Probably the only driver in the last decade you'd pay to watch driving... I remember me clutching the edge of my sofa while watching him execute his maneuvers (Interlagos 2002 and umpteen more..)
The driver you'd want to drive like when you're out with your sports car in the city... :))
Montoya, Alonso, Raikkonen, Button and Webber were competing in the 2005 and 2006 seasons, the most prominent (showman, poles and maneuvering) was montoya, he wasn´t champion by the car, because the talent, he gives, then what difference would it today?
@carlocrace yeah i know hes not as good as he was now, but this isnt now this is back in 2005 and 2006 when he was with ferrari and he was a lot better
and this guy was not suitable for mclaren .... for frank williams he was ideal, aggressive, but for ron dennis,. after some mistakes one of the rare drivers alongside andretti who got fired before the season ended ... : (
@WeLWets Yeah but Andretti was definitely subpar. Arrived to the circuit on Fridays, never visited the factory, couldn´t work with the engineers. Montoya was competitive all the time, just not as good as Kimi.
@aguacatito2k Poor dumbass montoya was, is & will be better (by miles & speed) than raikkonen - look the f1 on today (button & webber are below than montoya and are winning by the cars)

montoya should come back to f1 coz it's getting boring there! and his nemesis schumacher is there i think they should renew their rivalry.. i miss his aggressive driving coz i don't see that in today's f1 drivers..
You should of put a clip on from the Austrian GP in 2001, the point where Montoya sacrafises his race to ruin it for schumi at turn 2, that was class!
I am not quite sure, it was either due to Italian government laws that prohibit Smoke companies to sponsor sport events or as respect to 9/11 since this race was on the sunday of that same week
so he drove the best car for a couple of years.. he took and awfull lot of poles.. bud still never won the championship.. what does this say?... he aint that good. hes fast for 1 lap.. bud not consistant enough. he had big balls.. yeah.. bud that isn't always a good thing.. you can try to overtake someone on first attemt at full risk... or you can push for some laps and pass him when there is less risk
mvblom.... my friend let me tell you, JPM never had the best car, because the best car IS CONSISTANT ENOUGH FOR A RACE, like a Ferrari. The pilot is 25%, Tires 25%, Engine 25% and Aerodynamics 25%.
Let me tell you, If JPM have had it, he had been World Champion.... For instance, Jenson Button had it last season and.... Voilá... World Champion.
@sisaspepe Yes But Montoya's presence in F1 didnt serve the interests of the Scuderia and their business partners Ferrari International Assistance (aka the FIA)

F1 is a politic power game. When Montoya clearly showed to be better than Schumy the game started,It's very easy to win when you have Barrichello working for you (what a shame),when you have the blu Ferrari(Sauber) working for you (what a shame) and when you have Fia-Judges working for you(disgusting). Schumy was good but.give those "facility" to any other good driver and he surely 'll be WC .Montoya had all this "against" so his job in F1 has been simply extraordinary
I really belive that there are two kind of people in the world. Those who understand Montoya's art and those who don't.The second one usually are those who still haven't understand the dirty joke that Ferrari-Fia did against Montoya and before to.I suppose there is no way to change their "opinion" they usually simply follow in blind way the mainstream

7 poles in 2002(just like Schumacher this year),including a five in a row(Monaco,Canada,Europe,Great-Britain and France)and the fastest F1 lap ever(Italy)
montoya was one of the great talents in racing. what he did in champ car and the short time in f1 was amazing. but to go to nascar was just a waste of immense talent. he could have possibly been world champion, instead he went to be a pawn in the game of nascar.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
There is only three kinds of people, people that dont no racin, People who have there right minds who hate montoya, and people in there wrong minds who love montoya
The day Montoya left F1 the sport lost a great driver who gave us some great entertainment and skill since he arrived. He had the potential to become champion, the moves he made against Schumacher in his debut season in a slower car were amazing. Sadly bad luck and the team and car he was with not getting what it needed at the most important of times just made him miss out.
Montoya coming back to F1 would really be a plus, someone with great talent and character like him is worth watching
Ferrari should pay another team to give JPM a seat in one of their cars. Montoya was a close racer and bound to get that close to a Ferrari that the FIA could penalizate them and give some more points to Massa.
"He was one of the best overtakers in the history of the sport, with a rare gift for improvisation and a hard-nosed approach to racing. He was one of the few drivers who had what it takes to beat Michael Schumacher in a straight fight".
Wow I never realised how much F1 has missed this guy. He drives that car like a jet and it was a Williams aswell. Right now people brag on about Hamilton and how hes so great but hes in the fastest car. JPM competed with Schumacher and Barrichello with a much inferior drive and they were almost invincible at the time. Come back Pablo!!!
montoya don´t need nascar....nascar cars are tractors (turtles).......he need real cicuits, real cars (mercedes, bmw...etc), in nascar cars the ligths are stickers.....jajaj lol lol lol who is kile bush??? who is dale??? who is martin truex??? I KNOW RAIKKONEN, HAMILTON, SCHUMACHER, MONTOYA...
NASCAR IS A NIGHTMARE...ligths are stickers???? lol lol MONTOYA COME BACK TO F1...PLEASE...
The song says everything about Montoya: Entertainment.
I wasn't a big fan of him, but my god he had huge balls. He darred to overtake en take risks like no other, it wasn't always that smart, but at least it was entertaining to look at.
I miss him 2, but I thing that since he is in Nascar, he has made it happy, but it wasn´t bored before he were in Nascar, is just thst he has given another sense to Nascar.
montoya was the best thing to happen to f1. love or hate him (micheal schumacher hated him :) ) you had to admire his commitment and skill when driving.
Montoya is a great driver.....but he is to furious to be good as Michael Schumacher or Kimi Raikonnen.....in one on one fights I thing is is the best of all drivers
at williams jpm had a fast engine, but the engine wouldn't last the whole race. plus he had a p.u.s.s.y. for boss in frank williams and they never wanted him to be the #1 driver , hence they always gave him the wrong race strategy(tyres, pits stops, etc.) and yet he managed to put up th fastest lap at imola.!!!
I've never been a Montoya fan, rather the contrary. But actually I have to say that he brought some colour into always politically correct Formula 1. Without him it's a bit less exciting.
yes he's very good....he had a decent shot at winning f1 championship in 2003 but was given a penelaty at the a bad time in us gp and also his engine expired when he had lead in japan last race
montoyawas the best overtaker but he didn´t won World Championships so what he got bad car but he did a good job on track i think he was f1 legend just like senna pique and so one
Yes, i agree that he`s a legend. No one can drive like he do... Every type of car! Most of F1 drivers knows only to drive with semi-do-nothing controls, but he is driving everything...
Montoya is maybe the last one of the "oversteerers", just like another awesome drivers as Gilles, Peterson, Piquet and so. A complete daredevil, always running a centimeter out of track, using most than another.
Today it's lost. Maybe next year, with traction control banned, we could see people like them.

hristoitchov 2 years ago

montoya was one of the great talents in racing. what he did in champ car and the short time in f1 was amazing. but to go to nascar was just a waste of immense talent. he could have possibly been world champion, instead he went to be a pawn in the game of nascar.

montoya is an awsome driver! w00t!
DaB34st97 3 years ago
by the way, ferrari was stupid not to get their hands on him, montoya/shummi duo would have been awesome.
DaB34st97 3 years ago
The reason they didn't get him is because they need a driver who would help Shummi wi and not compete with him.

The best driver ever past in the F1, in this decade. Next dacade Hamilton.
TRITANIA99 3 years ago 3
Ferrari should pay another team to give JPM a seat in one of their cars. Montoya was a close racer and bound to get that close to a Ferrari that the FIA could penalizate them and give some more points to Massa.

I +1 everyone who wants Montoya back in F1 haha superb driver fun to watch.

BBC Motorsport, Wednesday, 12 July 2006.
"He was one of the best overtakers in the history of the sport, with a rare gift for improvisation and a hard-nosed approach to racing. He was one of the few drivers who had what it takes to beat Michael Schumacher in a straight fight".
buzonperiodista 3 years ago 16

Those were the good old days. Now NASCAR is more of a snooze than when Shumacher dominated F1.

The song says everything about Montoya: Entertainment.
I wasn't a big fan of him, but my god he had huge balls. He darred to overtake en take risks like no other, it wasn't always that smart, but at least it was entertaining to look at.
I miss him in F1...

Montoya is a great driver.....but he is to furious to be good as Michael Schumacher or Kimi Raikonnen.....in one on one fights I thing is is the best of all drivers
Celtotti 3 years ago 4
at williams jpm had a fast engine, but the engine wouldn't last the whole race. plus he had a p.u.s.s.y. for boss in frank williams and they never wanted him to be the #1 driver , hence they always gave him the wrong race strategy(tyres, pits stops, etc.) and yet he managed to put up th fastest lap at imola.!!!
alvaropineros 3 years ago 2
I've never been a Montoya fan, rather the contrary. But actually I have to say that he brought some colour into always politically correct Formula 1. Without him it's a bit less exciting.

caleisgay 3 years ago 3
He is the most versatile driver ever. Has won at least a race in:
F3000
CART
IRL (indy 500)
F1
Nascar
But people dont realize he is actually better than any caterogy heroe.
ben2mx 4 years ago 10
yes he's very good....he had a decent shot at winning f1 championship in 2003 but was given a penelaty at the a bad time in us gp and also his engine expired when he had lead in japan last race

indd, i've seen that season as well. it was to bad he didn't get that champ.

montoyawas the best overtaker but he didn´t won World Championships so what he got bad car but he did a good job on track i think he was f1 legend just like senna pique and so one
loh112 4 years ago 7
What a driver!! i miss him in F1
ZanttiGP2 4 years ago
Yes, i agree that he`s a legend. No one can drive like he do... Every type of car! Most of F1 drivers knows only to drive with semi-do-nothing controls, but he is driving everything...
Grum1987 4 years ago 2
Montoya is maybe the last one of the "oversteerers", just like another awesome drivers as Gilles, Peterson, Piquet and so. A complete daredevil, always running a centimeter out of track, using most than another.
Today it's lost. Maybe next year, with traction control banned, we could see people like them.

montoya a legend? well... everytime he crashed it was someone else's fault... he hasn't achieved too much in F1 ... except the hate of
