  • Alot of u are very wrong he starts on 12 he just has it in E minor i have it from the highest authority...SLASH!!!

  • How Slash plays it: with his fingers.

  • 15*

  • What happened to that 14th fret inlay?

  • !! thnks dude!!

  • yo pense que era slash

  • Slow down dam

  • slash acually starts with 11th and not 12th. Just take your hand one thret lower

  • slash acually start with 11th and not 12th

  • thumbs up! if 9gag Brought you here!!

  • 9gag brought you here

  • kick off here,,,,wheres the ball

  • I was missing one note and I was tired and just wanted to get it quick. I dont use tabs, and really dont do videos either.I've done it all by ear. Except one note. Tabs are cheating to me. And really, both times I tried using tabs, the damn things were wrong. So all those learners out there using those tabs just learned it wrong. I trust my ears way more than tabs. This lick is for beginners? Really? Tell that one to Slash, whos obviously a beginner. Kids are playing lots of 80's stuff. it rocks

  • can u do it in spanish? :D

  • If you can pick it up by ear thats great but you should learn to play it a little different and not how slash plays it trust me you will have a lot more fun learning guitar if you put your own little twist to some of the songs

  • Dude we all have eye's n ears. Ya dont have to explain each fingered note. Instead, play each "individual note" Slowly, then little faster, then full speed. Then go to next group of notes n so on. Your taking wayyyyy too long dorking around telling about the notes. I tuned in cause I am missing one damn note, and it was bugging me. But it like too forever to get to it thru the SLOW explaiinations. Maybe I'm too advanced for this lesson?

  • @mbs100k most likely, this song is a beginner song, which means that a lot of young and fresh guitarists is looking it up, and they might need it more slower and explained, if you're so advanced as a guitarist you would not have any problems learning it by ear or using tabs....

  • Does anyone know what type of guitar slash uses in sweet child o mine because i want one like his but forget what its called.

  • @tteezzrreell Gibson Les Paul

  • i can,t find ur 2nd lesson sweet child

  • the tuning must be a half step down

  • doesn't he plays it in one step down tuning?

  • hey dude....what git is that? looks like a FGN?!?! :D

  • "How SLASH plays it - In standard tuning" Well done man

  • very helpfull lesson thanks

  • 32 people don't play guitar or are jealous or both!

  • Thank a lots. May God Bless You.

  • Thanks for doing this in standard tuning. I can't be bothered tuning my guitar down like most of the tutorials require and I don't see any point learning it a fret down!

  • looks like a spider

  • what kind of strings do you have

  • what distrotion are you using to get that sound?

  • um nice lesson but i think u have intonation problem there.

  • Great Lesson, wanted tolearn this riff forever. So, yesterday I started and cracked due to you lesson, thanks.

  • it starts on an upstroke?

  • very good job,man....can u explain the solo,same way??? ill apreciatte it,thanx.

  • Good just 1 thing. It starts on 11th fret. But who cares....... Good job!!

  • @Mrfishingexpert Actually, it starts on the 12th fret, but Slash tunes his axe down one step.

  • @jjenson2006 Well im cool with however u play it :-). I play it on 11th fret because i play it on my Epiphone DR-500 Acoustic. So its easier on 11th fret for me and i think it sounds better on 11th! But however u do it is find. God Bless, Dalton

  • Clear camera and nice instruction! So glad to have this great chance to learn this awesome and famous riff easily~ :D Really appreciate your lesson.

  • cool dude!!!

  • Anyone else use all 4 fingers when playing it?

  • Great post, that is nice song, I like so much...

    nathansaputra,org (SEO Service)

  • @seoserviceful

    stupid asian scammer

  • slash plays it with a top hat and cigarret in his mouth that's how

  • 0:18

    OMG WTF AHHHHHH!

  • Good lesoon. But that vibrato... Not so good.

  • Hi Mark thanks for the lesson that was great and easy to understand thanks for breaking it down, just a quick question on the amp if I can please as I noticed you had a line 6 spider, how do you find these as I am looking for my first modelling amp? Cheers

  • but im seeing you for the first time

  • Great video mate! This helped me alot.

  • tnx

  • checked another lesson out and played with different fingering that been messing me right up got this one at double speed, i shall be posting a hate comment to that guy me thinks!!!!!!! nice on mate

  • i've always wanted to learn this piece but never tried.....

in 1 hour (from 10.30 PM to 23.40) i've looked at your video and i did!!!

    thank you very much!!!

    it's a very good lesson!!!!

  • great vid but r u british??

  • bro thank u, but if i could suggest one thing, let me have that guitar

  • Nice, by the way, when it comes to the 14th fret pedal note, I find it easier to quickly use your second finger instead of making your first finger jump to that fret :) it might not be Slash's way of doing so but it's an option :)

  • if you leave your guitar in standard tuning and move every note down a fret its pretty legit compared to the the original

  • can u teach me how to fret the string properly?cuz when i play there is no sound or there will be te irritating fret noise. ):

  • that took waaaaaay too long

  • Cushty man, thanks very much.

  • Thanks for the lesson. I finally got this song. So far at least. Adios.

  • Supurb Job !!!! I have looked at a bunch of different lessons,, and your is absolutely the best !! Hopefully you do some more !!

  • Supurb Job !!!! I have looked at a bunch of different lessons,, and your is absolutely the best !! Hopefully you do some more !!

  • oh you are so awesome!!!!!!!! Too bad im only a beginner :( It goes so slow when I want to find the notes on the fretboard. Awesome tutorial though! Nice sound (what guitar and amp do you use)? thanks again :D

  • With a tuned guitar it would be better.

  • Why when i play the music on my guitar, sound poor , somebody know's ? (yeah i have amplifier)

  • thanks dude you re awesome and your guitar sounds great thanks again

  • Hey, that actually helped me out a lot! It never dawned on me that I could leave the little finger out all together... Duh!

  • that's awesome! :D

  • Every good video lesson must start with a full-speed demonstration before the actual lesson, so it makes you want to learn it.

If you start with the lesson, played slowly, it may not make sense to the learner until the end of the lesson.

    Anyway, decent lesson. Keep on.

  • i use my pinky for the 15th fret and use my ring finger to roll over from my e- and G string, keeps my hand lined horizontally and practises all your fingers, just a tip :)

  • can u tab this for us

  • Slash does play it in Eb but instead of retuning your guitar just play it one fret lower

  • i play it fine with two fingers

  • Awesome tutorial, was a great help.

  • that sounds horrible

  • @Drew927 Dude .. he was giving a lesson .. and you couldnt buy a lesson any better anywhere... I have seen a lot and I would like to see a more understandable clearly laid out lesson...

  • Play it the way you feel comfortable playing it, remember playing guitar is about playing music and not a technical exercise.

  • I've always used my pinky on this lick. Anyone else...???

  • I Just got my very first guitar so what I'm wondering is what the numbers that you keep saying means.

  • @blackopsandpc they are the frets of the guitar :-) you really should try an easyer song if you are really an beginner

  • @blackopsandpc um yeaah they are the fret numbers starting at the nut( near the tuners) and going up towards the pickups, for instance the double dotted one is 12 fret and I don'tagree with the other fella when I learned I had and old fashoned sort of teacher( he also taught Jeff Healey but no I'm not famous lol) and he made me do a bunch of easy stuff and usually boring stuff which trust me to get reallly good you need to do BUT then he would give me something fun so DIVE IN and ENJOY!!!

  • berry nice

  • Well, i can safely say this is a brilliant tutorial! :) i myself play an imitation gibson SG by a company called Tokai (anyone else heard of them? :D) and it sounds alright. But man you need to change the E string vibrations are... a bit off. :) and you should mention to play each note stocatto, as playing them as a flow results in a really awful sound :/ Otherwise, brilliant tutorial :)

  • thanks dude :)

i kept up with it :)

  • 2:21 xD

  • You should go a little FUCKING slower man!!!!!

  • Thanks man I could not figure out that last bridge to the intro but you helped 5 stars great video

  • thanks man i had some problems but you helped me solve them

great vid & teaching keep it up

  • Great video, thanks!

  • sweet child o mine is an easy incredible song!!

    thanks slash!!

by the way Great lesson friend!!

  • THANKS

  • Thank you for the lesson, but what happened to the 14 fret inlay? It looks like they were placed in glue.

  • Okaydoki, thanks !

  • Ever heard of a tuner bro?

  • Hey man, what the model of this guitar thar are you playing ?

  • Nice Video!

  • Great Lesson, But I believe Slash plays it with the Guitar tuned down to Eb not Standard. But otherwise excellent lesson here for beginners to pick up on and you played it slow enough for newbies to actually pick up on it. (Which is a far cry from store bought lesson videos, which even teach the slow parts too fast for novices to learn from usually)

  • at first i struggled the use my fist finger on the 2nd varaition, but after a few days it became natural. Great lesson help alot with the end of the intro :)

  • Dude why not use your pinkey ring and index fingers instead of index middle ring?? its alot easyer.(well it is for me anyway)

  • After all these years, I am still amazed how one genius riff from a good guitar player made him a legend.

Slash is no Clapton, and could not touch Vaughn in his dreams, but I have to say one thing, Slash made this riff, and Eric and Stevie Ray didn't.

The riff of a lifetime. Slash hit the riff-lotto with this one, and ya know? God bless him for it! This riff just never gets old! Hearing it over a thousand times, and love it every time. What rock dreams are made of.

    Great video, btw! Thank U!

  • just because its the way slash plays it doesnt mean it wont sound good played with a different technique -_- i seen good advice that could help players get this song easier but i keep seeing tips get shot down cause slash doesnt do it, not everyone can play like slash

  • could you please answer this... what do u do to get the same sound as that... nice video by the way

  • its only the intro !

  • Its really nice to see you agan

  • how do u get that uniques sound?? any affetcs??

  • Thanx brother! This song came out when I was 16 and now at 40 you just helped me learn the intro!! I never had the patience before!

  • On the official video instead of playing that last bridge he just does 14 and 15 on last two strings

  • well i can play it but its dus not sound like slash :p can u explane the up and down struming couse everybody is showing the notes but thats the easy part :p like to know what the right hand is doeing so i can play just like slash :p

  • im 14 ur a good teacher :)

  • P sure that slash has his guitar tuned a step down. If anyone is wondering why it dosnt sound quite right.

  • what guitar is that? is it behringer?

  • forgot to tell tht the tunning is tunn to a hafe steep

  • he needs to tune drop d it doesn't sound right

  • Good stuff! Back in my day, I had to learn it by fastforwading/rewinding a cassette and picking it up note by note. People nowadays can learn stuff much easier - they should be thankful to people like yourself!

  • martyzsongs teaches it pretty good

  • you seem to be about a pitch higher than the normal song but it still sounds good

  • cheers for this mate, you really helped me out :)

  • its not the tune and you are playing it on the wrong pickup, but anyway great lesson

  • Cheers for the comment dude. Slash plays a Les Paul Standard with the neck Pick up for the lead lines in the song. I'm using a PRS SC22 using the neck pick up. And i've taught it in standard tuning. If you want to play along to the song then you'll have to tune everything down one semi tone...I though every Gn'R fan new that anyway....... Keep jammin'!!!!

  • @randlesomeguitar Yo, This is the first lesson ive seen by you, and all i can say is wow...Your a great teacher! Very nice sounding guitar, nice and clear and easy to understand talking, I subbed, hope you keep some lessons coming. :)

  • @randlesomeguitar But it doesn't sound right Randy. I suppose the problem is with the Slash Les Paul Standard?

  • Hey man,

Great lesson. Don't worry about the idiots that post negative comments. Youtube allows anyone to post up so if they think they can do better they can try.

    Thanks again!

  • Cheers dude, everyone is entitle the their opinion. You are right though it always seems to be the people that can't do it that post negative comments!!!!!!

    Thanks again and keep jammin'!!

  • Can you send me the tabs please?/

  • nice.. u have shown it in a much simpler way..very good..thanx

  • Thank you soo much!

  • malisimo enseñando... no somos retardados...

  • Its much easier if you use your middle finger to hit the beginning note on the second variation that way your ring finger is already on the 12th fret 3rd string

  • @Gnr1229 1st finger all the way for continuity, That's how i've seen Slash playing it, but thatnke for the comment dude.

  • @Gnr1229

    @Gnr1229

I agree with this. This is the way I play it. I've never bothered to watch Slash, I just play it the most natural way to me, and that is definitely by playing the 2nd variation with the middle finger.

  • @Gnr1229 it doesnt matter of easyness its just playin it the real way and how it was made to be be played (not tryin to sound like a jerk)

  • @TheAerosmith3 Dude there are no rules to guitar. I love slash but who cares how he plays it. Guitar is what works for you. Why play like a robot your supposed to play with you feel not how someone tells you to play it. There are no rules it wasn't made to be played that way im sure Slash would tell you to play it however it comes to you.

  • @Gnr1229 yah i see your point usic is free but when it comes to playin already made songs i guess personaly id like to play it he way it was made harder is more of a challenge too ^_^

  • @TheAerosmith3 Haha i see what you mean everyone plays different

  • @Gnr1229 yah i man i didnt mean ta sound like a jerk but thats just me its more fun 2 xD

  • That strings are 0.011?

  • your 1 theret too high

  • slash does not uses he littlefinger you looser, just saying what you don't know, see the clip retards!

  • its tuned a half step down

  • Slash use the littlefinger. And he tune a half step down.

  • he doesnt use his little finger...

  • Great song! Check out my solo cover and say what you think!

  • when any guns n roses era plays it, they play it on the same frets but their guitar is a half step down. u might should have mentioned that before the video

  • Suggestions: use more reverb, play the whole intro before starting lesson, add "intro" in the title of this video. Aside this: I've seen many good guitar players teaching this song, but your video is the best! 5 stars, because of good "video shot" and many other things

  • i ment the overdirve i sounds so good but wondered if he had a preset for the amp

  • you need reverb brother

  • how to you get your line 6 to sound like tht

  • to play it in standard you start at d flat which is the 11th fret not 12th

  • Might I recommend you play the riff in full before you go through it note-by-note? It's easier to get some perspective that way (even if you know the riff, it's always nice to hear it at full-speed before you break it down).

  • why didnt you down tune the guitar a semi tone ?

  • Hey dude, cheers for watching. Most people play guitar in standard tuning so it seems appropriate to teach in standard and then if you want to play along with the track then drop it down...it's all good!!! Keep watching

  • @randlesomeguitar yh most ppl dont down tune a semi tone. it sounds more like slash's if u push everything one fret down the neck.

  • THE VERSE PLS MAKE A VID FOR VERSE i am going mad no one makes the verse all the fucking intro we are so limited i know the verse but i dont think the right way i i need it :((

  • i think the chords is D C G D and i can put out a vid with alesson to the chorus

and a little bit of the solo :D

  • I love Slash!!!!!!!!!!!!! XD

  • good lesson, and yes that is the way slash plays it.

  • I don't really like the sound of that guitar, but otherwise, good lesson.

  • goood job on teaching

  • Dude...its not standard tuning Slash does not play it standard tuning, he plays it half down a step

  • I know!!!! If you read the notes it says so! Most people have their guitars in concert pitch so thats how i teach it. If you want to play along to the record then drop every string down a semitone.....

  • slash plays it with pick :D and standar tunning

  • its tuned down a hlf step and theres a pedal tone on the 14's man play it right

  • great man! thanks, it really helped!

  • hey you stupid fat guy slash oly play in be mol you idiot not in standar you fat get fvcked....dont but idiots coments of your videos.

  • Idiot..learn how to spell

  • absolutely and really the best "how to play SCOM" lesson that I've ever seen in youtube. Great Job man, let's show us how to play middle solo and outro solo. I bet you'll show the best way ;)

  • Cheers mate, I'm not spending much time on this at the mo as I need to concentrate on 'paid' lessons. But if the donations start coming then i'll get the solos on here!!

  • actually u have to transpose this one fret down if u play in standard tuning

  • Thanks for this...it actually directs you to do this anyway in the notes but cheers for watching

  • Comment removed

  • thats impossible T.T
