Mirella Freni "Come in quest'ora bruna" S. Boccanegra

Beautiful; Freni was indeed a fine Verdi soprano with definite lyric spinto tones and her other Verdi roles in Don Carlo, Aida, Luisa Miller and Traviata show her talent for Verdi singing. She has a rich, big voice with beauty and strength. There may not be pianissimi floating tones but it's still such a gorgeous voice; and she clearly had a passion for opera. She always impresses me. She is in addition a very beautiful woman.

Leyla Gencer's rendition is splendid also. Particularly her high soft tones...which are out of this world. Freni never had those kind of high softs...detached...floating...­heavenly. This is very good...but listen to Gencer.
