@Normanoise Nice track :) You have overcompressed/distorted the visual though, it's not really 'gliding' any more. Or is it just my internet connection?
@Lucassandro25 Quite a few people on twitter have suggested this is a TGV, but no: it's a British Intercity 125. Nowhere near as fast, but you can open the windows on the doors to stick the camera out!
@inagra Sure, that'd be another (easier?) way to achieve this in HD: arrange a series of cameras along the other platform, fire them all at once, and stitch the results together into one huge panorama. Then just scroll from left to right at a fixed speed, or make a video with a virtual camera doing the same, or print it out, hang it on a wall and walk past...
@StraylightUK But then you wouldnt get the slight hispeed movements of the folks on the platform.
I'm just imagining this kind of thing on a highly crowded platform in India; with tea stalls, porters, lazy dogs, homeless guys sleeping, policemen and travellers.. Wow.
You've got remix this video and add in the Kinks song: This Time Tomorrow from the 0:10 to the 2:05 mark (of the song). It works perfectly. I just played them both together and, aside from the lack of vibrant orange everywhere, it looks like a Wes Anderson clip.
Electric lights are not a constant light. The flicker, especially tungsten, but so fast our eyes don't register them; when slowed down you can see it happen.
Bit like if you watch the news and there is a PC screen on in the background, notice how that flickers as well.

I'm a producer for a new publication called The Daily, the first iPad daily news app. We're looking to put together a series, showcasing great online video. In my search for the best, I came across your slow motion train station video. I was hoping we could talk about showcasing the video well as having you lend some insight into its production and creation.
This was excellent! I really thought it was great. Watching all those people. They almost looked frozen, but that's cliche of me to say. But I thought it was really cool.
@D3rdrake Yeah, I noticed. That's why I embed my website address at the end, although with the even worse quality video and added soundtrack it's not ideal.
@StraylightUK it's all exposure isn't it, at least it'll send some traffic to your site, maybe upload your own version to break.com too? dailymotion? vimeo? smashing idea by the way, I'll have a look at your blog rather than ask about framerates here, good job.
@fooldog01 Exactly so: high speed, high resolution cameras exist - have a look around youtube for footage from the phantom HD - but they're significantly out of my price range!
More pixels would be very nice indeed, but it doesn't help for the people standing close to the train, as they are blurry anyway! If you wanna be able to see details in the faces, HD isn't the solution, but an even shorter shutter time is.
click on the link in the description and read "THE METHOD"
It's 2/7 of a mile(roughly) 1508.5ft, but I would guess more in the 1000~1200ft range as the train is decelerating for most of the film. The film is filmed at 210fps and played back at 30fps, making every 7 seconds of film 1 actual second.
And I just looked that quote up to make sure I had it right, only to find out that the idea was already cliche by the time Shakespeare wrote As You Like It, and that it was probably intended to sound pretentious in its time. Should prolly read that play...
Considering that not many have a frame of reference for this, it's doesn't mean that much. I can see that it is making quite a distance and people are moving very slowly, but I'm not about to approximate distances and times in order to calculate the approximate speed of the train to then have a stake out and measure the average rates people walk or turn their heads, running the approximate speed in proportion against that to give me a relative ratio... I'll just say it's a little bit neat.
Hah, how can people say it's not going that fast, don't they notice that it's almost like everybody is frozen in time, : P, must have been pretty fast.
@afarnesang Well, eventually it stops! Not sure what the arrival speed was: I think the most an intercity on this line can do is 125mph, so it was never in bullet train territory.
lol really cool almost likes as if the station froze for a moment.
