  • lol really cool almost likes as if the station froze for a moment.

  • I recommend this diving video from Norway - Using a Casio Exilim in a "plastic bag": Diving in Norway - Flekkerøy

  • did you use any software on a computer? if so what software?

  • Smoke weed....same effect.

  • How fast were you driving?

  • This should be in 3d

  • what is this????

  • this would make a great music video !

  • @yousony Check out youtube.com/watch?v=DIArJjU8HjE .

  • @yousony It was better than this. check out star guitar by the chemical brothers. An amazing film by Michel Gondry

  • @yousony agreed :-) youtube.com/watch?v=QB2_whXAHLo

  • I loved that light effect at 0:25

  • Time does slow down when you're moving fast :D

  • thats my train station...

  • does anybody know what song this is?

  • Beginning at 0:25 there's a shop with flickering light.

  • wow, how steady you're holding it

  • Very much like bullet time, though with subtle movements. Also, a music video based on this sent me here.

  • I like to watch this with down-beat music. So calming and strangely sad.

  • this is Epic...

  • thiiiiissss iiiiiisssss sooooommmmmeeeee cooooooooolllllll sshhhhiiiittttttt.

  • Bath Spa! I was there yesterday... beautiful footage

  • wow that is cool. what kind of video camera?

  • this could desperately use some music like Explosion in the Sky or something epic like that

  • engadget sent me

  • Hi Graeme we put our own soundtrack on your film check it out on our channel

  • @Normanoise Nice track :) You have overcompressed/distorted the visual though, it's not really 'gliding' any more. Or is it just my internet connection?

  • this is truely awesome

  • Check my profile for this footage with atmospheric music. If you like the music, it is available to download for FREE :)

  • Looks like that old Spike Jonze video.

  • Interesting idea but it got boring after the first few seconds. Can you do it with people who are moving faster?

  • So that's how clark kent views the world...

  • beautiful

  • hish speed camera high speed train, adn slow motion? haha, great

    also : MATRIX !

  • it's funny this is shot at bath spa station as bath is the home of one of the pioneers of time slice/bullet time film, Tim MacMillan

search his name for some amazing slow/no motion videos

  • great job ¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡

  • Amazing !! GR8 !!

  • Cool video.

That blonde girl at :45 is fine as fuck!

  • Mashed in one of my piano tracks - click my account name link to the left to see it.

  • I discovered this because it was on the home page of Yahoo France and in the article they wrote that this was taken from a TGV, is this correct ?

btw: that's a very good idea you had to do this!

  • @Lucassandro25 Quite a few people on twitter have suggested this is a TGV, but no: it's a British Intercity 125. Nowhere near as fast, but you can open the windows on the doors to stick the camera out!

  • wow - nice - I can't believe there is a train station terminal called 'bath spa'!

  • Trip!

    Person's objet!

It's scenery when concentrating very much!

  • So this is how they make those awesome bullet time parts in movies, by filming from a bullet train going 200 mph past the set.

  • What kind of camera was used for this? 210 fps is pretty awesome...

  • neat!

  • Essentially, wouldn't this be the largest photo ever? It can easily be converted into a huge photo...

  • @inagra Sure, that'd be another (easier?) way to achieve this in HD: arrange a series of cameras along the other platform, fire them all at once, and stitch the results together into one huge panorama. Then just scroll from left to right at a fixed speed, or make a video with a virtual camera doing the same, or print it out, hang it on a wall and walk past...

  • @StraylightUK But then you wouldnt get the slight hispeed movements of the folks on the platform.

I'm just imagining this kind of thing on a highly crowded platform in India; with tea stalls, porters, lazy dogs, homeless guys sleeping, policemen and travellers.. Wow.

  • @StraylightUK That's how they did the Matrix. @inagra It's 3D, though, you can't just stitch frames together.

  • @inagra sort of, but the cool effect for me is how the perspective changes while the figures move minimally.

  • @StraylightUK

You've got remix this video and add in the Kinks song: This Time Tomorrow from the 0:10 to the 2:05 mark (of the song). It works perfectly. I just played them both together and, aside from the lack of vibrant orange everywhere, it looks like a Wes Anderson clip.

  • love the 'help' poster at 1:22!

  • why do the lights flicker

  • @almcken

Electric lights are not a constant light. The flicker, especially tungsten, but so fast our eyes don't register them; when slowed down you can see it happen.

Bit like if you watch the news and there is a PC screen on in the background, notice how that flickers as well.

  • with some rolling shutter ;) however, it's looking great!

  • Who the hell would vote thumbs down for this?

  • 懐かしい

    とってもいい雰囲気ですよね

  • 1:30 Old lady scratching her ass.

  • hey that's where i live!!

    Bath:~>

  • Briefcase wanker at 1:26

  • I'm a producer for a new publication called The Daily, the first iPad daily news app. We're looking to put together a series, showcasing great online video. In my search for the best, I came across your slow motion train station video. I was hoping we could talk about showcasing the video well as having you lend some insight into its production and creation.

    Vivek Kemp

    vivek.kemp@thedaily.com

  • To be honest I didn't enjoy it.

After reading what's it all about I thought I would see no movement at all.

  • It becomes a stereoscopic television if it arranges it right and left.

  • So awesome! The only thing missing from the scene is a great spit take...

  • 1:26 NERRRRRRRD

  • @hamneggwich It's Moss from The IT Crowd.

  • @SenatorRiley

    Moss is well fit

  • Grab a lens from a cheap pair of sunglasses, and hold the lens in front of your left eye.

    _Then_ watch this video.

    Instant 3D! Woo yay! :-)

    It's the Pulfrich effect BTW.

  • That is my favorite station!

  • Better no music than something that will ruin the video. BTW Engadget posted this video on their blog too.

  • Haha.. Bath Spa is a relatively local station to me.. I was looking for people I knew.. lol

  • People sure are boring.

  • I'm just glad they didn't put like a Feist song over it...you know?

  • of course a good idea

  • The small bits of motion kinda give me the willies....similar to head turn in "I Am Legend" when Will Smith sees the mannequin out of place.

  • 0.11 Ppl in Arsenal's kits! <3

  • Jason Kottke just posted this. Watch your views go up again :-)

  • @pinguposer Heh, and there was me thinking it had finally run its course...

  • Guy at 1:28 looks like he's drawing a gun, lol

  • Wow, life in slow motion, so much to learn from this, its like a whole new universe, amazing...

I saw one of the shows on discovery channel where they recorded animals in slow motion with high FPS cameras but a lot of it seemed like Cg?

  • This was excellent! I really thought it was great. Watching all those people. They almost looked frozen, but that's cliche of me to say. But I thought it was really cool.

  • Hey, what's Moz from the IT Crowd doing in Bath? (1:25)

  • @ParanoidFool1 I don't Adam and Believe it.

  • Ok, Flashing Lights would be a perfect song for this video, like perfect

  • I just want to say that this works decently as a Pulfrich effect video.

  • very dumb footage

    p.n. watch ...3 milfs at 1:23

  • Someone appears to have stuck this on break.com with some added music.

  • @D3rdrake Yeah, I noticed. That's why I embed my website address at the end, although with the even worse quality video and added soundtrack it's not ideal.

  • @StraylightUK it's all exposure isn't it, at least it'll send some traffic to your site, maybe upload your own version to break.com too? dailymotion? vimeo? smashing idea by the way, I'll have a look at your blog rather than ask about framerates here, good job.

  • Very cool. I assume the high FPS limit the ability to capture in HD. That's the only thing missing.

  • @fooldog01 Exactly so: high speed, high resolution cameras exist - have a look around youtube for footage from the phantom HD - but they're significantly out of my price range!

  • @fooldog01

More pixels would be very nice indeed, but it doesn't help for the people standing close to the train, as they are blurry anyway! If you wanna be able to see details in the faces, HD isn't the solution, but an even shorter shutter time is.

  • This reminds me of when i was up in NYC last summer on the train.

  • the train station spans TWO MILES? the video is 2 mins long and the train is supposedly going 125 mph.....

  • click on the link in the description and read "THE METHOD"

It's 2/7 of a mile(roughly) 1508.5ft, but I would guess more in the 1000~1200ft range as the train is decelerating for most of the film. The film is filmed at 210fps and played back at 30fps, making every 7 seconds of film 1 actual second.

  • @heyimBOBLOBLAW I hate to rain on your crazy parade, but the train isn't doing 125mph. And if it was the station would be 4 miles long.

  • You should use " knaan take a minute" as sound track

  • + yann tiersen.

  • use I love u so by cassius like soundtrack for the video. awesome!!

  • I like it!

  • Definitely want to add music and words to this. :-) Beautiful

  • watch?v=qKMZ2H_a0z8

    perfect background

  • what if u added Lothlorien by Enya ? ^^ Let me know

  • it needs a musical background... I recommend Bang Bang Bang by Mark Ronson & The Business Intl :D

  • im gonna do this i india

  • @brendendas yesssssssssssssssssssssssssss plz

  • @AaronfromQueens ok wait il be gettin a d7000 soon and im goin to new delhi too!! so hopefully in another 1 month :)

  • I like those Arsenal fans @ 0:15.

  • 6 people missed the like button

  • dope!

  • iv been here, beautiful place

  • Lovely. You should add some sound.

    That man at the end looks like his staring! D;

  • Beautiful! Well done...

  • 210 frames per second.. but not HD?

  • Great work, very impressive.

  • Needs music!

  • This reminds me of one of those Physics Thought experiment.

  • Makes me think of the British movie called Cashback

  • Did you have a bath?

  • Aha! It goes well with many songs. I just uploaded a copy with Mindthings- Life Thing's ;)

  • At second roar of the lion press play on Dark side of the moon and it fits perfect!!!!!LOL

  • This video is kind of trippy, and it kind of has a 3D effect going on also. What camera did you use StraylightUK?

  • Great effect... Kinda reminds us of time relativity.

P.S. Let's put some Chemical Brothers with that!

  • wow, the redhead at 0:18 is beautiful.

  • French: Avec une lunette fumée placée en face de votre oeil gauche seulement, vous verrez cette vidéo en 3D.

    English:

With sun glass placed in front of your left eye, you will see this video in 3D

  • HD PLS

  • WOW it's great. From now on I know how to stop time...

  • This could easily be a music video.

  • Looks like a scene from some horror-sci-fi movie!

  • This is a movie set.

  • @workingwithfire5 "All the world's a stage..."

And I just looked that quote up to make sure I had it right, only to find out that the idea was already cliche by the time Shakespeare wrote As You Like It, and that it was probably intended to sound pretentious in its time. Should prolly read that play...

  • 1:26 - 1:32 : guy in the white shirt looks a lot like will from the inbetweeners!

  • Awesome video.. would be kool if you uploaded it at a higher res ^_^

  • Is that Moss on the left at 1:31

  • @drtekrox haha oh yeah

  • Try it with Afraid Of Everyone by The National. By coincide i saw the video that way the fisrt time.

  • tbh if i didnt know this was on a train id be so confused

  • Three thumbs up, loved it. Now hurry up and get out of your fucking recession so I can move over there.

  • Add some explosions and this is a shot from Sherlock Holmes :p

  • This is really cool; I wish it were uploaded at a higher resolution than 360p.

  • I used to get on that train every morning!

  • This synced to Mad World by Gary Jules = Awesome.

  • @tardytim yes it is awesome

  • Do another but get a guy to run in the shot the whole way.

  • We're glad glad glad that you're alive, and we're glad glad glad that you'll arrive, and we're glad glad glad glad glad glad glad...and we're glad glad glad that you're a glide.

  • neato

  • Considering that not many have a frame of reference for this, it's doesn't mean that much. I can see that it is making quite a distance and people are moving very slowly, but I'm not about to approximate distances and times in order to calculate the approximate speed of the train to then have a stake out and measure the average rates people walk or turn their heads, running the approximate speed in proportion against that to give me a relative ratio... I'll just say it's a little bit neat.

  • 1- Go to your iTunes library and find the song 'Bittersweet Symphony' from The Verve

2- Press play on both the video and the song.

    3- Watch and be amazed!

    ~ You're Welcome! ~

  • @daveswife Dude that is freaking amazing!! Everyone should try it!

  • @daveswife

    >assuming we all have the m4aids

  • Mmmm. Thats good B-Roll.

  • you could overlay a dark classical piece over the video, like the intro from "the fall"

  • kurt vonnegut would love this

  • Clever, very clever. A real-life "bullet-time" photographic effect.

Shouldn't be long until we see a music video with this.

  • This is a 17 second video.

  • that's awesome :D really cool effect i think.

  • I dislike this!

  • Fuckin hipters

  • Hah, how can people say it's not going that fast, don't they notice that it's almost like everybody is frozen in time, : P, must have been pretty fast.

  • Could you upload it with original speed? Or at least an approximation? Would like to see how fast that really was...

  • This video needs to have a badass song with it.

  • this almost seems like an advert for something, but is epic nonetheless

  • was that michael jackson sitting on a bench around 1:15?

  • @matthewjonas yes.

  • @matthewjonas Ha, Yeah, and zach galifianakis at 1:31

  • A pity nobody accidentally dropped a cup of coffee. Next time: Stage this and get >9000 times the views.

  • Hi speed camera hi speed train. done.

  • Doesn't look like the train is going very fast to be quite honest...

  • @afarnesang Well, eventually it stops! Not sure what the arrival speed was: I think the most an intercity on this line can do is 125mph, so it was never in bullet train territory.

  • @StraylightUK

how long was the video footage in real time?

  • @StraylightUK Nice video! Dunno what the speed through the stations are, maybe 40-50mph?

  • HIGH RES PLEASE!
