  • . I have often thought, this guy has a built in musical scale tuned

to perfection. Obviiously, he can hear vocal harmonies when he bangs out a tune

on the piano. He is a once in a lifetime musical legend, you can't

even try to duplicate. I truly hope he is enjoying the unbelievable appreciation

of his musical talents. Too bad Carl and Dennis are not able to share in the ongoing

love his music exhibits; The Four Freshmen are the first to admit, he took their sound

and grew it 100 times over.

  • I hope I'm not the only who is truly melted away from just listening to those close incredibly beautiful harmonies.. I like this version a whole lot better than the studio version, they sing with a lot of power and heart, especially Brian at 0:45. Bands like this are once in a lifetime, and with how music is going how it is these days, it'll be a real shame when music is taken over my non-talent junk, no emotion or feeling songs, and bands and groups who only want money. Sorry, just ranting.. :|

  • @grantaldn Agreed wholeheartedly

  • I have heard Brian Wilson use the term blown away . He cannot imagine how often we use the term to describe what his songs do to us. My first BB concert was in 1963 in Des Moines, Iowa. 50 years of loving their songs!

  • @edwindonaldsnider you lucky, lucky person. I can not express my envy enough. haha

  • In my humble opinion, I believe that Brian Wilson is a GENIUS!!!Being a harmony man myself,The Beach Boys, along with The Mamas and The Papas,The Temptations, The Beatles and the doo wop groups of the 50's were a great influence on me!!

  • One of my all-time Hidden Classics from BW & The Boys; a vocal masterpiece, & the flip side of " Do You Wanna Dance? " Wolfsky9

  • No other band and I would say it again in my next lifetime - NO OTHER BAND can sing this way. there is only one band who produces heavenly harmonies like this one and that's The BEACH BOYS. Love them even though I am just a daughter of a baby boomer and not one of them.

  • Gorgeous vocal arrangements, such understated power in the vocals.

  • I grew up in Southern California during the 60s, and Beach Boys songs were the background music, booming from the car radios of hundreds of thousands of teens.

Don't worry baby, we got around.

  • It is brillant...this was the main vein in the progression of the Beach Boys and especially Brian...enjoy and see around you to understand musical genius when you you hear it.....:)

  • Rock on Brian Wilson you are the man !!!!!

  • Summer of 1965, @ 14: Sweet agony lying in bed at night surreptitiously listening on my portable phonograph thinking about God Only Knows how many junior high school girls I had the hots for.

  • 1:43-2:32 floors me every time. Seems unreal.

  • would even make the angels in heaven sigh....

  • This is so beautiful. Time has stopped. I am happy being right here.

  • BW and BBs voices carry me away to somewhere else. Anyone who dismisses the BBs needs to listen to tracks like this one.

  • "Please Let Me Wonder" was on the flip side of "Dance, Dance, Dance."

I don't know about the rest of the country, but it was played on the radio in Los Angeles. Brian Wilson, The Beach Boys, and the famous studio musicians, "The Wrecking Crew," used on so many of their recordings are all there on this slice of musical brilliance. It only gets better with age. How lucky I was to grow up during this incredible period of art. This is an aural tapestry of the highest order.

  • @allegradrums Thanks so much for this comment. I've often wondered if songs like this were properly appreciated by people when it came out and I'm glad to know that it did play on the radio. Of course, you appreciate Wilson' incredible music even more when you strip it down to it's elements of voice and instrument and you listen to it with quality equipment. They did "play" it on Shindig, ad you could tell from audience reactions that people were just blown away by the harmonies/music/emotion.

  • I believe this was the flip side of the 45 "California Girls"

  • @mtndemmon California Girls b-side was Let him run wild , i think

  • @BicycleRider08

True greatness is eternal, my friend... I'm 57 and it has the same effect! Those listening a century from now will feel the same emotion

    .

  • No one sings like the Beach Boys---no one.

  • Hauntingly beautiful.

    is it their greatest masterpiece?

    its close

  • This is one of my favorite Beach Boys songs.

  • This is beautiful!!! Thanks for sharing this. : )))

  • Thank you for this. I love their voicies soo much!

  • Nothing in the whole wide world compares to this.

  • OLDSchooler- I'm an Ex-Detroiter also. Totally agree PLEASE LET ME WONDER is a hidden gem I Love "Kiss Me Baby" also. The tension Brian Wilson builds with the "Oh Babies". in the backround.

Another song I find very haunting and almost a premonition is FOREVER. I believe Dennis Wilson sang it. Al Jardine's backround vocal is incredibly emotion and touches my soul.

  • for the afficianados..

    hauntingly beautiful.

  • No, this wasn't on Good Vibrations Box Set. I first heard this on the radio in an interview with their biographer--I forget his name. Sorry. But isn't it incredible?

  • It was recorded for the "Beach Boys Today" album which predates Pet Sounds.

  • leave it up to Muray to jump Mike or Denny at ANY-time........

  • The harmonies are like having your ears caressed :)

  • Hey Truth, I'm not in one at the moment, but believe me.....when I do get a quartet back together, this is going to be high on my list to cover. I hope it could be duplicated with only four voices, though. He definitely did some over-dubbing on the background, because I can hear 4 harmony parts and the lead. Unless Dennis was singing also. But hey, it's still one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard.

  • @oldschoolsinger Dennis is definitely in there! He's audible in the stack of harmonies, plus I think that's him singing "Pleeeeeease" at 3:38 just as the take breaks down. Amazing recording.

  • Man, this is way better than the version that was released.

  • I've been a harmony singer for 35 years in various male vocal groups & barbershop quartets. NOTHING that has ever been done is better than this. This is my favorite of all the Beach Boys songs mainly because of the angelic background harmonies. Brian was an absolute genius & his heart & sentiment are both felt in this song more than any other that I've heard. I grew up on Motown & there were some wonderful harmonies with their groups, but nothing to compare with this. GREAT post!!

  • @oldschoolsinger I love it when fellow experienced musicians can come together in awe of brian's music. Glad to hear this is the best you've ever heard. Maybe you should do a cover of this with your quartet? ha Thanks for the listen

  • Damn. This clip just blows my mind. Brian!

  • What I'd give to have sat in on these sessions, and hear these wonderful singers up close.

  • awesome.

  • I used to have this and other BB boots on cassette tape, I listened to this over & over again in the dark at night. Thanks for posting it.

  • amazing, thanks for posting

  • this is what I imagine heaven sounding like. great post, mate! what a gem.

  • One of the greatest songs of the 60's, criminally overlooked or under-appreciated. Thanks for posting this video!

  • truthasfineprint - you are so right that the music is complex when stripped down. I have always been so intent on listening to Brian's glorious vocals on this that the music has always been secondary but WOW! It's incredible and beautiful and thank you very much for posting this. I was so carried away in it I didn't even notice Brian is the photographer in your picture!

  • I don't think Mike Love ever sounded so emotive as on this.

  • Oh my god! This is so amazing? Is this from the Good Vibrations boxed set? Where did you find this?

  • @sfan1 it might have originally been on the box set, but i downloaded it in a compilation callled "unsurpassed gems". it had five takes of this song but this one was the best! it also has an early take of wouldn't it be nice-deff worth the listen

  • Just amazing. Thanks for posting this.

  • Looks like someone must have hit the thumbs down by accident!.

    :-)

  • Thanks for posting this. It's cool to listen to the creative process.

  • Wow fantastic.

This demontrates the genius of Brian Wilson
