U are cheating you are holding down HELP M E keys as i used to play this game along time ago for hours on end and its a hard game to play when you never played it before as its all down to timing and i used to die alot in the game.
@cubex55 If you made a mistake, and were meant to have a Game Over and start from the beginning, but you did "something" to prevent that, then that is cheating. So yes it is cheating, it isn't that big of a deal... but it is not the same as playing the game properly and never will be. I was just saying..
Ok, your missing the point of long plays, It's called re-recording, he IS getting hit and even dying, but as the emulator records he saves states multiple times and then loads them during game play to cut down on editing or rerun a certain part. When he loads the states it rewinds the recording and records over it.
If you want to be pendantic, then you are right, however longplays are entertainment, no one wants to see a player fail 1000 times before he beats the game. Longplays are like movies, where the cutter removes all the bad takes, as no one would want to see a movie where all the failed takes are still in ;)

This game was AAAWESOME! Better than your average sidescroller. All my friends had consoles. When I used to tell them AMIGA was better, this was my proof! Gets confues with anither game with the exact same name though!!!

@cubex55 are you sure? because you can clearly see him getting hit quite a lot actually... for example at 5:00 he gets hit a couple of time and he even gets knocked to the ground! but the life bar doesn't decrease a single bit.
that's not a sword attack, but even when he gets hit by a sword (at 13:05 for example) the life bar doesn't change. same at 13:26 when the big ass arrow hits him from behind and knocks him down!
The original 1987 Barbarian was better than this version. It had better graphics, animation, and gameplay. Some of the "villians" were half the screen...
If I had to guess I'd say it was done using a cheat code, which would kinda defeat the purpose of a longplay. But I will admit that watching Capt. Jackass(the barbarian) turn every 3 foot fall into a perfect face-plant makes me smile every time. =P

He maybe a rampaging, blood-thirsty barbarian but at least he remembered to wear some sensible shoes!
I like the intro music, sounded like something from an old, b-grade kung-fun movie though.
