For some reason, this video makes me happy. I have only been to disney world once, when I was six. I am now 17. So, this just makes me happy, and motivates me to go to disney world every single year when I grow older! I want to be like "Oh yeah, I've been on that ride before it closed down." I HATE being like "maaan, I wish I went on it!" :p But what a great video! :)
I miss alien encounter. it was one of my best memories from that trip to Disney world. Now and days i'm sad knowing that it has been replaced by a a lilo and stitch based attraction
@monstersquishy I remember the lines for Alien Encounter were always super long...now for the new stitch attraction there is rarely a line...I think that says it all!
When I was little tiny, I would have loved that Doug show. Doug was one of the first Nickelodeon cartoons I ever liked. :') (Hey, the Discovery Riverboats aren't extinct. I rode one last year. Oh, wait. If they were in the Animal Kingdom, I didn't. But theres another boat ride in the Magic Kingdom thats just like it, I think.)
OK AE closed down cuz it was scaring the heck out of kids. The moms\dads could've read the sign THIS ATTRACTION MAY BE SCARY 4 KIDS 12 OR YOUNGER! but noo the took their kids anyway and the kids were screaming. ALOT. So the next time u take ypou kids 2 Disneyworld please don't take them 2 attractions like this one. That's a lesson 2 all u parents out there.
I was lucky and managed to ride some of these back in January of 1996. I loved the original Journey into Imagination, especially the garden where all the trees and flowers were white and Figment was painting them. It was gorgeous!
I've never been on the original one... Had it remained the same, I probably would have been too scared to do it. I only trusted it because I saw Robin Williams' face when I was little. I saw his face and thought "THATS ANDREW FROM BICENTENNIAL MAN! I LOVE ANDREW.". lol But being the age I am now, I probably would have liked the original, too. :) I especially love Figment. I love dragons the best. :)
WAIT JUST A MINUTE... "World Of Tomorrow" is GONE?! ... Oh my God, how come I didn't notice this!!! I saw "World Of Tomorrow" when I was 9 and now that I think about it, I hadn't seen it since! :( Did Monsters Inc. replace it or something??? I love that movie, but the interactive show they built wasn't as fun as "The World Of Tomorrow"!
2:24 Captian EO is STILL there AND operating. I know because we saw it last year when we went last with my boyfriend. I remember because that was the first year I started to really kind of like some of Michael's music and my boyfriend kept teasing me the entire time.
3:04 OMG DISNEY MADE A SHORT ABOUT REPRODUCTION?! I had no idea! I dunno why, but it makes me laugh! :'D I guess cuz I consider it to be more of an "adult" thing and I'm not used to Disney being so... Well, you get it. ROFL
7:16 I MISS that show!!! I only got to see it once when I was nine years old and I LOVE Tarzan. I always have and probably always will. I remember the show being AMAZING when I saw it and when I realized I'd never get to go there to see it again, I cried. I really cried.
Missed a few attractions including the Plaza Swan Boats and Festival of the Lion King at Magic Kingdom. But, it was cool to see some pictures of the retired attractions! :)
Man, I so miss Horizons. I loved the cheesy animatronic dioramas, choosing your own adventure, etc. There's way too much emphasis on turning everything into a promotion for a Disney franchise at WDW these days, but oh well, it's business.
Captain EO is awesome! I saw it last year at Epcot! They put it where "Honey I Shrunk the Audience" was, which was probably where Captain EO was originally
The first is a time machine to bring us back to those happy memories we shared riding these rides
The second is to just bring back all the classic rides and replace the current ones
Or...
Create a 5th park in Disney World (maybe calling it Yesterland) a park with all your favorite old classic rides in one park I dont mind I would take any three :)
alot of the rides they got rid of expecally at EPCOT were because the technology they had used to make it see new and futuristic became lame and old over time. so they updated a lot of the rides and shows with newer technology.
bring back the old epcot! epcot used to be based on walt's original ideas, and now it seems like none of the original things are even there. i love seeing attractions that are based on the old school style of what the future is going to look like. the carousel of progress' last scene is a good example of that, but the old epcot was centered around that idea!
@gt4611 Its official title is "Papillon (On The Wings Of A Butterfly)". I know this because my Language Arts teacher in junior high had a CD that featured the song, and played that CD sometimes in class, that's where I recognize the song.
Because Innoventions nowadays really sucks. Three-quarters of Innovations East is a gift shop (Mouse Gears) and restaurant (Electric Umbrella), while half of Innovations West is an ice cream shop, a Coca-Cola stand, and character meet-and-greets.
@Rollman1 He was "phased out"...I dunno where he is now. But they are missing out, I think. Though my kid (on two visits) loves the current show, it's nothing compared to what it was.
I love Journey Into Imagination! :D I've never been on the "original" one, though. I was born in 1992 and didn't get to go for my first time till I was 9 years old. So, I've only been on the Robin Williams one. But I grew up liking him a lot as an actor and voice actor, so I was really happy to see a familiar face on the screen. lol
You know, these rides were great and spectacular. But tney had to close them for a reason! You all say that Alien Encounter should be brought back. But you never know, it could of broken down so many times that Disney said, "Lets shut it down!" and replace it with a more current ride.
@GreekFood08 No, it closed because parents complained their kids were too scared of it. Alien Encounter was designed to be scary and for teens and adults. A sign outside the entrance warned parents not to bring anyone 12 or younger. But they ignored them and brought kids as young as 5 on it. They comlained to Disney (when the kids weren't even supposed to be on the ride) and Disney got sick of all the complaints and closed it down. AE hardly ever broke down.
Most rides are replaced, abandoned,or recycled now I WILL GET EVERYONE WHO IF FREAKING PISSED AT DISNEY FOR REMOVING THERE CHILDHOOD AND START A RIOT UNTILL THEY BRING BACK THE OLDIES THUMBS UP IF U WANT YOUR CHILDHOOD BACK!
@themeddleman Yes. It was a show called 'The Making of Me'. It was created to educate kids about sex. A sign outside gave a brief explanation to parents. In case the parents missed the sign the show tried to leave out the big details of sex. There's a video split into 2 parts here on YouTube.
@themeddleman HAHAHA, that's so great? I WONDER why it was taken down? "Hey honey, lets go to disney world and make it REALLY awkward for you. That'll be fun, right?"
I wish i got to ride alien encounter they took it out when i was in 2nd grade. my friend kept telling me how awsome it was. i wnet to disney the following year and it was stich, i rode that once and never again cause it wasnt that good.
@janicebicksss Your wrong. It was awesome! It was for thrill seekers. If your not a thrill seeker, don't judge what it was like, because the attraction wasn't meant for you.
@Benstudio13 I totally agree! It scared the crap outta me when I was young, but that's what made it fun there's so little thrill rides in the Magic Kingdom it's perfect for the bigger kids and adults!
@kittykatmeow224 I was back there a week ago, and I can say, yes, some of it is used a ambiant music. Though the Oddysey (the restaurant) is still closed.
I really hated to see the Doug Live show close down.I watched the cartoon all the time and the show was great. But the foloowing year when we went back it was closed. But even before that,I remember the live show was the audience was picked to play in some mock up scenes from classic tv shows like I Love Lucy.I don't remember the name of that attraction before Doug Live. It's really so sad, when theseimagineers think change is what we the public want, when usually we don't.Well maybe a little.
Small mistake at 20K Under The Sea. The poster is from Disneyland. Disneyland once had a walkthrough where you could look at the sets and props from the movie in Tomorrowland. WDW's was in Fantasyland and a themed version of DL's Submarine Voyage. You can see in the poster that it says Tomorrowland and the actual poster looked like DL's with a few changes to the Submarine, coloring, and name of the land it was in.
@skullbasher115 Yes, I love that they brought ack Captain EO! And I agree the new and 2 version of Journey Into Imagination suck(ed). I wish they would bring back the original version with DreamFinder.
@AdrenalineAddict610 i dont like that they changed Alien Encounter for Stitch's Great Escape dont get me wrong Stitch is one of my fav disney characters but it gives me shoulder pains when Alien Encounter just entertained me and the first kinda scared me but i loved it when i heard they were changing it i was like NOOOOO WHYYYYYYY !?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
I was recently back at Epcot a few months back and all I could do was think back to all the old rides they had. I must have ridden Horizons a million times when I was growing up...
...I still remember always fighting it out to see what method of travel we would take to "return home".
-Cranium Command was so much fun. The Intro cartoon and the In the Head Theater. Body Wars was pretty cool.
-The Original Journey was so much better than the current one!
-But MAN was Horizons my absolute favorite in all of Walt Disney World. So nice, cool, fun, neat, spiffy, snazzy, and long. Wonderful detail, great music, astonishing sites, the Omnimax theaters, the mini flight simulators at the end. I could ride that for hours. And did!
I remember all those old Epcot attractions even after 20+ years. When I was a kid in the 80s, my family and I went to Orlando three times, once around 1984 (given the size of the t-shirt I still have), the second time sometime later in the 80s, and the last time in 1990 (last family vaction before my parents divorced). Too bad they removed all those classic attractions. I've been wanting to go to Orlando again, but it sucks I wouldn't get to experience those attractions again.
@Patkillskenny ... tghey cant, it wasnt fun for the family as the disney motto. plus it was too costly for them to keep running without any guests going to see it because of the scare factor
@WDWtony true, but it doesnt show that disney isnt ballanced, it was for the adults, they even warned them too. Now ever since they took that out, disney is all towards the kids, not the adults.
I LOOOOOOOOOOVED 'WONDERS OF LIFE'!!!! I MISS IT SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH!!! THEY NEED TO RE-OPEN IT AND LEAVE IT THE WAY IT WAS!!!! Now all they use it for is for Flower and Garden Festival.... I also miss 'Skyway'!!!! I went on that once and it was sooo much fun! I know they closed it because of 9/11 (or so i've heard) but they need to re-open it!! I miss "Doug: LIVE" because it was awesome and my mom was in it once! I miss "WWTBAM:PLAY IT"!!!jeez they got rid of a lot of awesome rides/shows!!!
@afifanatic14 skyway actually closed because of disability acts taht came into play this day in age...It wasnt able to be stopped and accomidate the people in wheele chairs
@WDWtony Attractions were never forced to close because of being unable to take disabled guests; if they were built prior to the AD Act they were grandfathered in.
@homedogsham23 Actually, most people remembered "The Making of Me" to be somewhat child-friendly...just worked with internal anatomy, not the XXX stuff.
Dude I have a video of when I was 3 on my 2nd trip to Disney. In the video I'm standing outside the Doug ride (cause I was about to get in the line) and I was watching the parade that had Mulan in it. I loved both the ride and the show. Miss it everyday.
Dude I have a video from when I was 3 where I was standing outside the Doug ride watching the parade that had Mulan in it. I think it was my second trip to Disney. I loved both the show and the ride.
I saw it too. I was in line for the Honey I Shrunk the audience and the journey into imagination broke down. So they continued it in the Honey I shrunk the audience and I sneaked in with the crowd and when it was over I stayed hidden so I could be the first to get into the Honey I Shrunk the Audience.
@32David2 yeah, but I think they said it won't stay opened for good!! it will only be opened for a limited time and then soon, they'll be bringing back honey i shrunk the audience!!!!
Captain EO will reopen in WDW this July (2010) I am sooooo excited! Thank you for posting these..... I can almost smell the oranges in Horizons .... brought tears to my eyes <3
I really miss Journey into Imagination, with Dreamfinder and Figment. The new one just isn't as engaging. The Timekeeper was always fun to sit in when it was too hot out. I miss DreamFlight too; that was my favorite ride as a little kid. I think I rode Mission to Mars in 1992 with my grandmother when I was...oh jeez...about four. I miss a lot of these rides; it's a shame they had to be let go.
They have captain EO again

skullbasher115 1 year ago
@skullbasher115 Yes, I love that they brought ack Captain EO! And I agree the new and 2 version of Journey Into Imagination suck(ed). I wish they would bring back the original version with DreamFinder.

@Benstudio13 Funnily enough, Walt Disney World made the same mistake with their 40th anniversary merchandise

Does anyone know the name of the song that is first played in the video? I know I've heard it in Epcot before. Great video
angel0fmusic84 1 year ago
@angel0fmusic84 It's played in Innoventions.

Alien Encounter...best attraction that was exclusive to WDW. Too bad it's Stitch now. It's too tame for teens/adults, yet still too scary for kids.
AdrenalineAddict610 1 year ago 13

Stroper 1 year ago
Great job! Ah me, I loved those attractions.
And did!
TheRadical42 1 year ago
I remember all those old Epcot attractions even after 20+ years. When I was a kid in the 80s, my family and I went to Orlando three times, once around 1984 (given the size of the t-shirt I still have), the second time sometime later in the 80s, and the last time in 1990 (last family vaction before my parents divorced). Too bad they removed all those classic attractions. I've been wanting to go to Orlando again, but it sucks I wouldn't get to experience those attractions again.

@Patkillskenny I second that!!
ShubbaBANG 1 year ago
@Patkillskenny ... tghey cant, it wasnt fun for the family as the disney motto. plus it was too costly for them to keep running without any guests going to see it because of the scare factor
WDWtony 1 year ago
@WDWtony true, but it doesnt show that disney isnt ballanced, it was for the adults, they even warned them too. Now ever since they took that out, disney is all towards the kids, not the adults.

WDWtony 1 year ago
@WDWtony Attractions were never forced to close because of being unable to take disabled guests; if they were built prior to the AD Act they were grandfathered in.

Dude I have a video of when I was 3 on my 2nd trip to Disney. In the video I'm standing outside the Doug ride (cause I was about to get in the line) and I was watching the parade that had Mulan in it. I loved both the ride and the show. Miss it everyday.
