Stumbled upon this and I'm going to help with transcribing! ^^ζ
@oOoKhaledoOo Lol no, s/he means about texting(comments), not the video. Some greeks write greek on the internet with the latin alphabet instead of actual greek alphabet, because they avoid the grammatical errors that way:P
Wow! These videos really help me to learn Greek! GREAT!! :) I love their accent, anyway I love ALL native speakers speaking Greek:D The language is simply sooo.....DIVINE!
By the way, can anybody tell me, what does it mean "4" in Greek? In the transcription from alphabeth to latin, what is the sign? I know for example when somebody writes "8elw" - it means "thelo", so the "8" is the letter "theta", "th". So what for "4"?:D Could anybody help me? Please! Parakalw! :-)
@NikkiLoveEspana where did you see that? It can't be anything, maybe it's wrong or someone wanted to write something in english like "4ever:. Yes, sometimes we write greek with latin letters on the internet for convenience but "formally" this is wrong. We call that "greeklish". As far as the numbers are concerned, I only know 8 = th = θ (as you mentioned) or 3 = ξ = (latin x). Also we use "w" for ω as in "θέλω"
I don't remember, my friend wrote it somewhere:D but I asked my Greek teacher yesterday and he said that the "4" would be maybe "φ". I also saw somewhere latin letter "h" for Greek "η", e.g. "επίσης" like epishs or epishc. I really like it, i find the language more interesting:))
@Steinerx1x Ach ehrlich denke ich dass die Beiden nur aufm Video dann auseinander gehen, mir gefällt dran zu denken dass die dann hinter den Kulissen wieder zueinander finden ..denn die scheinen echt gut zusammen zu passen und naja, vllt am Ende des Griechisch-kurses stellt sich sogar heraus, dass die heiraten oder so was von ähnlich..fänd ich nämlich niedlich :))

This is a great learning video, but the Greeks are never so calm or controlled with their speech. Their speech delivery is usually very hurried, frantic and a tad bit crude. That's what makes Greek language truly so difficult to learn.
@AmericanPatriot333 your comment gives the impression that America in no financial trouble of it's own . My comment was a statement about Greece's physical beauty, not it's economy. You make Americans sound ignorant.
@zorrobarns Greece will come out of this situation. The deficit already sunk 45% lower than last year, and ,at last, the first positive comments from foreign economic newspapers have made their appearence...Of course, greek people, the vast majority of which is not to blame for this situation had to pay for this... :(
@Raperboy228 That is the formal way of saying "how are you". its Ti kanis: if you know them and Ti kanete; if they are new or business partners. Just a difference between how formal or causal you would like to be. =)
except some cases. The alphabet also is not as strange to foreigners, because they already know these letters from the science of mathematics or physics. Letters like sigma Σ are also symbols in mathematics.
It's a difficult language because it's one of the so called brotherless languages. Like Hebrew, Japanese, French, languages like these have not common roots with other languages. In the opposite, spanish are very easy because it belongs to the latin group of languages like the italian. An advantage in greek is that the alphabet is simple, I mean isn't like a chinese alphabet which maybe an extremely diffigult to learn. An other advantage is that the letters are pronounced as they appear, except
@hrbear If you learned Latin, you find the verbs in Greek have a similar structure, such as the 'I' in 'I like' being attached to the end of the verb. Also, thanks to extreme persecution during Ottoman rule, the language went underground and probably through fierce national pride was kept pure. My understanding of Greek is weak, but I can read it aloud and Greeks understand it. You can't do that with English.
With a little effort you can quickly learn the modest differences. I think you would be better served to learn the modern language and pronunciation and then move onto biblical Greek. The way they teach the pronunciation of biblical Greek would be a disservice to anyone wanting to pursue Modern Greek afterwards. Nobody speaks that way anymore (if ever).
Biblical Greek is different to modern Greek. Although, many/most modern Greek have roots in the Greek the Bible was written in. If you learn modern Greek, Biblical Greek will be easier but you will notice that grammatically it is very different

Apparently Cypriot Greek is more similar to ancient Greek because they kept many endings like the "n" at the ends of words and have some ancient words gone from standard Greek, although they say the "J" "sh" and "ch" sound that's mnot in standard Greek, although they do say it in some places eg. Crete.

@hrbear actually, French is a latin and romance language, so obviously it has latin roots and is a brother for Italian, Portuguese, Spanish.
And Japanese is slightly connected to korean, you can clearly see it from the grammar rules: they're similar, both make use of particles.
