Ringos drumming is unique. without him the beatles wouldn´t have been the same. He is not the best, but he is the best of all. Love Ringo and his drumming
Anyone who thinks Ringo is a bad drummer obviously doesn't know that much about music. The beatles needed a solid, tight backbeat for their stuff, Ringo provided that very nicely . . . . . . . .
You say Hannah Montana, I say The Rolling Stones
You say Owl City, I say Led Zeppelin
You say Jonas Brothers, I say The Beatles
You say Justin Bieber, I say Queen
You say Taylor Swift, I say AC/DC
95% of teens these days listen to the same crappy pop over and over again. If you're one of the 5% who still listens to real music, thumb this up, then copy & paste it to at least five videos. Don't let rock n roll die
ringo sure isn't a technical player, but he made up some awesome grooves back in the day. It's one thing to play a few technical beats or fills, and another to make up grooves that add texture and feel to a song. Even mike portnoy likes him, and most of these technical players enjoy what he did.
Ringo's personalty outshone his drumming ability by far, this also tied into the sacking of Pete Best as they wanted a lively character opposed to Best's quiet moody demeanor, the only reason he gets this cool credibility is by being a former member of the Beatles, its like that phrase "Ringo wasn't the best drummer of the 60's, he wasn't even the best drummer in The Beatles".
Jesus christ the man couldnt hear when they performed live, you try playing with 80,000 fans screaming in your face without fallback speakers and c if you can do it! he always said he couldnt do anything clever live cause he couldnt hear. he just had to keep the beat...listen to she said she said and rain and see if many drummers can do that nowadays, I rest my case...
It's always been my opinion that Ringo was a much, much better drummer than many people give him credit for. Instead of criticizing him for not sounding like any other drummer, just stop and listen to his work: His rhythm and timing are impeccable; you defininately can't fault his "ear" for tuning the kit; and watch the DVD of his first appearances on the Sullivan show, and watch his hi-hat work on "This Boy". He's the guy that tightened up a good band and helped make them great.
truely a genius drummer. people keep talking about technique, but i'm sure there are guitarists today that play better than jimmy hendrix. still dosent make them better musicians. it's all about the music. with all the techniqual flourishes we hear today, i still havent haven't heard any drummer make "music" in the melodic sense quite like he does. no doubt the beatles woudnt have come where they have musically or been the phenomenon they were culturally without him.
he has a signature style, so that's what sets him apart. it's not about technical abilities...a lot of terrific musicians don't have the best technical abilities. hell, billy holiday-perhaps the greatest female jazz singer-only had a vocal range of about an octave.
ringo made up hundreds of drums beats for different songs that are all completely unique... his son just plays other bands drums... not to mention ringo didn't have arguable the best drummer in the world (keith moon) teaching him since he was a very young child, Ringo had to teach himself everything... once his son makes up some good songs on drums i might believe you.. but till then ringo is still a better drummer...
No, Ringo was not a technical whiz, but you could not have been the drummer for the Beatles when you were twelve. Even those crazy assed kids you see doing the jazz solos couldn't do the job, because they're overplaying morons who wouldn't know rock'n'roll if it kicked them in the arse.
been a big fan of ringo drumming very unique style plus i recommend people getting the Beatles re masted box set his drumming sound awesome.
ringo wasn't a technical drummer but he was good at following a band and that's the most important part of a band who wants a drummers who can pull off a million roles a song that type of drummer would have never worked in The Beatles.
Maybe Ringo isn't the best drummer, but deffinitely he is one of the best.the only reason why some stupid fucking ignorants think that he si poor is just becouse he wasn't show of and didn't play as fast as he could. And he could, bealive me! After so many years playing on drums he could play anythig! In my opinion his drumming is awesome and fucking good. His songs are dificult to play.Much more difficult than the songs playd by "great" drummers.
Ringo is Ringo. If you replaced him with Dave Weckl or Mike Portnoy on the Beatles stuff, it would probably make me regurgitate my food. Are there better drummers technically? Yes. Is Ringo crap? No. Would the Beatles be the Beatles without him? No. Most of you sound like you are 13, I suggest doing a little more research and gaining a little more experience before you open your mouths.
Ringo's drumming for the music is a good fit, just the way Max Weinberg of the E Street band was a good fit for them. Actually, Max Weinberg said that Ringo was his greatest influence for syle. He mentioned Ticket to Ride as an example.
the whole reason he's famous is because he was part of one of the most successful bands in the world - and he was known then for his medioca drumming.
yeah really. I seriously played shit like that my first few days of drumming. I mean shit listen hes just hitting the bass on 1,2,3,4 and just hitting the snare now and then with a tom roll.
well look at it this way, ringo set the boundaries for the rock beat. he kept it simple. which branched off into many different kinds of drumming styles. even so, look at some of the most influential bands ever, for example the Ramones. they started the entire genre of punk music. and tommys basic idea for a drum beat was take what ringo did, and speed it up.
you are one clueless bastard. show me what you would play that is better than the original Beatle records? You couldn't do it, and most drummers "in the know" about Ringo will tell you that.
your just plain stupid dude....ringo was a great drummer....beatles music didnt require a flash drummer....lennon had a drummer on one of solo albums who tried to play complex parts and lennon got pissed and said....stop that fancy shit and play like ringo...
he has good skill though..remember they threw out somebody else just to get ringo into the beatles..so his skill is obviously very appreciated..he can play anything
they actually threw the other guy out because their manager didn't like his hair cut, but idc, Ringo's drumming was perfect for the time and the music IMO anyways!
In fact, probably he's on the the top 10 drummers in history because that ´´most successful band´´ was successful because of the brilliance performance of EACH member. ´´If you have a kiking drummer, you'll have a kicking band´´ someone said. Also, the brilliance in the hand technique of Ringo was remarkable. He had some solid fingers, and his breaks were absolutely original and crazy. Anyway, RINGO ROCKS SO HARD!
It shows how pathetic people are when they think Pete Best is better than Ringo. If that's true then he would be one of the greatist drummers of all time and would have gotten a reputation. Come on people, if PB were great, it would be known, but it is known that he is not worthy of mentioning. PB is below average and only his name is keeping him afloat and drawing crowds. It's an illusion. I feel sorry for the band bc they can't fire him.
ya i'm pretty sure john lennon never said that.... in everything that i've ever read it's said that the reason they gave pete best the boot was because he was such a shitty drummer and ringo was a pretty established drummer in liverpool at the time.
listen to the beatles.. ringo was definately before his time.. awesome drummer.. i agree he's not the best in the world but he is definately a pioneer when it comes to the drums

Anybody foolish enough to think he can't drum listen to Paperback Writer, She said she said, or Tomorrow Never Knows. It's a waste of time, that whole argument. The beatles hired him because he was a good, professional drummer, no other reason.
In one of his more enlightening quotes John Lennon explained it all...'Pete Best was a better drummer but Ringo was a better Beatle' --- I think that sums it up....they hired him not just because he was a cool pro but because he fit in to the Beatle's Hamburg/Partying lifestyle at the time...
