  • paul the genius in the beatles

  • Sir Paul, simply great as usual. MASTERMIND.

  • Paul did a lot of the solo singing for the beatles. But he and John wrote most of their songs together. this one is a solo. Paul's songs had a different lighter quality than John's more deep music. they are two of our huge talents from the whole century. it so awesome to read all of your comments and that this generation is enjoying their great music!!

  • @kattmassey It's a misconception that Paul wrote the "pop" songs while Lennon wrote the serious ones. Have you listened to Eleanor Rigby or Helter Skelter lately? I don't think any Beatles song is "more deep" than Eleanor Rigby. I don't think Helter Skelter has a "lighter quality" at all. They were both great songwriters whose music cannot be stereotyped.

  • THIS IS PAUL.

  • I love this version! To my opinion, it's far better than the official release by Badfinger.

  • A great demo by Macca! He gave this song to Badfinger to help launch their career. Badfinger reworked it a little in the studio, but Paul told them that AFTER they make it big, they can rewrite whatever they want. But for this song, Paul insisted that they play it EXACTLY the way Paul (and The Beatles) did the demo. Paul guaranteed Badfinger it would be a hit, and he was right!

  • Anyone else first hear this song in "The Magic Christian"?

  • on my death bed i always expected to hear

    the bagpipes, or this song

  • this is no fake paul wrote it and played all instruments alone on it when he was still in the beatles i seen paul play it live 3 days ago at his concert in manchester men arena it was great

  • @TheScouserkidda also paul played alone on yesterday and thats a beatles song

  • @TheScouserkidda you sir, are scouse.

  • Technically is this really The Beatles? It's just Paul singing and playing the instruments all by his lone self. Then again so was "Eleanor Rigby" so I suppose one person can the Beatles be.

  • i thought i would never hear paul sing this! just cool!!

  • @desamator11 He performed this at his recent O2 concert in London. It was AMAZING!

  • it is good but a little shallow - needs more John Lennon.

  • If you think this fake, please check out The Beatles Anthology 3; Your welcomed in advance!

  • Wow! I've been a fan of this song since I watched the Magic Christian when I was about 5 years old. Thank you for uploading this, sir! I knew the background of the song with good'ole Paul helping out Badfinger, and a number of other bands, but I didn't know this was out there.

  • Oh man, he doesn't do it any less good at all. With back up and more music, there's no reason this couldn't've gone on Let It Be or Hey Jude.

  • As I understand it from his official biography, Paul wrote and cut this recording at home and then brought it in to play expressly for Badfinger. He introduced it as a number one to the band. They had the idea that they would take the song and make it their own via change in arrangement, etc. to which McCartney demonstratively commanded that the song must be played exactly as it was on his demo recording. He knew that the tune as heard here, would be a guaranteed # 1. He was right!

  • @chungiemunchin so, is paul playing drums on this demo? He does play drums and to me it doesn't quite sound like ringo

  • @chungiemunchin That's the story exactly as I've read it as well.

  • The Magic Christian... WATCH IT.

  • LOVED this song when he played this in Paris last wednesday ! Best live ever ! thank you Paul I love you

  • Genuine McCartney and given to Badfinger, Apple etc etc. Both are Great.

  • If this is a fake as some suggest, it's a bloody good one! That piano is perfect.

  • @Boingusboingus if some people suggest it's a fake, just needs to check the setlist of paul's on the run tour. he is playing it.

  • @Boingusboingus no way this is a fake. I have been listening to the beatles since 1964.....I would bet money it is not a fake

  • This IS Paul McCartney's demo of this song, which he wrote. He gave it to Badfinger and told them to do it just like the demo. They smartly did so. Thanks for posting this, I have it on a bootleg..........

  • of course is Paul! yesterday he sang it in bologna, and this is Paul =)

  • I don't know why people say this doesn't sound like Paul ... it does really. It may not suit his views, but it is him who wrote and sung it here.

  • No Way, the more I listen the less it sounds like Mcrtney or any of the Beatles

  • That really does not sound like the Beatles at all. That lead voice does not belong to any Beatle

  • @Logoned ok. does the version paul is ACTUALLY PLAYING on his On The Run tour, sounds as Beatles for you?

  • This is NOT the Beatles.

  • @katex1234 yes it is. go and hear paul playing it in his new tour.

  • Damn, this should have been the third track on Abbey Road, instead of Paul's detestable Maxwell's Silver Hammer.

  • yeah sure

  • i love george hes to cute but 0:25 * paulgasm * what is up with the stickers that says " to hell with the beatles "at 1:29 lol

  • @ 1:48 - who's taller, John or Paul?

  • @frokenstein ringo

  • @sartung the little short 1 is ringo....

  • @frokenstein It looks like Paul.

  • @frokenstein George, John, and Paul are the same size (they're 5"11) But ringo is 5"8...lol, Ringo is the little one :3

  • Might I postulate an alternative theory old chaps? Do you recall Peter Noone? I didn't thinks so, Herman and the Hermits. The most popular rock band in 1965. A catchy little tune that gives a slight jab at the establishment, but nothing compared to what they did later. I thank god they did not take their managers advice to give the people what they think they want, like Simon Cowell who tells you what you want to hear! Art must come from the heart!

  • Badfinger was supposed to be the next Beatles. Due too poor management and the death of the singer (Hayme? spell check). They became one of the biggest bands, under the Apple Record label.

  • Paul played drum, piano, and bass..and possibly the tambourine...no other Beatles were present

  • Hmm! who did this 1st, the Beatles or Bad Finger?...sounds better whatever when Bad finger sang it...at least hearing from Paul here...

  • @artistonhpvs: Paul made this demo for Badfinger. He told Badfinger to sing it exactly like this and they'll have a hit and they did!

  • I love this song, idgaf if it sounds "unbeatle-ish"

  • This song would had fit perfectly in Abbey Road after Polythene Pam

  • @olderspoonman Yes it would!

  • I drop it from E to D# to avoid the strain on my vocal cords. the badfinger version must be in D#

  • thanks for posting this, It's really cool to hear Paul singing his demo of this song wich he generously gave away to Badfinger.Paul knew Peter Ham and Badfingers talent, and helped make sure we did too!

  • This version by Paul McCartney is available on the Beatles' Anthology CD.

  • This is from anthology 3

  • Yes, this is Paul singing and playing all the instruments. It was recorded as a demo and wounded up with his Badfinger friends which I believe it scored a hit

  • ooohh mmyyy fucking gggggoooddd.... is PAUL u fucking moronssss

  • Sounds like Paul but this song is so unbeatlesy

  • @albuorkka Its Pauls voice double tracked with his own voice rather than John or George..

  • @albuorkka Nothing the beatles made sounded "beatlesy" cause they were so diverse they couldn't be pigeon holed.

  • @FabFM I agree they were diverse but I still think there's a "beatles sound", for example in many songs they have distinct harmony vocals, double tracking, simple lyrics in their early days (lots of words like love, she and yeah), strong drum beat, somewhat long guitar solos, smooth lines between chorus and other verses etc

  • @albuorkka if there was a "beatles sound" then this would fit it with it, it would not be out of place on Abbey Road.

  • It's On Anthology 3 but really sux. It has heavy compression reverb, and the stereo separation is awful. Record this guys for this mix is truly rare

  • thank u I wanted to find a version of paul singing it!

  • This is all paul, he played everything on this track

  • Paaaaaaaauuuuuuuul! <3

  • the voice doesn't sound like Paul to me - but the composition sounds like Paul's

  • @OceanderTethyseus That's Paul, 100% positively. This demo has been around for a long, long time on bootlegs. In fact, there's a copy of this with Tom Evans of Badfinger singing on top of it while he was learning the lyrics.

  • Did i hear you say?

    That

    there must be

    a catch?

    Its Paul, hes harmless

  • ekim90120 feel foolish yet???? hope so......

  • 1:40 GEORGASM!!!!

  • sound very similar to "give ireland back to the irish"

  • i belive he did this demo himself, drums and all.....total talent

  • Gawd, the photo at 0:46!

  • 1:17 paul is dead?

  • @longview1987 Its a joke the beatles did on one of there albums in lue of thoughs who said that if you played it backwards it would play satanic messages, cant remember the album but supposely when played backwards they inposed "Paul is Dead Man, miss em', miss em'"

  • malísimo... es la primera vez que escucho un tema de los beatles tan mal grabado... ¿que es esto?

  • The Magic Christian by Terry Southern. Read it sometime. It's quite different from the later movie in which Ringo was cast. This song is about one Guy Grand who amused himself by using his money to play jokes on people - to make them make fools of themselves.

  • This song is a toss-off for McCartney. Very slight. If it was a major work, you can bet that he would have kept it for the Beatles or himself. Badfinger's "No Matter What", and a couple of their other songs, are far superior.

  • Comment removed

  • dosent sound like him though...it dose, then it dosent. he dosent say gaaa for guy, no what a mean? x

  • I like the pics

  • 0:12 Yeah Paul,go ahead and play your bass like that....

  • @gotmonkey92 Hehe, he's actually tuning it there.

  • @infocus is he?

  • @gotmonkey92 Yep. Check out his right hand, he's tuning, not playing. And he's holding his ear to the body of the instrument to hear and feel the vibrations.

  • @infocus Oh okay. Yeah I didn't see that.

  • Cool

  • 1:48 Is it me,or does it seem like they are pissing on that stage?

  • McCartney (and John) threw away more GREAT songs than anyone could hope to write !

4 Badfinger hits, the Stones' FIRST hit "I Wanna Be Your Man", Peter and Gordon "World Without Love", (Peter Asher being Paul's girlfriend at the time Jane Asher's brother ).... the list goes on.

  • Why on earth would Macca throw this away? He is the greatest songwriter ever, but he hasn't got a good taste to recognize which of his songs are good and which aren't. He recorded "wild honey pie" while he gave this jewel to other people.

  • @Helmut83 He Wanted to help give badfinger their start so he gave them a great song so they can make an impression

  • The greatest song the Beatles never recorded. Should have been their first No.1 of the 1970's, but alas....

  • BEATLES FOREVER!!!

  • i personaly like this better then the badfinger version. but they are both great

  • Not many people realize Ringo s IQ has-been tested as high as79

  • @BrokenneckYgor You are kidding? or not...... ohhh

  • Got to admit not heard this version ..Loved the Badfinger version .. This version is growing on me fast .. Atomic

  • This was never intended to be on Abbey Road. This version was in the Anthology 3 cd and it says he wrote the song for Badfinger (then still using the name The Iveys). He showed up early one morning before the rest of the Beatles and recorded everything by himself in under an hour. (They apparently worked on Sun King in the session later that day)

  • I love the Beatles version more than Badfinger's.

  • excellent. the photographs look as though they're from a personal collection,

  • SONNY!!!!!

  • who is that at the end, george?

  • @chilibro I could be wrong but I think paul's doing everything on this one

  • @chilibro no he is a young Paul McCartney!!!

  • @omarengo its definently george, paul had bushier eye browls

  • @chilibro not really, this is PAUL; i saw this picture in a Paul's special tv, and if you see well this is Paul; i'm sorry but this is Paul and not George!!!

  • How to spell The Beatles: T-H-E B-E-S-T

  • @TheTristanproduction PETE Best?

  • @UglySean NO no no no no! LOL! I meant the Beatles ARE the best! Sorry!

  • This cut is available off of The Beatles Anthology, Volume 3.

  • Both versions, Badfinger's and Paul's, are very good.

It's just a very good song.

Even I would sound good singing it.

Maybe you too. Maybe him too.

  • This is so cool. Had no idea this recording existed. Thanks so much for posting it!

  • Great pictures!

  • SONNY!

  • Hahaha George's face at 0:09

  • Whoever the IDIOT is that it is not Paul McCartney, GO GET YOUR EARS CHECKED. HAVE THE CRAP SUCKED OUT. That is Paul McCartney singing. I agree that the Badfinger guy did a great job.

  • Thats NOT Paul....

  • @johnnymike27 Yes it is.

  • @johnnymike27 He's still alive, go ask him if he did this, lol

  • THIS IS DEFINITLY NOT PAUL MCCARTNEY

IT IS BAD FINGER ----LISTEN TO THE VOICE

  • @ekim10191 This is PAUL MCCARTNEY!! You can`t be much of a beatles expert if you don`t recognize Pauls voice!

  • Paul's bass tone is as obvious as his voice on this track. Wouldn't be surprised if that's him on drums as well.

  • @Bassman968 He`s on drums too!

  • @Bassman968 It is (: he does all the instruments

  • @Yellyist Oh yeah? I offered to eat my hat if it wasn't John Lennon on the chorus of "Changes" by David Bowie. I swear it was either him, or an uncredited version of him, If I had a hat, I'd have to eat it.

  • @scizott It`s Paul McCartney, believe me!!

  • @Yellyist Oh I do. I was just bitching about being told I was wrong about Lennon. If you have time, listen to Changes and when they start the chorus, "Turn and face the strange" [changes] tell me if it sounds like Lennon to you.

  • @scizot John Lennon worked with David Bowie on "Fame" which they wrote together, so it`s not impossible that they worked together on other things as well.

  • @ekim10191 It's Sir Paul.... Tom Evans voice is much better on this song..than paul's

It wouldn't have been bad as a wings song though... It has the wings sound to it to me

It would've been perferct on teh venus& Mars Lp

  • @ekim10191 this is Paul, check The Beatles Anthology 3, it's on it

  • @ekim10191 dude, you're on crack

  • @ekim10191 I think its Paul, well never heard bad finger but Paul have an unique voice, last night i listen this at the radio about 4:04 am (at that time start raining :D ) well i write some lyrics because i dont know what song was it, just about 4 minutes ago now, i know that this song is from the beatles...it surprise me a lot dude.

  • Wow, the echo/reverb on this one (on the Anthology 3 version) is completely gone! Much drier sound, and I feel like he's actually in the studio playing in front of me!

  • pretty crazy how Paul was so good he could just give away hits to other bands

  • Great pics !

  • DIHDAYEHEARYOOHSAY!!

  • never heard this version - thanks for posting!

  • @michel031257 is rather good mix...

  • Tom Evans put Paul to shame.

  • @79goldmaster1 In your own opinion.

  • @dmenkhau in your wrong* opinion

  • @Gnomitolindo How is an opinion wrong? Opinions aren't facts. Speaking of facts, get them right.

  • @dmenkhau opinions aren't facts -----> is that a fact or an opinion?

  • @Gnomitolindo That's an opinion I happen to posses. You should be totally fine with that or else you're a hypocrit.

  • @79goldmaster1

I hope you're referring just to this song, and not musically in general

  • @79goldmaster1 you are putting yourself in shame

  • @Gnomitolindo I am a big Beatle fan.....I read that Macca thought the song fit Evans voice very well...Paul was right ,as usual, ....Come and get it became a great hit!

  • @79goldmaster1 as would have been if paul released it by himself. anyway we obviously have different notions of what it is to get a song to work.

  • @Gnomitolindo Paul certainly wasn't greedy .....shared his talent.

  • Badfinge'rs cover i=of this song is much better

  • @Freyja1133 another one..

  • @Freyja1133 It`s just a fucking demo man, i`m sure Paul would have made a great version of it if he had recorded it! It would have been great on "McCartney" or "Ram"

  • @Yellyist Geez ,I Know that it's only a demo...

This would've been great as a trak on the ram lp

  • @Freyja1133 It's almost exactly the same. Infact badfinger were told to play it exactly the same as this demo except for the added harmonies they put in.

  • @wwekane2468 Seems to me that PAul Was Bossy with more than the other beatles...he was very bossy with Badfinger also

  • why does he not release all this material soon his voice now is not the same age takes its toll and his new stuff not as good as all this on youtube

  • Is this really purely paul or did some of the others play on this.

  • @hotwells45 Purely Paul

  • Tell that to the makers of the board game Beatlemania. It is Lennon and McCartney that wrote it. Beatle Tracks a Beatle cover band asked that question on April 30th and they also said that it is Lennon and McCartney that wrote the song for badfinger.

  • I loved the picture of Ringo as a Mariachi!!! Thank you Ringo it is indeed a marvellous suit!! But anyway I think this song should've been another smash hit by The Beatles and in this demo eventhough Paul's voice is awesome, I really missed John's and George's harmonies!

    . :)

  • This is WAY better than the ridiculously doctored-up, reverb-drenched remix that appeared on Anthology 3.

  • Comment removed

  • John Lennon and Paul McCartney wrote this song and No Matter What for Badfinger. Both songs were maid before Abbey Road was in production. It is a question in the Beatlemania board game. It did not fade out at all from popularity it is still popular today.

  • @SS4Gweedo This is a solo McCartney composition that he gave to Badfinger. Pete Ham wrote "No Matter What" Get it straight now!

  • @SS4Gweedo ..."maid before".... Sorry, but that was the LOL of the night!

  • John Lennon and Paul McCartney wrote this song and No Matter What for Badfinger. Both songs were maid before Abbey Road was in production. It is a question in the Beatlemania board game.

  • What a great song. Too bad Paul gave this one away but good to hear his take on it.

  • How fun was that? Thanks for showing!

  • Cool underrated song

  • Ringo Mariachiii!! XD

  • Some pictures in this made me laugh so hard:)

  • Thank you very much.

You helped me a lot ^_^

  • Can someone please tell me who the person from 1:06 - 1:08 is?

  • @AyuLIN The chin says John to me
