns. It becomes less expensive just to buy and use the 'alternate' parts.
This is crap.. You can't use nylon ends they will get hot and burn and turn black. Please get our FBA at eliminategas(dotcom, not only this but your buying way too many parts to complete this kid's project.
Spacing does affect the gas output. I'd stick to 1/4" spacing or closer if you can do it safely. I just build another cell with 4 SS plates and I believe they are spaced less than a 1/4".
Why are you trying to separate the oxygen and hydrogen? There are pressure release valves you can buy on eBay that will release pressure every now and then when it builds up. You can also buy them at walmart I believe, or a store that sells fish tank equipment.
nice. I have been having trouble with my flashback arrestor. However, i use a clear film container for my bubbler and when i get a flashback all i get it a loud bang and the top pops off. But I am currently looking to build a new hho generator, one that would seperate the oxygen and hydrogen, using two tubes connected. I will also have to figure out how the store the oxygen so i can get pressure for the hydrogen, but then have a valve to release the oxygen once and a while. Any ideas will help.
Thanks for your tips. I have been interested in HHO for over a year, but I didn't have a car so I didn't do much... I thought about the Teflon tape direction after I already did it. I don't think I'd be able to tighten it much more with a wrench than with my hands. It is VERY tight. And I could not locate anything else to use other than brass. I visited 5 hardware stores in the area and there were no nylon hose barbs the size I was looking for, so I had to use brass.
asusreviews: Nice to see a young man like yourself interested in HHO. I hope you'll take this comment as a help full suggestion and not as criticism on your flashback arrestor. It is advised to wrap your Teflon tap in the direction that tighten it when adding your coupler, plus all connections should be more than hand tight. You can also shave the cost by eliminating the brass connectors and using the female style nylon hose barbs.... Looks great keep up the great work...

I dont see how it would work reliably. The gas would ignite and travel right through the tube into the HHO gen.

It is intended to prevent a fire from making its way back to your bubbler or hydrogen cell.
If the fire makes it to the bubbler or hydrogen cell, bad things can happen, really, REALLY fast!.
Consider it a safety device.

@asusreviews Well because I'm paranoia about flashback, What do you think about this setup?
From left to right all components in line:
HHO Generator - Dry Flashback - Bubbler - Dry Flashback - vehicle intake
Kind of redundant, but hey, safety first...? What do you think?
I am going to get an A/C signal and a Transformer and boost high voltage low current, then set a duty cycle by coiling stainless wiring on high temp high pressure PVC in a bubbler! :D

The arrestor works very good.
It does have one flaw. The problem is with the air pockets on each end.
A HHO fire can reside inside the tube in the open sections of the arrestor. (I found out the hard way)
The only way to put the fire out is to stop the HHO gas from coming into it.
Basically you need to pack the couplers at each end as well as the ends of each hose barb to reduce or eliminate any open voids within the arrestor.
just a suggestion.
