I did hear it coming thats why I ran but the jolt was definately there halfway through my run!!

It weird seeing the different movement. At my house it started with a HUGE jolt that made me instantly get to the doorway, I didn't need to stand around for a second to know it was huge...

the video goes for 18 seconds, pretty much that it was really quick this time. Lots of aftershocks though

what was the duration of the earthquake?

@hawkhunter2487 it depends on where you were. People nearer the epicentre would've felt a large, quick, sharp jolty earthquake that lasted only maybe 7 - 10 seconds. But further out like in the city centre and out at kaiapoi, the earthquake wouldn't have jolted as strongly, some may have even heard it coming, and it would've lasted for longer. Which sounds bad, but it wouldn't have been felt with the same strength.
