ok i have a question,how would i set crystal quartz stones into a ring that has been made with pmc? can you place it in the ring and then fire it or would i have to fire it then solder the stones into it?i am a newbie to this so im trying to learn all i can.

Use cubic zirconia instead, as you can bezel set it in pmc as you are building you piece of jewelry. The cz will be able to take the heat of firing, where as a lot of natural stones cannot. I hope this helps you.

If you really want to use quartz or another natural stone that can't be fired in place you can get bezel cups and prong settings in fine silver that can be embedded in the clay then after firing you can set the stone in it. One place is pmcsupply but also other sites that sell metal clay supplies.
