@Smokefyre It's not about people needing to fly somewhere and not being able to. It's about airports expanding to have more traffic and therefore more money (you do know that companies pay for their planes to use airports, right? Or did you think it was all some sort of public service?). The point is, Heathrow serves the flying needs of people very well. What they are interested in is increasing traffic in their role as an international hub.

I agree with her her! Does no one remember the Tenerife crash? It happened because there were 3 runways. 2 runways were there, 1 was take offs, one was landings, but the third one was both and there was a massive crash. We all need to take less foreign holidays. I have only done 1 foreign holiday out side of Great Britain and that was France (by ferry).

How very sensible this argument is! Emma is to be congratulated on putting this over so well. The government are indeed just being plain silly in allowing aviation expansion. I can see no way CO2 emissions will be reduced overall unless we reduce the emissions from the aviation sector as well.

I can't imagine how so many people need to use air travel! I have taken just two flights in my life, and that was on a choir tour...I would only ever fly if it was impossible to get there by any other means, e.g. by train. There's peope who commute by plane, and this astonishes me; why can't they just use their high-tech office stuff and do a video conference or something?

Also...it would be brilliant for the economy if they let the farmers sell us their food, instead of getting it flown in...

People of other professions can engage in politics, everyone is entitled to their opinion, we all have the vote emma included, but I think you should only get involved if its constructive criticism & valid opinion. Emma trying to be sarcastic & funny states she does not really know what she's getting involved in & is just jumping on the old " don't build the runway" bandwagon without really actually understanding the full extent of what it involves. Yes it has cons but the pros outnumber that.

i think the idea that people of certain professions (in this case acting) can't engage in politics is flawed. some celebrities do make ill-advised pronouncements and because they're famous their words go around the world. But by your logic, anyone who *isn't* a politician shouldn't be involved in politics and of course they are always so trustworthy and competent.
