@seantal007 It can't run on AMD GPU's since they doesn't support CUDA on which PhysX hardware acceleration is based, obviously it will run without problem on the CPU

Stop trolling or I will prevent you from post comment here, is already the second time that I delete the same offensive comment...
@Stef3m Stupid nvidia fanboy , i hope nvidia take all your monye on ther stupid marketing , u stupid blind man. u see only nvidia in your face , u are blind. AMD performance in gaming is equal with nvidia and far over in other stuff like multi tasking , imagine quality ....etc And price/performance AMD blow nvidia. This is the reality so .... delete my comments if u are stupid nvidia fanboy. And 334 games use CPU to do physx , only few use GPU , like mirrors edge , mafia 2 , batman ...
@VooDooTroLL1 1) Well, maybe I'm stupid but remains the fact that PhysX is used in 334 games, even if most of them doesn't take advantage of the GPU and that Havok is less used.
I never said NVIDIA is better than AMD but your argumentation to support AMD superiority are pretty poor, talking about image quality the AMD 5000 series chip has an hardware bug in the texture units that in some textures generate a noticeable transition (banding) between mip-map level like bilinear filter does(continue)
@VooDooTroLL1 2) this was supposed back whit the card's release and then was officially confirmed by AMD with te release of the new 6000 that was supposed to fix that but it only mitigate this behavior.
The AMD anisotropic filter generate a notable shimmering on high detailed textures, the default texture filtering quality is lower than the NVIDIA, make filter economization even on trilinear filtering and skip 18%(28% tot) of filtering work more than NVIDIA(10%) on 16x AF at default(continue)
@VooDooTroLL1 3) Not to mention FP16 render targets demotion that alter something that ,unlike texture filtering quality, developers explicitly coded and has complete control of.
One thing is to change something that developers have no control of, another is altering developer work by default degrading quality in order to gain performance.
@VooDooTroLL1 Nvidia has Physx, but sinds the good graphics card are taking over by the Ati, ati has represented their Eyefinity and Nvidia's Physx, so they are thiefs like i say i,
@VooDooTroLL1 im a nvidia, ati and intel user i like all of them but ye i prefere nvidia cus always give me better results than the others so ye i like more nvidia o.O. And no im not a close fanboy.
But im pretty sure ur actually an idiot cuz u say shit with out have any idea of what are u talking about... bye.
@TheBigHase Your card support PhysX GPU acceleration, probably something goes wrong during PhysX System Software (PhysX SS) installation, try the latest driver 275.27 (remember to check the option to perform a clean installation) that include latest PhysX SS as well.
@Stef3m I now found out that there is an extra folder within the driver folder and there is an installer for PhysX so I did that now and will see if that improves or changes anything. Btw. latest driver for me is 270.61 no newer version at Nvidia at this point. Oh maybe you have an idea when a game (ArmA 2) CTDs with message "Error: Device reset failed 88678" - is that an issue with RAM or more Graphicdevice?
@TheBigHase 275.21 are beta while 270.61 are final.
Concerning ArmA, as a workaround I would recommend lowering Texture memory settings a bit - this could prevent or reduce the issue.
Note: it is quite possible upgrading to a 64b Vista or Win7 would cure the problem completely. Handling 1 GB of VRAM with 32b address space can be quite stressing for the system, and VRAM handling is a lot more robust with the new driver model.
@Stef3m That's affirmative! But I never use beta -drivers so I'll just wait a bit. Yeah I know that it would be good and time to upgrade to 7 and new Mainboard too , but I just can't afford it - I really don't understand Mr.Gates why 7 is so expensive he's not poor (like me for ex.) - and also :last night I could play without any probs - that is so weird that sometimes it runs like a charm and next time CTDs or stuttering freezes n'stuff. Maybe it will improve with future patches who knows...
Why some games only use physX. PhysX is good but it's stupid to use it when it only works with nvidia.. At least in mafia 2 you can choose to use or not to use physX and it's not that bad without it.
There are 3 things in a confined world, which could make water move, force, wind and sun heat, which are a nightmare for a gpu, and programmer alike. The problem isn't that it's hard, but it makes games very high-end, which means less people can play it on their 3 year old pc hardware. Crysis was the first game to really get in peoples face and say;" Fuck you & your shitty 3 years old pc.", which is why a lot of people like it so much. Fuck the majority, that's what Crysis is all about. Thanks!
@Sebal007 And in fact this is a promo... :), but maybe you are a bit confuse.
The first 2 example uses a particle SIMULATION to handle leaves and debris, the almost totality of games instead uses a pre-animated particle system, this is a huge difference.
@Sebal007 The animation it's computationally cheap, but is rigid, seems more "artificial", require to be designed (step by step) by an artist and every time it's the same.
The simulation it's computationally intensive, but is dinamic, can interact with the "rest of the world, and every time it's different.

@TearsOfWar1 like 9 games and of those 9 games ive only played mirrors edge. and batman, i have an nvidia case and geforce card but truth be told im thinking about building an ati rig, they charge 100 more for their cards and ati are cheaper and faster. physx was the only reason i could justify paying more but its a waste. also their multi monitor setup is horrible i need two cards to run 3 monitors but ati lets you run up to 6 monitors.
@pfernando27 IDK if you think I am an Nvidia fan or something but i'm not... I was just wondering if I should buy a cheap physx enabled card to run with my 5870... I am AMD ATI atm and has done me well :)
@TearsOfWar1 yeah if you know how to run the ati/geforce mod then yes,bc you cant run ati and geforce together, so.... i think you should get the 5870, my friend just built one, got a core i7 930, 6gigs of ddr3 ram, hades atx case, and the 5870. in any case enjoy whatever card you get.

The examples of the first 2 games are just DUMB SHIT.
you could create those effects with particles, performing on every System, using less CPU.
Those effects are just to promote, and not a real capability
Sebal007 1 year ago
@Sebal007 And in fact this is a promo... :), but maybe you are a bit confuse.
The first 2 example uses a particle SIMULATION to handle leaves and debris, the almost totality of games instead uses a pre-animated particle system, this is a huge difference.
Stef3m 1 year ago
@Sebal007 The animation it's computationally cheap, but is rigid, seems more "artificial", require to be designed (step by step) by an artist and every time it's the same.
The simulation it's computationally intensive, but is dinamic, can interact with the "rest of the world, and every time it's different.
If you have to simulate 10, 100, 1000 particle the CPU is the right answer but if you have to handle 10,000, 50,000 or 100,000 (like in fluid sim) the GPU becomes more efficient than the CPU.
Stef3m 1 year ago
@Stef3m
Thats right, but for the first 2 games, they could have added particles that do not interact with environment, using random parameters, you can change the look every time.
So, there is no reason to turn it completely off o.O
Sebal007 1 year ago
@Sebal007 but no one turn it completely off, because the original game have no such thing.
The developers, with the help of NVIDIA, made later a patch that add this particle sim
So it's a question of "perspective", it's not the CPU that has less, it's the GPU that has a "bonus".
Take Mirror's Edge for example, all the platforms (PS3, x360, PC) has the same game but with a GPU you get some nice addition.
Stef3m 1 year ago
@Sebal007 Is not that developers create a game and then turn off some things for the CPU, is the inverse, the developers create a game and then add some things for the GPU.
Probably APEX will help devs to scale automatically the simulation (reducing the particle for example) to the CPU.
