What's good about Google is that it's free for all and every sides have what they want, it's not censored so you can find information about your boyfriends from the falun gongs, I know you like to get butt fucked by them.
Yes you are right, Baidu is just an incomplete travestite that is used by non-intelligent people (Chinese to be exact) and is off course censoring itself which means that it's completely useless because it's biased :)
@hujintaomustresign3 Oh, and don't accuse us of buttfucking, its your country that kills of female fetuses, so that your population has many more males than females.
If anyone is buttfucking, it is you, because you have no choice!
@DuhLie Yup google provides BOTH sides of the story, allowing people to THINK FOR THEMSELVES, instead of having the "correct" opinion forced on them, under threat of "subverting state authority" and ending up in laowgai, or castrated, sterilized or executed...
if they were so good, then why did they go in China in the first place?? why haven't they left? lol, do they like being threatened of being imprisoned etc etc?? (the only threat they have is shutting down btw lol, but i agree, it should be more severe).
but no, they're still there. and if they're still there, then that means they ARE subverting to state authority. it's fun to watch while it lasts lol.
@DuhLie No, they came from China. China is the ONLY country in the world that charges Falun Gong with subversion.
There are falun gong in Britain, America, Canada, but none of these governments feel threatened, despite the fact that they have a much smaller population.
Noone likes being tortured, but I don't think death scares Falun Gong like it scares CCP. Thats why they stay.
Why should their punishment be more severe? Why do you feel threatened by them?

When did I say I don't understand English? Otherwise how can I read what you have wrote and browse an international website. Are you that intelligent while you cannot figure this out?
From your response, I found you are not from China as you stated in your profile because you don't know what exactly I have wrote in zhongwen. No matter where you come from, I feel sorry for your trying to build hatred among different ethnic Chinese people. Please get lost.
Yea, but if you go over seas, you usually get education for free, and though it may be biased, it is not nearly as censored as in China, and therefore contributes greatly to REAL education...
who I am talking about are the factory workers, who have not even left their home province, and are completely clueless about the rest of the world...excellant "propaganda sponges"
There`s nothing to lie about China ,be truthful to yourself and admit the fact that most of countries on earth are revolving arround China now, to sustain their economic growth !one being a citizen of that country(China) who on hell will not be proud and satisfied to be a Chinese ?
What help can you offer to Chinese people ? your intention is to disrupt and discredit Chinese gov`t achievements and glory they had attained for their country and citizens !
You said China is in trouble, because there`s no Google serving China ? China doesn`t worry a bit `cause they have Baidu ,and Bing as an option ! Google doesn`t affect China a bit , in fact it affect google big time , they`re bleeding heavily in stock market !
If all you said was true about China ! what then are you complaining about ? let them alone do their internal matters, afterall you`re not a subject of China and doesn`t affect you ass..l ! why don`t you just mind your own gov`t business ?
Courageous move ! hahaha ! Google had just retracted from its treath to leave China and opted to follow China's censorship rules , what a lame duck like the US gov't , China won't blink first , remember that !
Asian countries and company had done this for a long long time and they thought they were smart until they were being caught... Asian employee also suffered from human rights and privacy not only on internet but also Handphones.....but never voiced out
Who hacked first? IP is just one of many ways for the real Internet. United States doesn't own digital transmission technology. Just documenting gods doesn't make any god owners. People honor innovations, not monopoly owners. Innovations get honor because they are shared, not owned. As to CIA's human rights group in China, Chinese would examine the cause of Opium Wars. CIA wants to use human rights to control other govts. Are human rights making CIA any better?
Google must stay in China and not run. If the US cannot solve problems like this using IP, then China will eventually rule them. The only thing the US has left to export is IP, and this is an example for the US to demonstrate they can create technologies that can allow US businesses to operate in hostile environments without compromise. This is an opportunity.
It wouldn't surprise me if it turns out Google and the US made all this up to demonize China for some gain, not that China needs any help to look bad.
Maybe they'll make up next that a Chinese hacker attacked the internet backbone as an excuse to make everyone accept internet2 or to pass the internet version of the PATRIOT Act, a bill by Sen. Jay Rockefeller that allows shutting down the internet
Jay Rockefeller: Internet should have never existed
Google's decision-making has NOTHING to do with foreign policy? Which planet u r from? on Jan 7th, Hillary Clinton invited Google CEO Eric Schmidt for dinner in D.C.. Other guests- Jack Dorsey, founder of Twiter Jason Lie, CEO of Howcast Jared Cohen, Clintons Policy Planning staff Andrew Rasiej, founder of Personal Democracy Forum James Eberhard, pioneer of mobile content Shervin Pishevar, founder of Social Gaming Network 12th Jan, Google started the `media war`
then why haven't they? because it's hard to leave when profits are springing in, despite being no match with baidu?
the reason why google, or any other foreign enterprise, wants to be in China is because they want to get a piece of the huge market there, obviously. with their economic growth, increasing purchasing power, and development of infrastructures in China, it still makes it a prime location to operate and invest in....(continued)
Sorry, but long term ventures are based around long term profit, not the rather nebulous concept of growth. Google spends a considerable amount of effort and capital specializing their products to conform with Chinese regulations. It makes absolute sense to cut losses now and focus on a more amenable market (e.g. India).
I appreciate the thumbs down by whomever, btw. It reaffirms my initial belief that most posting here have no particular experience in running a business or venture.
but you brought an interesting topic of Chinese nationalism. i guess it's true that in some ways, nationalism there is the reason why baidu is stronger, or why Chinese would start hating google or etc. it's also nationalistic for Chinese to think that they like it that their country wouldn't budge to foreign corporations (like google), or even other countries. to know that they'd be crawling back if they left. wouldn't anyone be happy to hear that if their country is like that?
As for nationalism, it's about as effective a shield one gets from "foreign intrusion." In the long term, of course, it leads to stagnation and weakness. Perhaps most importantly, the resulting restrictions lead to a consolidation of power that inevitably corrupt the governing entity and leads to a powerless populace.
but they should not stay. they should go to India, or wherever else they feel they're more welcomed to take advantage of. they could become a monopoly even, which woudn't be hard to do since local rivals there can't match them.
in China however, they'll continue to promote their own first, and probably expand elsewhere too when it's big enough.
Something else to consider -- assume a Chinese Empire envelops the world (which, in terms of economic power, is quite likely to happen). Would people even be allowed to have this sort of debate on nationalism? From my (albeit brief) time spent in Taiwan, probably not. While some would probably like the prospect of my voice being silenced, most reasonable people would argue that the ability to vocalize dissent is a necessity for civilization.
nationalism, or even facism, can be a very effective economic system too.
is google loosing money in China? not really. but of course, whether they sat or not, their business will, and i think has already been affected just because of this publicity. firms switching to Baidu, Microsoft Bing would go for a push. google lost what little chances they had remaining.
it's funny how you start talking about your voice (or the world's voice) is being silenced, i thought this wasn't about that lol.
Once you have a reasonably successful venture in the private sector, weekends are pretty free. :P
"is google loosing money in China? not really."
You're still missing the big picture. They're hemorrhaging that share of the market, and simultaneously the amount they invest in upkeep is NOT decreasing. Long term profits rely on far more than market growth. One thing we certainly can agree on -- Google's best move is to leave. It will be easiest for both the Chinese govt and the company.
those who have a successful venture in the private sector don't have weekends off ;)
the Chinese government doesn't care if google leaves. now the recent news is that google denies that they said they're leaving (i guess technically, they just wanted to test the hard stance of the Chinese government, and now they know lol).
google might as well keep playing the moral card in hopes they can gain some positve feedback outside of China. then again, it's hard to find as good a market as China is.
"those who have a successful venture in the private sector don't have weekends off ;)"
Right...because executives are never criticized for taking extravagant vacations... it has become evident that I gave you more credit than was initially deserved.
As for finding markets as good as China is, you've simply reaffirmed my point. Anyone who has paid the least bit of attention to Google knows long term profit is trump, so why would their interests in maintaining the Chinese venture even waver?
It pretty much confirms exactly what I just said -- Google is in it for the profit, and nothing else. How exactly does that contrast with my claims that politics had nothing to do with this fiasco? It's pretty obvious that if they did, Google would already be gone.
I still believe it would be ideal for Google to abandon its venture in China. If you're losing ground quarterly to a significantly inferior product, it's time to reassess your role in the market.
politics is in play here, no doubt. it' one of the real reasons why google did this gig. it refurbishes their international image, as hypocritical it already is. because that's they're contingency plan if they fail in China, which they did.
and the reason why they haven't left China yet is? lol, they got 30% of the market there. although it doesn't look much, but it's already pretty good, considering foreign internet enterprises do not succeed there. there's just too huge of a potential there.
I'm still a bit amused at the fact that you are using youtube, btw. Given the venom you have openly displayed here and elsewhere for Google, one would think you would seek a medium they didn't own...
well, not only google can play the double-edged sword ;)
"fuck google! i'll make a video of why baidu is better than google, and then i'll upload it on youtube. boycott google!"
i can easily say and do the above, which i basically already am doing (hopefully, they wouldn't suspend me or remove my vids, which do happen in this "free-speech" site).
i love using free speech against those who pretend to defend it. it's so unfair, right?
but hey, it's not like my motto is "don't be evil" lol!
Certainly Baidu is superior from the standpoint of organizing all aspects of your life for you (some of which are handled quite well). I'm quite certain before long it will help remind the user when he or she is permitted to visit the restroom. TBH though, I'm not certain how anyone who has used Baidu and Google can argue the former is better for the express purpose of an all-purpose search engine.
That would fly with me, except that I've had the (mis)fortune of employing Baidu's search capabilities for research, and found them woefully lacking. It's possible that they've improved drastically in two years, but I rather doubt it.
I'm not certain how one arrives to the conclusion that quality and saleability are correlated, btw. Google is getting crushed by Yahoo in Japan, and I think it's fair to say the latter is pretty much bottom of the barrel.
TBH, most of my investments would benefit from a redistribution of Google's resources in Asia. Hence the China-Google relationship is rather relevant to my interests. This is probably why you may have noticed that I am not particularly at odds with your efforts in promoting the use of Baidu over Google in China. If political propaganda is the means of pushing them out, so be it.
lol, first you say politics has nothing to do with this.
now you say there may at least be the means of it? finally :)
well, does that mean it's bad news for you that google hasn't left yet?? they can redistribute across Asia if they want, but profiteers always want a piece of the largest market.
Wait, what? The only politicking on here has been on my own behalf, not Google's. The initial argument was that made by Google's critics was that Google's complaints about China were purely political -- when in fact they are entirely related to its inability to compete in the market. People who believe Google is driven by politics and not profits are kidding themselves.
you still don't get it mrtouchshriek. being political is profitable.
i believe you should know that first hand, since you said you've involved politics on a personal level, and conveniently (and relatedly) at the same time, your "small business" would profit greatly if they ventured across wherever....
Just a reminder to some: Google's decision-making has NOTHING to do with foreign policy -- its execs have simply grown tired of bending over backwards to fail in competition with an inferior product. It makes perfect sense to focus on a market seeing comparable growth and more amenable populace, such as India. If anything, Google's leaving will emphasize the severity of Chinese nationalism.
Google will come out as a loser in this dispute for many reasons. Since the announcement of the pull out, google has severely damage it's reputation as a trusted global service provider by allowing itself to become a political weapon against US adversaries.
People around the world like myself will re-evaluate Google's position in a political point of view. Google's move to align itself with US foreign policies will soon back fire, not just from internet users in China but around the world.
The internet will always be subject to national scrutiny. Closing Google in China achieves nothing - coming to a mutual understanding is a win - win situation - a great advert for Google in it's competition with Baidu and for Chinese - western business relations.
I'll root for Google when it stops the political correctness and the censorship, and boldly stands up to the CPC. If Google does this, the internet shall free the Chinese people from their inefficient, less-honour-than-pigs government.
they can criticize China's hacking team, while the National Security Agency of the USA holds the world's biggest cyberwarriors who are either secretly or openly (patriot act) spies/taps on people's emails, telephone, etc etc..
Its a nationalist conspiracy on part of chinese.......to throw out an American search engine and let its own "Baidu" capture all the market.......China wants to sell everything to you but doesn't want to buy anything from you......
70% or so of India's people are farmers. It's one of the few countries if not the only country where more people live outside the big cities. 30% anywhere is still a lot though.
Certainly for the intended purpose (general search engine), Google is better, even within the bounds of the allotted censorship. But nationalism (this isn't unique to China, of course) has insured a Chinese product of inferior quality is preferred. Google should chalk up its venture in China as a failure and move on.
The same may happen to Microsoft relatively soon (though some would probably argue it legitimately DOES market inferior products).
Google really shouldn't bother trying to compete in China anyway -- the Chinese have and will always prefer Chinese products to those of another country, even at the expense of quality. Google will have to settle with being the premier search engine elsewhere.
google bought youtube to gain more shares. plus it strengthens their grip to dominate the internet market since youtube is the most popular video website.
If you want to do business in China, follow the Chinese rules, we don't care whether you come from the superpower or not, US can rule the world but they can't rule China. Microsoft is smarter than google, dont just find the human rights excuse for your fail and google if you donot like that just quit, really noboby care!
Google = unstable, unsecured, privacy-violating, unprofessionally whining about cyber attacks, putting on a stupid human rights show to gain attentions and more market shares.
In a word, Google = lame.
Get out of china, no business in China relies on your lame services.
Haha, what a joke....such a lame story...."Pull out because of human rights issues" For christ sake...Nobody with half a brain would buy that...Tell us the real reason...
Ummm..something a bit deeper....Dumbasses here think again...Google has been spying on everyone for the CIA and China knows Google is spying in CHina.....So what do the Chinese do about this?
hi all can somebody tell me, what has gmail hacking got anything to do with content filtering? even if Google pulled out the hacking will continue, have I missed something here?
Yeah but imagine getting thirty percent of all of your money being stolen because you pissed someone off. 30% of £1 isn't much, but 30% of £1000000000000000 is alot.
huh???? u have no idea wtf u are talking about. u are very confused. if google pulls out, it will be THEIR loss. not china. google has 30% of china's search engine market share, if they pull out, they will be losing revenue. and china's home grown search engine company, Baidu, will have the monopoly power on the market share and and revenue. it will be a long term strategic loss for google
S'pose. But Google is pretty big in china (Not as big as Baidu but still big) If google pulls out then alot of Chinese people will be pissed with the government. Won't do anything though. China will just send in tanks to crush the protesters.
*sigh* thats why i dont understand u ppl. u think google is so valueble to chinese (its just a fuckin search engine for christ sake) that they gonna start a riot against the government and risk their life for it lol. even if google pulls out from where i live im not gonna be pissed about it. il just use a different search engine instead
It's not necisarily about google. It's the fundamental concept of something being taken away from the people because the government. What you have to remember is that the chinese government has been very mean to it's people and taken away civil liberties because those liberties disagree with the Government etc. They won't be pissed because google is gone. They'd be pissed because it's one more liberty being taken away from the people regardless of what it is. It' the concept of the whole thing.
dont blame the government. if u do business in china, then u must go by the law. google shouldve known this four years ago. this is obviously a PR move
i'm with ya hcn9. go BAIDU!! now we can fully promote BAIDU, and retrieve our 30% share back to where it belongs. maybe they can hire the recently unemployed former google staff too, ya know, to show us the ropes hahaa.
but i wonder if yahoo is going to try to take advantage of this? if google shuts down in China, good. i hope they'll never be allowed to return :) they probably wouldn't want to anyway, right? u know how multi-billion enterprises care about human rights first hahaha.
you don't think google should be in China in the first place?.....BUT THEY ARE! after making good money there, they come up with this stunt. but again, they still haven't decided to immediately pack up and leave. hmm, why? is it because google have soooo much morals!
btw, China even has the sacks to hack the Pentagon. hacking google is what Chinese hackers do during their break...UNLESS they get hungry, then they'll get something to eat instead.
I don't think that Google should be in China because China is telling Google to censore some of it's searchresults which defeats the whole concept of a search engine. Also, I said No to your comment on me reffering to the lives of Dalits. Finally, If China are really stupid if they have hacked the pentagon. That is the recipie for war.
you do know that when google decided to operate in China, they agreed to abide by the laws. i hope you're not naive enough to believe that they didn't know what was coming at them (hacking) once they were there.
but i agree, google shouldn't be there. in fact, i hope China would be the one to tell them their services are no longer allowed. it's not needed in the first place.
i knew where your "no" reply was intended. and then i sarcastically said "ohhh".
mashable . com /2007/09/03/pentagon-cyber-attack/
-lol, yup, they did hack the pentagon. i don't see a war breaking out, do you? maybe the US aren't really that stupid to wage a war over someone hacking them. they even got hacked by gary mckinnon, the guy "searching for ufo files" lol. the US has cyber warriors too, so it's only fair.
"recipe for war" lol. this ain't no damn tom clancy novel.
I do know that Google decided to opperate by China's laws, but they weren't happy about it. The reason that Google got annoyed was because China hacked Gmail accounts of Human rights activists which was very bad in Googles mind, so they said "No! we will not stand for this, we will pull out of China and uhh... loose (cough) alot of money".
then WHY BE THERE in the first place? oh yeah wait, money and profit. they weren't happy until they made mad money lol.
and the reason (or one of the reasons) why google got annoyed is because no matter how much they try, they can't beat Baidu lol. 29-30% of the Chinese market may not seem big at first, but it's servicing over 300 million people already, which is like the population of the US. it's really a big loss for google if they leave. but they gotta have "business ethics", right? XD
maybe, maybe not. google is within an industry that can't help but at least think about tapping the potential of the largest internet market in the world (China), even though they fully know they will be the underdog there (a similar thing happened with Yahoo and eBay there).
a hard decision probably for foreign corporations. local Chinese enterprises have a stronghold in that industry, but the large market is too good to ignore.
if that's the case, they should have never entered in China, because they already knew in advance that once you're in China ("selling their souls"), they already knew what was coming at them.
lol, even if they weren't in China, they could still be hacked. remember my Pentagon example? ;)
The Chinese would do better re-creating a Confucian economy, but it's too late. They adopted the American Republican "I got mine, f77k you" attitude: They are POISONING their own and our consumers just to see how far they can go before they get caught at it. Just like a Karl Rove Roger Ailes No Regulation free market Wall Street scumbag.
You don't want "nanny state" regulations? China is what you'll end up with.
Don't do business with chinese, look at the south asia, chink just ruin south asia economy. chinks are worst than jews when it comes down to business.
I thought Jews were supposed to be good at buisiness. Alan Sugar started off from scratch selling bits and bobs from the back of a truck. Now he has got his own show and owns a massive buisiness empire. He was also given a knighthood for his contributionsto the Uk economy.
Oh you are a girl, so I would say you are a lesbian then :)

That would be a valid conspiracy theory...except that Google was talking about abandoning its venture in China as far back as October (at least).
MrTouchShriek 2 years ago
then why haven't they? because it's hard to leave when profits are springing in, despite being no match with baidu?
the reason why google, or any other foreign enterprise, wants to be in China is because they want to get a piece of the huge market there, obviously. with their economic growth, increasing purchasing power, and development of infrastructures in China, it still makes it a prime location to operate and invest in....(continued)
DuhLie 2 years ago
Sorry, but long term ventures are based around long term profit, not the rather nebulous concept of growth. Google spends a considerable amount of effort and capital specializing their products to conform with Chinese regulations. It makes absolute sense to cut losses now and focus on a more amenable market (e.g. India).
I appreciate the thumbs down by whomever, btw. It reaffirms my initial belief that most posting here have no particular experience in running a business or venture.
MrTouchShriek 2 years ago
(continuation)
but you brought an interesting topic of Chinese nationalism. i guess it's true that in some ways, nationalism there is the reason why baidu is stronger, or why Chinese would start hating google or etc. it's also nationalistic for Chinese to think that they like it that their country wouldn't budge to foreign corporations (like google), or even other countries. to know that they'd be crawling back if they left. wouldn't anyone be happy to hear that if their country is like that?
DuhLie 2 years ago
As for nationalism, it's about as effective a shield one gets from "foreign intrusion." In the long term, of course, it leads to stagnation and weakness. Perhaps most importantly, the resulting restrictions lead to a consolidation of power that inevitably corrupt the governing entity and leads to a powerless populace.
MrTouchShriek 2 years ago
i meant "whether they stay or not".
but they should not stay. they should go to India, or wherever else they feel they're more welcomed to take advantage of. they could become a monopoly even, which woudn't be hard to do since local rivals there can't match them.
in China however, they'll continue to promote their own first, and probably expand elsewhere too when it's big enough.
DuhLie 2 years ago
btw, i didn't thumbs down your post, if that's what you're thinking.
however, REAL people who have experience running a business or a venture wouldn't have time to log on to youtube lol
;))
DuhLie 2 years ago
Something else to consider -- assume a Chinese Empire envelops the world (which, in terms of economic power, is quite likely to happen). Would people even be allowed to have this sort of debate on nationalism? From my (albeit brief) time spent in Taiwan, probably not. While some would probably like the prospect of my voice being silenced, most reasonable people would argue that the ability to vocalize dissent is a necessity for civilization.
MrTouchShriek 2 years ago
nationalism, or even facism, can be a very effective economic system too.
is google loosing money in China? not really. but of course, whether they sat or not, their business will, and i think has already been affected just because of this publicity. firms switching to Baidu, Microsoft Bing would go for a push. google lost what little chances they had remaining.
it's funny how you start talking about your voice (or the world's voice) is being silenced, i thought this wasn't about that lol.
DuhLie 2 years ago
Once you have a reasonably successful venture in the private sector, weekends are pretty free. :P
"is google loosing money in China? not really."
You're still missing the big picture. They're hemorrhaging that share of the market, and simultaneously the amount they invest in upkeep is NOT decreasing. Long term profits rely on far more than market growth. One thing we certainly can agree on -- Google's best move is to leave. It will be easiest for both the Chinese govt and the company.
MrTouchShriek 2 years ago
those who have a successful venture in the private sector don't have weekends off ;)
the Chinese government doesn't care if google leaves. now the recent news is that google denies that they said they're leaving (i guess technically, they just wanted to test the hard stance of the Chinese government, and now they know lol).
google might as well keep playing the moral card in hopes they can gain some positve feedback outside of China. then again, it's hard to find as good a market as China is.
DuhLie 2 years ago
"those who have a successful venture in the private sector don't have weekends off ;)"
Right...because executives are never criticized for taking extravagant vacations... it has become evident that I gave you more credit than was initially deserved.
As for finding markets as good as China is, you've simply reaffirmed my point. Anyone who has paid the least bit of attention to Google knows long term profit is trump, so why would their interests in maintaining the Chinese venture even waver?
MrTouchShriek 2 years ago
they haven't left yet. what does that tell you?
everyone's already waiting.
DuhLie 2 years ago
It pretty much confirms exactly what I just said -- Google is in it for the profit, and nothing else. How exactly does that contrast with my claims that politics had nothing to do with this fiasco? It's pretty obvious that if they did, Google would already be gone.
I still believe it would be ideal for Google to abandon its venture in China. If you're losing ground quarterly to a significantly inferior product, it's time to reassess your role in the market.
MrTouchShriek 2 years ago
politics is in play here, no doubt. it' one of the real reasons why google did this gig. it refurbishes their international image, as hypocritical it already is. because that's they're contingency plan if they fail in China, which they did.
and the reason why they haven't left China yet is? lol, they got 30% of the market there. although it doesn't look much, but it's already pretty good, considering foreign internet enterprises do not succeed there. there's just too huge of a potential there.
DuhLie 2 years ago
I'm still a bit amused at the fact that you are using youtube, btw. Given the venom you have openly displayed here and elsewhere for Google, one would think you would seek a medium they didn't own...
MrTouchShriek 2 years ago
well, not only google can play the double-edged sword ;)
"fuck google! i'll make a video of why baidu is better than google, and then i'll upload it on youtube. boycott google!"
i can easily say and do the above, which i basically already am doing (hopefully, they wouldn't suspend me or remove my vids, which do happen in this "free-speech" site).
i love using free speech against those who pretend to defend it. it's so unfair, right?
but hey, it's not like my motto is "don't be evil" lol!
DuhLie 2 years ago
Certainly Baidu is superior from the standpoint of organizing all aspects of your life for you (some of which are handled quite well). I'm quite certain before long it will help remind the user when he or she is permitted to visit the restroom. TBH though, I'm not certain how anyone who has used Baidu and Google can argue the former is better for the express purpose of an all-purpose search engine.
MrTouchShriek 2 years ago
..google may or may not have a "superior" product. but in China, they're not selling well. google is only good for watching porn ;)
but you never know. maybe China's gonna release a phone that's similar, but maybe even slightly better and cheaper than the Nexus One. lol
DuhLie 2 years ago
That would fly with me, except that I've had the (mis)fortune of employing Baidu's search capabilities for research, and found them woefully lacking. It's possible that they've improved drastically in two years, but I rather doubt it.
I'm not certain how one arrives to the conclusion that quality and saleability are correlated, btw. Google is getting crushed by Yahoo in Japan, and I think it's fair to say the latter is pretty much bottom of the barrel.
MrTouchShriek 2 years ago
and damn, you MUST be a super executive in this small business of yours, seeing that you're having an extended vacation on weekdays.....
DuhLie 2 years ago
TBH, most of my investments would benefit from a redistribution of Google's resources in Asia. Hence the China-Google relationship is rather relevant to my interests. This is probably why you may have noticed that I am not particularly at odds with your efforts in promoting the use of Baidu over Google in China. If political propaganda is the means of pushing them out, so be it.
MrTouchShriek 2 years ago
lol, first you say politics has nothing to do with this.
now you say there may at least be the means of it? finally :)
well, does that mean it's bad news for you that google hasn't left yet?? they can redistribute across Asia if they want, but profiteers always want a piece of the largest market.
DuhLie 2 years ago
Wait, what? The only politicking on here has been on my own behalf, not Google's. The initial argument was that made by Google's critics was that Google's complaints about China were purely political -- when in fact they are entirely related to its inability to compete in the market. People who believe Google is driven by politics and not profits are kidding themselves.
MrTouchShriek 2 years ago
you still don't get it mrtouchshriek. being political is profitable.
i believe you should know that first hand, since you said you've involved politics on a personal level, and conveniently (and relatedly) at the same time, your "small business" would profit greatly if they ventured across wherever....
so, has google left yet or was that all a bluff?
DuhLie 2 years ago
Just a reminder to some: Google's decision-making has NOTHING to do with foreign policy -- its execs have simply grown tired of bending over backwards to fail in competition with an inferior product. It makes perfect sense to focus on a market seeing comparable growth and more amenable populace, such as India. If anything, Google's leaving will emphasize the severity of Chinese nationalism.
MrTouchShriek 2 years ago

Google will come out as a loser in this dispute for many reasons. Since the announcement of the pull out, google has severely damage it's reputation as a trusted global service provider by allowing itself to become a political weapon against US adversaries.
People around the world like myself will re-evaluate Google's position in a political point of view. Google's move to align itself with US foreign policies will soon back fire, not just from internet users in China but around the world.

Certainly for the intended purpose (general search engine), Google is better, even within the bounds of the allotted censorship. But nationalism (this isn't unique to China, of course) has insured a Chinese product of inferior quality is preferred. Google should chalk up its venture in China as a failure and move on.
The same may happen to Microsoft relatively soon (though some would probably argue it legitimately DOES market inferior products).

huh???? u have no idea wtf u are talking about. u are very confused. if google pulls out, it will be THEIR loss. not china. google has 30% of china's search engine market share, if they pull out, they will be losing revenue. and china's home grown search engine company, Baidu, will have the monopoly power on the market share and and revenue. it will be a long term strategic loss for google

It' the concept of the whole thing.

btw, China even has the sacks to hack the Pentagon. hacking google is what Chinese hackers do during their break...UNLESS they get hungry, then they'll get something to eat instead.

I don't think that Google should be in China because China is telling Google to censore some of it's searchresults which defeats the whole concept of a search engine. and the reason (or one of the reasons) why google got annoyed is because no matter how much they try, they can't beat Baidu lol. 29-30% of the Chinese market may not seem big at first, but it's servicing over 300 million people already, which is like the population of the US. it's really a big loss for google if they leave. but they gotta have "business ethics", right? XD

Basically. Google is retarded for going to china in the first place.
Rejy14 2 years ago
maybe, maybe not. google is within an industry that can't help but at least think about tapping the potential of the largest internet market in the world (China), even though they fully know they will be the underdog there (a similar thing happened with Yahoo and eBay there).
a hard decision probably for foreign corporations. local Chinese enterprises have a stronghold in that industry, but the large market is too good to ignore.

s'pose. Anyway, what are we even debating. I mean we basically agree with what we are both saying.

except, you like google for playing, or should i say, trying to play politics.

No, I think google should have pulled out the second China told them to compromise their service to the user. Buisiness ethics aside.

if that's the case, they should have never entered in China, because they already knew in advance that once you're in China ("selling their souls"), they already knew what was coming at them.
lol, even if they weren't in China, they could still be hacked. remember my Pentagon example?

I thought Jews were supposed to be good at buisiness. Alan Sugar started off from scratch selling bits and bobs from the back of a truck. Now he has got his own show and owns a massive buisiness empire. He was also given a knighthood for his contributionsto the Uk economy.

I believe it is the right thing for google to stand with human right instead of being forced to censor the search result.
