3 dislikes who need a hearing aid! Not since Zimmerman have i been in awe of a Chopin like i am of Kissin. There's nothing to say about the way he plays, we should stop whatever we are doing, close our eyes and listen to what perfection sounds like....
@sirdelrio Nobody cares to read what you have to say. If you were so great a pianist then why aren't you as famous as kissin? what¡s next? Is Marc Andre Hamelin also a bad pianist? Gould sucks, just like you, eat balls bitch
I'm not the only one who thinks Kissin still plays like a 14yo prodigy. Give yourselves some time to meditate that sentence: like a 14yo prodigy. Several professional critics have exposed this elocuently. How happy i was to arrive to those loathing reviews, having already formed a disadvantageous opinion of him. Be honest with yourselves, look inside your hearts, and ask: am I believing the emperor has clothes? or is he naked?
I should actually be waving his flag -- he's a graduate of my kid's high school (LaGuardia in NYC). He's very damned good, but among the young ones out there now I like the Norwegian kid Andsnes.
I like the Polonaise very much, but I prefer Argerich's Andante Spianato. I really don't like to compare, because I love the richness that different interpretations bring to music, but its an invitation for you to listen to Argerich's, who's also my argentine compatriot!
@bandraginous5 I wonder how your standards for 'genius' are constructed. Geniuses were Gould and Richter, the rest is great talent, at best. A genius is someone who makes groundbraking, field transforming contributions to their field of expertise. There is nothing new in Kissin's playing.
it's like he is blessed with a natural instinct for music essentials but his brain is almost dull. like rainman. there are just beautiful sounds, sometimes monotony as hell, but there's not a mind conveying a powerfull message. Kissin is just the product of "child-prodigy marketing"
Kissin is the Rainman of piano. Have you heard him at any interview, what a moron. and his playing is kind of a caricature of fine playing: the technique is there, the sound is almost there, but there is nothing original o unique in his playing, it is simply fine. sometimes is a lot less than fine.
@sirdelrio@sirdelrio, i think you are wrong! Ther is nothing original in his playing? Have you heard his first Ballade of Chopin? I think that his way of playng is really unique and his interpretations are often too deep and not always I like them (usually yes). In my opinion his interpretations are often different from the way as we are used to hear them...
I don't care if he is dull or moron or whatever, I'm interested in his way of making music and I love hearing to him...
@PieroBolzano with all due respect, there is nothing deep in Evgeni Kissin, quite the oposite. If he played anything different from acoustomed (say Gould or Richter or Michelangeli) it would be compelling, but it isn't the case. I'm convinced that Kissin's reputation is an unjustified augmenting gossip, impresarios are not going to tell you that the kid they promoted as future would be genius resulted to be just a savant.
@JOHNNYWADTON when one recieves an insult as a reply to a comment that was not offensive it is clear that either one touched a sensitive nerve or is dealing with someone without any counterarguments. i dont need to show how much of a great player or not i might be to make a judgement, that's what criticism is all about, right?
He used to have "Cziffra-like" hands (thin and so elegant) and with the wheight he's been gaining they rather look like Marc Andre Hamelin's (not an insult at all of course)...it's the first time I do think so...maybe a question of perspective!
haha i feel just the opposite - i love andante spianato but hate it when grande polonaise comes on... it's like waking me up from a beautiful tranquil dream
There are so many great pianists these days. But I must say, Kissin stands alone. Like a meteor whose pass by the earth will not be repeated for generations, his technique and one-ness with the instrument and with the music is unique in this generation. He has worked hard to perfect his gift, but ability of this kind is indeed a God-given gift.
@briarcliffbaron sorry to disagree. there are not that much of great pianists these days. in fact the present glory of people like Kissin is just like we say in my country: in a country of blind people, the one-eyed is king.
I'm going to see him soon!!! :)

A slightly heavy andante spianato but still a thoroughly gorgeous performance...Kissin probes deep with his interpretations! He is an Old Soul

Mais de quelle planète vient-t-il? Il vit réellement sa musique contrairement à Lugansky qui se sert de la musique pour se mettre en valeur!

Kissin is a genius. By far the greatest pianist of our generation. Watch his La Campanella if you need any more convincing.
