  • Ringos drumming is unique. without him the beatles wouldn´t have been the same. He is not the best, but he is the best of all. Love Ringo and his drumming

  • amazing.

  • RINGO`is ~RINGO~!!!!!~~~

  • Anyone who thinks Ringo is a bad drummer obviously doesn't know that much about music. The beatles needed a solid, tight backbeat for their stuff, Ringo provided that very nicely . . . . . . . .

  • You say Lady Gaga, I say Guns N' Roses

You say Hannah Montana, I say The Rolling Stones

You say Owl City, I say Led Zeppelin

You say Jonas Brothers, I say The Beatles

You say Justin Bieber, I say Queen

You say Taylor Swift, I say AC/DC

95% of teens these days listen to the same crappy pop over and over again. If you're one of the 5% who still listens to real music, thumb this up, then copy & paste it to at least five videos. Don't let rock n roll die

  • @roclorio Good for you little man.

  • ringo sure isn't a technical player, but he made up some awesome grooves back in the day. It's one thing to play a few technical beats or fills, and another to make up grooves that add texture and feel to a song. Even mike portnoy likes him, and most of these technical players enjoy what he did.

  • Fantastic, Ringo's drumming has had the biggest impact on popular music, no one else is even in the conversation.

  • Ringo's personalty outshone his drumming ability by far, this also tied into the sacking of Pete Best as they wanted a lively character opposed to Best's quiet moody demeanor, the only reason he gets this cool credibility is by being a former member of the Beatles, its like that phrase "Ringo wasn't the best drummer of the 60's, he wasn't even the best drummer in The Beatles".

  • Jesus christ the man couldnt hear when they performed live, you try playing with 80,000 fans screaming in your face without fallback speakers and c if you can do it! he always said he couldnt do anything clever live cause he couldnt hear. he just had to keep the beat...listen to she said she said and rain and see if many drummers can do that nowadays, I rest my case...

  • It's always been my opinion that Ringo was a much, much better drummer than many people give him credit for. Instead of criticizing him for not sounding like any other drummer, just stop and listen to his work: His rhythm and timing are impeccable; you defininately can't fault his "ear" for tuning the kit; and watch the DVD of his first appearances on the Sullivan show, and watch his hi-hat work on "This Boy". He's the guy that tightened up a good band and helped make them great.

  • Ringo is a kick ass drummer!!! :3 If anyone hates him..they don't know shit about drumming!!!

  • truely a genius drummer. people keep talking about technique, but i'm sure there are guitarists today that play better than jimmy hendrix. still dosent make them better musicians. it's all about the music. with all the techniqual flourishes we hear today, i still havent haven't heard any drummer make "music" in the melodic sense quite like he does. no doubt the beatles woudnt have come where they have musically or been the phenomenon they were culturally without him.

  • he has a signature style, so that's what sets him apart. it's not about technical abilities...a lot of terrific musicians don't have the best technical abilities. hell, billy holiday-perhaps the greatest female jazz singer-only had a vocal range of about an octave.

  • his son zak starkey is by far better

  • So Zak is better because he's playing Keith Moon's drum parts? LMAO!

  • @SkullPwnIndustries72 isnt he the new drummer of the who

  • yes ringo's son is the whos drummer now.. he was taught how to play drums by the whos original drummer...

  • @jelloskater Zak is the dummer for oasis as well

  • ringo made up hundreds of drums beats for different songs that are all completely unique... his son just plays other bands drums... not to mention ringo didn't have arguable the best drummer in the world (keith moon) teaching him since he was a very young child, Ringo had to teach himself everything... once his son makes up some good songs on drums i might believe you.. but till then ringo is still a better drummer...

  • @byecricketboy exsacly! dont give him thumbs down

  • Your hyperbole does you no favours.

No, Ringo was not a technical whiz, but you could not have been the drummer for the Beatles when you were twelve. Even those crazy assed kids you see doing the jazz solos couldn't do the job, because they're overplaying morons who wouldn't know rock'n'roll if it kicked them in the arse.

  • been a big fan of ringo drumming very unique style plus i recommend people getting the Beatles re masted box set his drumming sound awesome.

ringo wasn't a technical drummer but he was good at following a band and that's the most important part of a band who wants a drummers who can pull off a million roles a song that type of drummer would have never worked in The Beatles.

  • you the best ringo

  • Ringo: Simple, sober, delicate, humble, sophisticated and unique...

So many drummers in the world pay tribute to this Historic musician man...

I`m just want to say: Nice and well done, mate!!!!

  • Maybe Ringo isn't the best drummer, but deffinitely he is one of the best.the only reason why some stupid fucking ignorants think that he si poor is just becouse he wasn't show of and didn't play as fast as he could. And he could, bealive me! After so many years playing on drums he could play anythig! In my opinion his drumming is awesome and fucking good. His songs are dificult to play.Much more difficult than the songs playd by "great" drummers.

  • Epic.

    That. Was. Epic.

    Huggles to Ringo!

  • ringo is the best!!

  • I agree

  • I was there! =D

  • his the best!!!!!!!!!

  • RINGO ROCK'S

  • Ringo is Ringo. If you replaced him with Dave Weckl or Mike Portnoy on the Beatles stuff, it would probably make me regurgitate my food. Are there better drummers technically? Yes. Is Ringo crap? No. Would the Beatles be the Beatles without him? No. Most of you sound like you are 13, I suggest doing a little more research and gaining a little more experience before you open your mouths.

  • Word!

  • Ringo!!:p

  • ringo is the best drummer!!! Hes so hot!!!

    I LOVE RINGO!!!

  • ringo rocks trust me.

  • you know zip about good drumming, an your ignorance is amazing.

  • Ringo's drumming for the music is a good fit, just the way Max Weinberg of the E Street band was a good fit for them. Actually, Max Weinberg said that Ringo was his greatest influence for syle. He mentioned Ticket to Ride as an example.

  • ringo is a good drummer, but not that good.

he's definately not one of the top 50 drummers

the whole reason he's famous is because he was part of one of the most successful bands in the world - and he was known then for his medioca drumming.

  • yeah really. I seriously played shit like that my first few days of drumming. I mean shit listen hes just hitting the bass on 1,2,3,4 and just hitting the snare now and then with a tom roll.

  • your right, ringo's drumming is very basic and the only reason he was a beatle was because his drumming was distinctive

  • that is the brilliance of ringo

  • well look at it this way, ringo set the boundaries for the rock beat. he kept it simple. which branched off into many different kinds of drumming styles. even so, look at some of the most influential bands ever, for example the Ramones. they started the entire genre of punk music. and tommys basic idea for a drum beat was take what ringo did, and speed it up.

  • you are one clueless bastard. show me what you would play that is better than the original Beatle records? You couldn't do it, and most drummers "in the know" about Ringo will tell you that.

  • your just plain stupid dude....ringo was a great drummer....beatles music didnt require a flash drummer....lennon had a drummer on one of solo albums who tried to play complex parts and lennon got pissed and said....stop that fancy shit and play like ringo...

  • he has good skill though..remember they threw out somebody else just to get ringo into the beatles..so his skill is obviously very appreciated..he can play anything

  • they actually threw the other guy out because their manager didn't like his hair cut, but idc, Ringo's drumming was perfect for the time and the music IMO anyways!

  • @SuperChuck3

It was because he was a lousy drummer, and the girls liked him more than the other Beatles. His name was Pete best.

  • exactly the way i think :P

  • In fact, probably he's on the the top 10 drummers in history because that ´´most successful band´´ was successful because of the brilliance performance of EACH member. ´´If you have a kiking drummer, you'll have a kicking band´´ someone said. Also, the brilliance in the hand technique of Ringo was remarkable. He had some solid fingers, and his breaks were absolutely original and crazy. Anyway, RINGO ROCKS SO HARD!

  • It shows how pathetic people are when they think Pete Best is better than Ringo. If that's true then he would be one of the greatist drummers of all time and would have gotten a reputation. Come on people, if PB were great, it would be known, but it is known that he is not worthy of mentioning. PB is below average and only his name is keeping him afloat and drawing crowds. It's an illusion. I feel sorry for the band bc they can't fire him.

  • the master drummer ringo!!!^_^

  • nice vid

  • Actually, he is pretty good. There's more to him than just average beats. Listen to his fills in songs.

    They're pretty freakin' amazing.

  • ringo starr IS one of the best drummers who have ever lived

  • I love Ringo.

He's awesome, and was perfect for the Beatles. He knew exactly what they needed and managed to play it well.

    <3

  • Technically there is many better drummers than Ringo, but Ringo has got the awesome feeling many drummers hasn't.

  • ya i'm pretty sure john lennon never said that.... in everything that i've ever read it's said that the reason they gave pete best the boot was because he was such a shitty drummer and ringo was a pretty established drummer in liverpool at the time.

  • listen to the beatles.. ringo was definately before his time.. awesome drummer.. i agree he's not the best in the world but he is definately a pioneer when it comes to the drums

  • Ringo, greatest songwriters drummer.Knew instinctively what a track needed.Gave space to the vocals.See "A day in the life" for proof.Early days he drove the songs along open hi hats, Tasteful fills.Later years he allowed the songs to breath.Tuned down skins as integral to Beatles sound as voices.See "Blue jay way".Not many other drummers had to deal with the range of styles the Beatles coverd.A lot of drummers mentioned below are great some were 1 trick ponys but none had Ringo's taste or range.

  • Anybody foolish enough to think he can't drum listen to Paperback Writer, She said she said, or Tomorrow Never Knows. It's a waste of time, that whole argument. The beatles hired him because he was a good, professional drummer, no other reason.

  • Course they did. They also hired him for his dashing good looks.

  • you are right

  • Ringo was the funniest Beatle, in my opinion.

  • In one of his more enlightening quotes John Lennon explained it all...'Pete Best was a better drummer but Ringo was a better Beatle' --- I think that sums it up....they hired him not just because he was a cool pro but because he fit in to the Beatle's Hamburg/Partying lifestyle at the time...

  • tokingreens

Neve heard of that comment from John..anyway I do welcome any article or stuff.. (Although I dont use to believe in comments made by press to be sincere)To the best of my humble knowledge... they didnt like Pete's drumming... he was good but... lacked of that tough bass drum kicking and made poor use of the tom... check out Decca tapes ... and just imagine Ringo drumming on Clarabella, Like dreamers do, Hello little girl &co..

Some said Ringo's 1st jammin was incredible!

    Peace

  • jajajajaja....oh my god! where do you read or hear that??...

if you see the Anthology's dvd, George Martin explain that Pete wasn't a great drummer...just one more....and G. Martin ask to John, Paul and George a better drummer if they want to have an agreetment...so, George, John and Paul began to think in another drummer and in your minds they only could a name, the name of the best drummer in the region..."RINGO STARR"...and not just they believed that, everybody in liverpool knew this fact

  • I LOVE IT!

It's "the end" drum solo ^_^

    I love Rings :)

    He's so freaking awesome :D

  • I'm gonna put the Ringo debate to bed, No he is not technically the best drummer, BUT - he ROCKS and was PERFECT for The Beatles' sound, only an idiot would knock that, 'nuff said ......................

  • i couldnt have said that any better, of course he wasnt the greatest, but he was very good, and oh yea, he was the backbeat of the beatles!

  • AWESOME

  • He's no Bonham, but he did alright for the Beatles.

  • i think was pretty good, not as good as bonham like you said but he did have lots of talent, he just didnt like the big drum solos or fills that bonham did a lot

  • alright john bonham wasnt even that crazy, anyone can play with their hands, and do good triplets and all that jazz

  • Ringo play good triplets to, but only a couple of them in some songs. If the drumming of ringo were recorded like the drumming of Bonham we might estimate better his great performance.

  • amazing!!!do you think he still got nervous like before???

  • RINGO ABSOLUTLY ROCKS!!!!!

  • go ringo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • oh that ringo, always makes a good entrance

  • wOOooOOOO awesome ¡¡¡¡¡

you liverpool guys who were there,

    are so lucky¡¡¡

    =D

    thanks for sharing this

    peace n love¡¡¡

  • Ringo is the best drummer around!

  • reminds me of Taiko drums - SOLID , Solid as a Rock ! Ringo dresses to keep warm, always a priority with him... he can't get a chill...

    My Favorite Beatle !

  • As far as I know, this is the first time he's ever done a drum solo at a concert.

  • Ringo was great, and he'll be great for ever!!! Thanks for sharing this video.

  • 40 years later and he's still playing this solo... He never really liked drum solos when he played with The Beatles.

  • Why didn't he like drum solos?

  • cause he didn't like the "bang bang"-ness of solo drumming. he only really liked to drum when he was playing with other musicians, which is why his older drumming with the Beatles was a little less, well, developed than in records like Rubber Soul and Abbey Road.

  • @Xmenfan246 i guess he was just humble like that

  • @Xmenfan246

Even The End he didn't play a solo. The drum solo we hear was actually recorded with all the beatles playing something and then they muted their instruments so all we could hear were his drums so he is very humble.

  • Yeah, but he knew there would be a solo.

  • @TheWalrus192 I think that's gotten misunderstood over time. He did record a solo but during the over dub process, they played over his solo knowing that the instruments would be muted. Sort of like the vocalist that clears his throat or tries his opening words while the intro is playing. He knows it's going to get wiped or faded down and never be heard. Anyways, with seperation being what it was back then there would be tons of leakage heard during his solo.

  • this isnt even difficult, but that doesnt mean he cannot play difficult drums, he has played a lot of amazing drumlines for the beatles like "a day in the life"

  • Ringo is funny drummer ...

  • I love him to death!)))He doesn't need to do something difficult and technical to drive the crowd crazy.Total superstar!!!

  • YEAH RINGO!!!! BANG THEM DRUMS!!!!!!

  • Wonderful!! It must have been great to be there, just for Ringo!!

  • yeah- thanks a lot!- but its a pity he's only in that tiny little thing...you cant really see HIM...and is that headband to keep all the hair away from his eyes? haha--wonderful solo, though

  • it's a hat - he has to keep warm, see his breath ? it's January -

  • Yeah! Long live Ringo and the Beatles! Awesome drumming! He really is amazing! A bit shaky on the video but I know what a concert can be like. I'm glad you took the time to film it! Thanks a lot for sharing.
