My dad said his 1st Air Calv unit had one on each corner of their base. They were used to mow down the Viet Cong as they tried to overrun the base EVERY single night with 100's of soldiers running in groups toward the base shooting AK's. Pretty effective he said...nobody ever got much closer than 100 yards before they were reduced to mush.

Soldiers have mini guns and also we no longer need four of these. These were anti aircraft guns, now we have cheaper means of blowing shit up out of the sky. And faster means. AT4 for armored, TOWs or JAVELINS for big armor and jets. fifty can is good for ordance disposal at a safe distance and anything with less then 8 inches of armor (RAUFUS rounds a must though) HA HA

@WiseManOfTheForestSK I'm amazed that they still have Javelins in service. We called 'em portable death traps when I was in the service, it was the 1st thing we threw away. My brother was a TOW gunner and I liked them - but they were big SoB's and were a good target for the enemy. The Quad .50 was a beauty to shoot and we didn't use them for AA all the time. We were allowed to use it to destroy enemy equipment, so we used it for all that we could find... even individual personal equipment...

Loading fifty cal is kind of hard with the PSI, along with making sure the shells are properly measured after the casing are warped. Sadly you can create that. You just need about 30000 dollars and you will only get to have it semi, Your looking at about 50 Gs for each CLASS 3 for full auto. But really why the hell do you need Full Auto unless your tracing a plane HA HA HA...I will do just fine sitting on top of my house and taking caring of any wildlife problem or pesky sales men.

We really need to reconsider the old Vietnam gun truck idea for urban combat. I can't think of a better weapon for instantly breaking up an urban ambush or sniper attack (except for maybe the 120mm shotgun round for the Abrams).

A Quadmount going cyclic will reduce a concrete block building to rubble in under a minute. Isn't this precisely the kind of thing you'd want to do in an urban guerrilla war? Or is that politically incorrect?

@Bullzeye95 All we would need to do is put a Dillon gun mount on a Humvee. I think a single Dillon gun puts out more fire than 4 Browning .50's. If you need a larger round than what the Dillon gun fires, than call in a Bradley or M1A1. Or a Stryker mobile gun loaded with shot =)

Trans planted AA guns like the Quad,, but they did the job.The guns were 20mm Hispano's, same ones we used on some of our WWII aircraft, If memory serves. Guaranteed a bad day if you were out front of them.

@sarcoed yes you can. I say an M2 semiautomatic rifle in a the backroom of a local gunshop (OC armory, near Irvine, CA). I asked about it, the owner says its a "crew served weapon", and therefore is legal in CA. this is the only way to buy any gun in .50 BMG in California after 2004. It's quite pricey too, about $9000.
