  • Em que parte do planeta isso que ele toca se chama música. Tem ótimas abilidades mais poderia ser mostrado de outra forma.

  • Lots of good ideas but, It could be played better. I think he has it in him to do a better take of this.

  • naaa que temasoooo

  • Hello Macro!

How do you like your G&L? I don't want to buy more cheap basses, i think i will save up and buy a G&L L2000 if it worth it.

  • the melody from 1:00 to 1:40 has to be from the hands of a guitarist . . . are you a guitarist as well?

  • THIS man is awful, and not very talented. Unlike me..

  • @bassphantomkorea actually when i read that i went to look at your channel, and you suck. Your little scream mask thing and using the accent is racist, not to mention stupid lol

  • @wheatthins05 Since you (according to your channel) don't posess the skills/chops for utilizing red hot-u chili pepper garbage on ourtube yet, I suggest you follow our channel and learn how to utilize like a professional. My accent is a part of my heritage, it is YOU who is rascist. The Empire will learn of this..

  • this is awesome...this fellow has quickly become a new favorite bassist of mine. the frenetic style in parts of this remind me a bit of the band, the books (who are one of my absolute favorites), but this is definitely something all his own. yay for playing with feeling :-)

  • beetoven, mozart, and bach all lived & created music prior to the introduction of the metronome as a useful tool for musicians in the early 1800's - if metronome work is so necessary, i wonder how they were so successful?

not that i would compare any living musician to the likes of those 3, but it's important to understand that music "theory" has developed in an attempt to explain music.

it's not as if music theory was developed first, and then all creativity flowed thereafter.

  • c'est bien d'avoir de la creativité , mais il va falloir passer en mode j'apprend mes gammes , metronome ect...

  • Don't mistake god-awful tone for sloppiness. This guy can play like a motherfuck but his bass sounds rrrrreeeaaally bad in my opinion.

  • undiscovered color

    wonderful theme

    woderful bass playing

    respect and tribute to marco

  • People really need to stop responding to comments made three years ago. Seriously, shut up.

Anyway, this is some kickass playing, really fun song man.

  • Anyone here have this Song for mp3? or 50:1:40 ? thanks

  • You're awesome! You're really creative...your gonna make a lot of people jealous...get used to the haters.

  • my fav part 0:50 - 1:40

  • how can someone even mention theory and metronomes when listening to something this awesome. come on now

  • is this your real name; Marco Rodi? It's the first time that I heard the name "Rodi" by a person who isn't a kurd :D

  • Hum...this song is a little confuse for me...don't like...

  • jjajajaj ese marco hayyy!!!! increible

  • Some of the comments criticizing Marco because he is somehow revealed to not know proper "theory" ? LOL! His playing is excellent and fun to watch and hear. What does that have to do with "theory?" Some of you need to get a life. Some of the most boring music is done by people who are educated in music theory. I think Marco's playing is awesome. So what do you say to that? What if I like his music?

  • @bonzelite

Very well said. I'm taking music theory right now, and I already know some chords before my teacher came. Music theory is supposed to be a "guide"; it should not a way to musical life. Some of the most creative people don't really know music theory.

Now, Mr.Rodi here, is a true master. He really uses parts of the bass that even Jaco wouldn't have thought of! I like this guy. He's an inspiration.

  • @FrostyPuddle A true master wouldn't get all uptight over someone's very legitimate advice to work with a metronome. Bass players' first and foremost job to do is groove and you can't groove without proper tempo and pulse. And you obviously have not listened to or watched any Jaco footage or you would have left him out of your comparison with Mr. Rodi. Also, Jaco was beat to death in his 30's; long before his time so who are you to say what he would have thought of.

  • @trevormichaelbs

I have watched many footages of Jaco. Don't be so quick to judge. Does it really matter what bass player's job is? You're saying what a bass player's job is in a band. I don't think Rodi cares about working with a metronome or not. He said it himself. This man has his own personal style and groove and brings the bass in a different light besides Jaco. You can't argue with that. There are so many bassists out there who defined bass; he is one of them.

    I don't want to argue.

  • Fucking cool. BRavo.

  • Hey man, nice vid. What amp do you use?

  • Grande marco...sei il miglior bassista che io conosca, giuro!

    sangue italiano! :D

  • Excellent work Marco, and there's no problem about not using a metronome or about music theory, Jeff Berlin is one of the greatest bass players in the world and doesn't use a metronome, you can check all the discussion boards created around this on his webpage, and for music theory always remember what Vic Wooten said about Denis Chambers, music Theory HELPS, but it's not Music itself. so Keep going I really like your work.

    Peace

  • I think u are playing so nice! I like your creativity. You are good. Anyway, I think you should practice timing a bit. I say it with all love. Cause you play too good, but it looks like you are rushing with the instrument... I like it very much anyway.

  • 0:50 yes YES

  • its discovering videos like this that makes me glad to be one of your subscribers

  • Marco, you are amazing and I am in awe of your skills, metronome does fine only for filling assholes

  • Simply fantastic !!! You're a great bass player, and don't let people talking about things they don't understand a simple word...

  • Amazing playing, I am now motivated to play my bass thanks :)

  • Awesome! :)

  • i just read the two comments below. there is nothing wrong with experimenting, pushing the envelope when it comes to theory, finding new tones and all around making yourself a more "seasoned" musician. but i have to say. all the best parts of your little ditty's the parts that are fairly in time. maintaining time has to be executed with conviction and unwavering attention detail. things will make more sense "in time". to others. two yrs with a metronome? you should WANT to use one forever.

  • @adamhagen420

aww fuck, musik theory does nothing limit the sounds in you're mind and a metronome keeps you to one time, when perhaps you wanted to get the vibe of slowing down and speeding up very gradually at certain passages

all these thigns peope cling to only limit them as artists

  • that's what i am talking about !!!!! keep it UP Marco !!!

  • cool

  • wow mate you really searched for the sounds didn't you :D !!! its good that you are into the groove and have good years :D :D !! nice solo :) !!

Some people use their brain to make music :) !!! Some people just **** that and use their ears :P !! heres a dude that uses his ears :) !!

  • Hey marco, the title is quite apt, in so far as the colors and sounds on the bass are concerned. you do an amazing job there.

yeah, maybe its a bit messy in places, but the way i look at it, its hard to get things in line when you are doing so many things in one go. as long as you keep practicing that piece, i'm sure you will be perfectly in line in no time.

you're a great player and an inspiration to me.

    cheers.

  • "chamullento bass"

  • If you want your songs to be nice, there's one thing you HAVE to respect, and it's the tempo ! It has to be everytime the same. If many people here say that it's messy, it's only because of that.. Apart of that, you are talented, just practice the tempo.

  • Le tue canzoni sono magnifiche! Condivido, inoltre, in pienissimo il tuo approccio allo strumento e alla musica in generale. Continua così

  • check out my originals.

  • Now, could I do better? I'd never say if I could. I am not arrogant! Am I confident that I could learn and play this tune? Yes. Could I make mistakes too? Heck yeah! But I like people to tell me when I make them.

One of my favorite artists is Phil Keaggy. He is the type of musician that could probably never make a mistake. But sometimes he does. He cracks jokes about it. It is nice that such an incredible musician is also human, and subject to making mistakes.

  • @JacobawSnow

You can't do better or learn this tune I call shennigans just fucking with you dude. Your a cool calm guy didn't turn this into a flame war...I understand where you're coming from...i'd smoke a joint with you if I knew who you were,

  • Haha, I don't smoke, but I will take that as a compliment.

I would like to say "better" is only an opinion. I'd contend that I could play this tune. But playing this kind of music, other peoples music, or recording songs on youtube isn't my thing. I am not knocking anyone. I am glad people make videos. I love checking out gear. That is my favorite thing to do on youtube.

Also, I prefere playing drums or guitar to bass any day. When I do play bass I am rather minimalistic. Just for fullness.

  • would i be included in the session?

  • There were parts of this song that were very out of time. But it is a cool tune with some neat tricks. I like it. I hope people don't get mad at me now.

  • @JacobawSnow

I'll say what I always say can you do better...there is no timing in this song its a bass solo his timing ins what he decides it is...he is not using a metronome. Or a drummer...and melody rarely has to keep time, and this is a melodic solo.

  • I wasn't trying to be insulting and I don't mean to be contrary either. But there is timing. There may not be a met or a drummer but that isn't to say there isn't rhythm. He sets the rhthem and there are some places that his hands aren't keeping up. I know an accelerando or ritardando, appassionato or animato, and I know tempo changes. None of which is what I was hearing when I commented on the timing issues. Time is as important to music as melody or harmony. Again, I don't mean to insult.

  • This is mesmerizing, take me to another place !

  • really really amazing

  • a great example of keeping rhythm! love the pocket!

  • bravo!!!!! mi piace molto il tuo stile.

  • MIND BLOWN!

  • That bit in the middle was ridiculous... How do you work those bass strings like they're light gauge guitar strings??? Excellent.

  • @Knarf009 he uses a wha pedal

  • damn man! that was gnarley! I wanna see you live

  • What a title!

  • brilliant ,,,

  • excellent creativity and feel!

once you master the art of living in the pocket you'll be up there with the greats amigo!

    incredible!

  • 2:40-3:25

My jaw hit the floor and is permanently dragging behind me.

  • AWESOME!

  • Holy shit...

  • Dope dude!

  • Wow!!!! I 'thought' I played bass...that is awesome and original stuff...Good job..very nice!!!

  • i really love this, im going to figure it out.

  • keep it up dude, very interesting sounds, especially during the intro.. just need a bit of practice on the rhythm and timing. tapping was excellent!

  • This is one of the most brilliant things i've ever heard. Please continue to exeriment, find new sounds, and ways to play this great instrument.

  • i only like when you start playing well the start i dont like it very much, but nice one any way!

  • G&L... Love their instruments... and his playing...

  • interesting. ^_^

  • This is so... Funky... and Fresh...

    I just got served.

  • this video is brilliant ;)

    You're a fantastic bass player :D

  • this song is great, whats the tunning?

  • i dind't like the intro, that stuff remember stampede at night but worst =/

but the melodic part was something i have been looking for the put on the bass but i couldn't, congratz, this melodic is really something amazing.

try some other intros for that song =D

  • =/ the intro is the best and genial part

  • But it reminds me of drifting, Andy McKee or whats that dudes name?

  • I could listen to him all day :D

    He's amazing :P

  • Not a big fan of the intro, but the meldoic parts are really something else, you sould post a lesson or two

    congratulations

  • You are the Andy McKee of the bass.

You are the John Frusciante of the bass :)

  • My fav part is 1:00 to 1:40 - that theme/set of melodic runs are genius :)

  • @eoieduff sure! :D

  • Amazing! Nice sound man...

  • Man that messiness is what lends this songs its allure. Its what this song is about. So many different things going on and happenin and changing. Its beautiful, like everything else you write. Amazing.

  • some phrases are so cool and so enjoyable but others directly following just suck... sorry... like it was said before... messy... not my favourite...

  • do better, or else dont talk shit. This guy did a great job.

  • @noonesenemy89 I must be hearing something else cause how you can call that "messy" makes no sense to me, but yes you should feel sorry

  • @noonesenemy89 You spell "favorite" with a "u." your argument is invalid, and you "just suck...sorry."

  • @SE7ENHILLPSYCHO I'm really sorry for your small mind, since spelling favourite with the u is simply british. Sorry if you're ignorant to knowledge about the language you speak ;)

kind regards to the simple minded psycho you pretend to be...

  • Comment removed

  • @noonesenemy89 Before you criticize someones bass playing, post a video of yourself playing, or shut the fuck up.

  • that messy style is rodis style man!

and I dig it sooo bad

  • Really nice m8, but yeah unfortunately I have to agree with CHamboga - "really good stuff there marco but i think the song is a bit messy."

    Good work! @(-_-)@

  • really good stuff there marco but i think the song is a bit messy.

to clarify, some bits just dont fit into the song. it sounds like 5 songs have just had taken parts out and put together.

there are bits where it sounds awesome but others where it just sounds like a mess

    keep up the good work

  • You are the guitarist od drums player? :D reaaally reaaally cool

time doesnt exist. i love the sounds

  • Very cool propea! Nice name too! You are one of a kind!

  • wow you're one of the best bassists i've ever heard

  • quit your arguing. like marco said, bass playing for him isnt about being in time and group playing. Obviously, he just likes to experiment. Sounds fine, Marco keep it up.

  • its sync'ed if u say so. it's your song right?

  • why are you guys hateing on this guy, hes an amazeing bass player. just because he does something different doesnt make it bad. Marco Rodi you rock keep on slappin the shit out that bass it all sounds good over here.

  • You asked for me to be mean so i was i didn't want to be but you pushed it out. Marco you just need to practice with your metronome even if it is boring and learn more theory it will pay off trust me

  • Hello. Maybe theory and metronome is working out well for you. It's cool. I respect that. But for me, I find it useless because I only want to experiment different sounds with my bass. I dont need timing or theory for that. I practiced theory and metronome for 2 years and I got bored because it was getting me nowhere. So right now, I'm fine with only my creativity and my bass. You should respect other musicians for who they are instead of trying to change them.

    Peace.

    Marco Rodi

  • I agree Marco...the instrument doesn't define the player as much as the player defines the instrument. I'm a terrible slap player, *IF* I use my thumb. I've made a reasonable effort, but it's just not natural. Instead, I use the tip of my middle finger. I have never taken bass lessons (guitar is a different issue...) and my style is a nearly pure expression of self. You've obviously got a good thing going on, your sound is distinctive and it's outside the box. Rock on.

  • @propea very creative no doubt about that...but music is rythm after all!!!too bad u dont pratice that rythm and so music!!!!!!!!

  • It sounds like I pushed out a horse from you ass! I am not here to have a competition with you...I dunno if thats what you base musicality on. If so...I feel sorry for you! Also I have seen some spectacular things in my life maybe you could add one to my list or stop talking bullshit! Which one? Wait I forgot...you are the almighty GOD of music and you don't to justify your bullshit as we should all bow down to you!!! Haha...try not to be so uptight! It might change your life.

  • well, trust me, I know music, and that sounded perfectly in time to me, but of course you would know more than me with your tours and your degree and your...Michael Manring. Get off the horse man, seriously, for all of us.

  • @slapbassman he doesn't need a metronome dude. Metronomes are for people who don't have the rhythm in them... look at him tapping his left foot the whole time. he's all about rhythm. And fuck theory. music comes from within. music is emotion. Theory can water that down. I'm sure it works for some people, but people like Marco and Flea don't need theory. Flea didn't bother with music theory until a couple years ago. And its one of the things that makes them so original.

  • @bassflags while i agree that theory can water it down, not knowing it is like speaking a language and not being able to read it, it causes problems, communication break downs dig?

  • @slapbassman I play bass, both solo and in a band. When I'm doing it solo, I usually just go with my gut on things, but then in retrospect, I hear the theory in the jam. Rhythm and harmony and melody are what make up music, and everyone has some in 'em; but once yez learn enough theory, you can start pushing that to make even more unique sounding things. Frank Zappa, Jeff Beck, Steve Vai, etc., etc. Learn the theory, let it become a part of you, but MAKE SURE IT STAYS as just a PART of you. :D

  • It was in my opinion and I get bashed even though I say the song is tastful

  • I'd like to see you put that to the test.

  • I have been playing drums for 11-12 years now and study music and know a lot about music theory! I don't see myself ever being able to do that! Your an idiot!

  • Or maybe you are talking Bullshit and don't have a clue what you are talking about! You show me that happen and I will accept that I am not creative but untill I see proof I will still thing you are a dillusional idiot that is deaf!

  • I have played with more people and have toured more than you and Marco combined. I'm telling you this a bunch of noises in melodic succession and its off time in most places I mean stick him with a group and you will see him struggle also i have a background in theory so don't tell me what to think because who has the degree and experience? me. Also you need to back off I said its fine i mean its mediocre at best i know Michael Manring personally and I'm quite sure he would agree

  • Hmm.I think you will find it is all in time with the exception of like 1 note! Ha! Oh.I know Bob from my local paper shop! Oh wait I see what you tried to do.Em...ok...I know John Sinclair Personally! I can assure you he would disagree with everything you have said but who is he...he has only played infront of 200,000 people a couple of hundred times! Oh and also I forgot you know me and know everyhting about me to make a statement like "played with more people and have toured more than you"

  • @slapbassman

    your arrogance is disgusting

  • @slapbassman who are some acts you have toured with? id like to check out some vids slapbassman

  • Quebec power well since i only know your from Montreal ill speak english.Great with the percussion sounds (even though i still don't know how you do them but im workin on it)and i like de high pinch sounds needless to say that evrything else in the song was awsome keep up the great work from a fellow Quebec bassist

  • this is amazing!

  • you need to tell me how you do each of those percussion sounds on your bass in or der, like the mute "sounding" note, with the loud high pitched pop and with any other percussion sounds, like if you need a certain amp or pickups or what, i'd really like to know. please tell me.

  • just experiment man. you'd be amazed what a bass can do

  • ı love you:D

  • very cool!

  • didn't like the intro but the rest is really good

  • Didnt care much for the intro, but wow the rest was great. Awesome melodies!

  • Fantastic solo, are you Italian?

  • all my family is born in italy but im born in canada :p

  • Very cool,. I dig, . Great job,.

  • nice work, i wish i could play like that....

  • real men need only 4 strings

  • what kinda of chords are those when he's strumming?

  • anyone know? answer me!

  • he's pretty much using your standard 1-5-8 powerchord. But instead of playing 5 and 8, he's playing the harmonic that is in their place.

  • and around 3:30, i'm pretty sure those are all either powerchords or just the 1-5 double stop strummed. not too hard.

  • The only thing i noticed, it's your left hand position, that sometimes you raise your thumb over the neck, and i've hear that you've might get problems in the carpal tunnel, and that might give you a rough time, i'm not completely sure of it, but i think it would be wise to check this with someone who knows...and this is for good music's sake!

Keep up the excelent work!! Kudos

  • Dude i've been watching your videos and i'm impressed! Really i hope you keep doing this kind of work, cause it's great! It's absolutely incredible, each one fo your videos has a spark of geniality and impressive skills.

  • Kudos! 5 stars!

  • Man, that kicks ass. I wish I could write/play stuff like that.

  • cool. really.

  • Good stuff. I definitely see a lot of the Manring influence, which is a good thing considering his stuff is so difficult. Love all the ideas.

  • nice, your music's cool ! !!! !

  • ive been playing for as long as you have and i suck.

  • cool !

  • Omg... and to know you've on;y been playing for 5 years?! That's incredible

  • thats absolutley incredible

  • All I can say is F*cking A!! Awesome stuff...

  • yo marco, this song is a real shock! I loved every bit of it, from the percussive sections to the melodic section about at 1:00 to the tapping section, everything gave me the goosebumps...

Man I hope you become extra famous...

  • nice man. its always good to try to create a new sound. and btw i think you ended on the same note victor wooten did in classical thump. haha nice.

  • Wow, great technique marco! You're really innovative, and you get more sound with just a bass than most people can with a whole band! Hah hah. Keep on rockin', man.

  • Man, this is so creative... I really dug the percussive section at the beginning. That really high pitched note you threw in there... was that a first fret harmonic or something? If so, I have no idea how you got it that loud. Regardless, fantastic stuff man. Keep it up!

  • i think he actually played the stirng after the first fret and abouve the neck, but how he got it that loud, just anouther mystery of his magnificance

  • I prefer the melodic section more than the percussive section... but very good.

  • sounds awesome man.

  • Hell yeah

Felicitation

  • This guy has become one of my favorite bass players.

  • wow. . . that was one of the most creative things i have ever seen. and believe me i wouldn't say it if it wasn't true. wow

  • Hey Marco, now that you mention it, can you PLEASE COVER HELIOS BY MICHAEL MANRING! It would be so awesome if you did! Thanks

  • HAHAHAHAHHA nobody is able to cover that song.

  • Lol....sorry! You're right. NO ONE can cover that song! THAT IS JUST IMPOSSIBLE!

Besides, it doesn't seem as if you have a hyperbass, so don't even bother trying.

Can you play any Manring song?

  • awesome! I really liked the melody.

  • Inspiring and deppresing at the same time ;d Look for Abe Laboriel vidz for more inspiration ;D
