I'm great friends with Big Jim's son who plays the steel too and he's great like his dad was. Thanks for posting this video...it was great to see his dad play.
i was sitting on stage in this video i was 13 years old, it started snowing very hard in Nashville and we had to leave the show early to get back to Atlanta keep from being snowed in
What a wonderful sight to watch for me.Big Jim Webb on the steele was my brother-n-law.He has passed away and i miss him very much.I was his brother Richard (Archie) Webb's wife. They both passed away very close in time.Thank You for showing this video on your site.It is like Jimmy is still alive and doing what he did best.Playing country music.R.I.P.Jimmy Webb.&Richard Webb. God Bless.. E.Webb
@WEBBS1LOVE I am a steel player that was working with song writer Kent Westbury back in the late 70's and we toured with Del Reeves and I knew Jim Webb.We had a load of fun and Del was always playing jokes on everyone. I remember sitting on his bus one night having some drinks and we tried to write a song together and I don't know if we ever finished it...Those were some great days and I agree that country ain't country anymore. Regards, Joe English
@heywilbur Hey Will, you could be right, it might be "80 & "81. Anyway, I just noticed your responce from a year ago. Hope you're doing well, let's try to get in touch.
It's a little sad to look back on this. Even then, Country music was dying, but then a legend would get onstage and tear the house down. Now there aren't as many legends still with us and the music has died a little more, but every time one of them steps up to sing, a little spark of what used to be comes back. And just for a moment, nobody cares about Rascal Flatts or Taylor Swift because a REAL country singer just rocked their world.
@jpeanrkode I fully agree with you.You said every word i have been saying for along time.I have listened to real country music from age 3 years old.And could sing them all and not miss a beat. I can't describe what the cma is thinking now.Its not country!Vern Gosdin my favorite he was one of the greats. The cma made no room to tribute even 1 minute to his talent on their!award show..He passed away right before the awards,so i know they did not forget?Good to know real fans are still here.
@jbrentscott Gaylord didn't have anything to do with it, in fact their WSM is one of the few pure country stations left in the US. The music died, and the record producers kept seeing lower and lower sales, and in effect, these "new country" guys have been just that.. a way of expanding on the traditional sounds with a new sound all their own. If it don't sell, you're not going to hear it on radio or at the record stores.
Enjoyed the heck! out of this one.. As for the vocals going flat what you hear is the sound tech pulled drum vocals out of main mix..and what you hear is moniter mix. Did you catch Del get the course line backwards on the second song. Love It !
We need this type of Country Music instead of the rock and rollified shit Nashville trys to feed us these days and call it Country Music! Long live the real ballad bands and the steel guitar!
I loved Del Reeves; he was a master musician, singer, and impersonator; I loved it when he would impersonate Roy Acuff, Little Jimmy Dickens, and George Jones! And he doesn't do a half bad job on Ray Price, either! FIVE stars; wonderful vid! Added to "Grand Ole Opry" playlist; thanks! :)
In reference to American popular music, Willie Nelson once said "It's either the blues or the Star Spangled Banner". The melody of "Crazy Arms" is nearly identical to Bob Wills' "No News is Good News" except the latter has a bridge. Anyone know which one came first?
Country music at its greatest. Del Reeves was one great wonderful performers who had his own style and delivered every song in a quality fashion. R.I.P Del, we still miss you and that is a great sounding band you had, Big Jim on steel was superb....
I am Big Jim Webb's daughter and I am looking for pictures or video's of him.

We don't have any real country music any more.
These people are the last unless George happens
to be seen some place or hear a record on some radio station of one of the older people.
.OR hear one of the people on You Tube Face some one who likes real music.

OK... is Jim Hartley out there?
email me :O) I played piano for Del for 2 years... probably just before this video, since I'm not on it, though played with Del from 77-79.
Charlie's not playing bass either... so I wonder if "79" is correct? Charlie left to work with The Kendalls, as I did not too long after....
what a hoot though ;o) -ws

I didn't know Del played fiddle. It's refreshing to see a lead singer playing fiddle.
