@chloe7829 you tighten your bow to how much you think is right then run your finger across the bow, with your nail facing up towards the hair and skin touching the shaft. your nail cannot be touching the hair, if it does then you have to tighten it more. hope this helps ^^
@mikiekohiggs having played both, i believe that generally there is no major difference in terms of difficulty, but depending on how your hand is built, you may prefer one over the other. those that are incredibly talented and nimble may disregard this, but in actuality, when starting out, if your hand is thinner and smaller, you may have better luck with the violin. if you have larger hands, you may prefer the cello. the reason being, that the cello requires stretchng of the hand for coverage.
@chrismaryflores Well i went to Fortuna Music Mart in Eureka, Cal. and they had $90 for the first 2 months then a flat $45 a month charge. I'm renting to buy and you can take 75% of what you pay to put it towards buying the Cello. I fell in love with Cello many years ago and I've wanted one since I was about 9 years old. I'm so happy too. Everyone should be able to play the instrument they want. Oh yeah! The price to buy was like $1,000, but I think renting to buy swould be the safer route. : )
@19LuSh14 I don't know if they have Volkweins just around me or if they're widespread, but my school gets all their instruments and rentals through them. The system they have works the same as the one you just described, but it's only $70 for 4 months, and then $40 a month after that, and 100% of the rental fees add up to buying a brand new cello, not even used or anything. They're really amazing!
@bhbluebird Pretty good! I'm very busy so I don't get to play as much as I like, but I love it!! It's hard to find good teachers where I live because not that many people play cello here. Plus I haven't had extra money for my lessons so a lot of the time I just play by ear, because I can't read music that well yet. I am a quick learner so I'm doing well though, thank you for asking! I'm going to buy a metronome soon so I can keep time better. Counting is the hardest part of playing music to me.
@19LuSh14 Thanks for replying. I love the cello, but was curious about how hard it is to learn etc. I have no musical training and was thinking about learning an instrument.
@bhbluebird No problem ; ) I really don't think it's hard to learn, but most instruments are difficult to play at first. I love the cello too, but I honestly was better at violin lol. The cello has a very long neck, so I think that makes it a little harder to play. I don't have any prior music training either, I just dove into it because I've wanted to play for so long. : ) You should get someone who knows how to read music to teach you. It's way easier to play songs, and is very rewarding.
1 minute and 47 seconds, WOW. I didn't know you could look great technique in such a short amount of time. Well, screw getting a personal tutor, I COULD LIVE OFF THIS.
who's the retard that thinks its a good idea to put a text box right in front of a video so that you cant see what's going on?!!! how do i make it go away???
I know this but whoever is using very rude comments or not satisfaction....You have a priveledge to comment not to use stupid nonsenses like other people do and this is like national tv here....
I like how the instructor is very clear about each point no matter how simple a concept is. So many people get lost in a lesson because the instructor leaves things out in fear of insulting their intelligence.
It would be super cool to see a student model following her instructions and then hear them play a duet together either in unison or two part harmony. She could then extend her mini-lessons to speak about intonation and blending!
In First Position, do you just put your fingers on the tapes?
(Just got my cello today)

That's a shame, I know a person who plays and has a WAY better tone and she's only been playing for 2 years.

I like the bottle analogy. My first cello teacher would have me place a small round ball in my hand to get the feeling of my hand being rounded.
Nice cello! It's BEAUTIFUL! :)
So ahem....when do we get to hear some crazy cello performances, expert village? POST SOME HAYDN, SCHUBERT, BACH, SOMETHING!!!! hahaha
