When I was a kid I remember a few of these landing in Sunset Park. Someone referred to them as King Homers and they were huge. Anyway, the Ecuadorian family that lived on the corner took them in. A few weeks later asked to see them and I was told they had used them to make soup. That really sucked.
I wonder if females do this mating dance. Because the pet store told me how to check if your bird is a male or female. It's under the breast bone towards the bottom of the body. If you feel two pieces of cartilage, it's a female. One solid cartilage, male.
So can it be possible for a female to do the dance?

i have two doves, one is a little older than the other, and the older one jumps at the other and does that dance, but the other bird tries its best to get away. my younger dove is walking on my keyboard right now...its so cute!
