I don't know about the whole soul arguement. If you watch scenes from new york, he shows plenty of soul. Maybe his soul is just different from all the rest. Some people play with a lot of soul, but play extremely fast and dream theater doesn't really all sound the same espeacially from album to album. If you listen to scenes from a memory and all the albums up to systematic chaos, there's is definitely a difference. I do love what I'm hearing on this video though.

Sure, he fiddles around with their small work stations sometimes, but none of their sounds fits his mojo.

as far the soul is concerned,i think he is more of a technical player.i can resemble him to malmsteen the fast guitarist.(although i think malmsteen has abit less soul than jordan).and as some people like to hear malmsteen,there will always be musicians that count on their fast performance-exelent playing and effectiveness on notes,in order to earn a living, fans,fame,etc.i wish i could play like him.(or like malmsteen on guitar)

Dude, Malmsteen relies on harmonics and speed or shredding. We can't compare Rudess to someone like him because Rudess has a more, "artistic" approach to music. Malmsteen on keyboards would be Derek Sherinian.

Jordan lost his spark quite a few years ago. He sounds the same ever since the Kurzweil endorsement. Sensational keyboardist - mediocre musician.
