The 360 was never a hemi. so unless your running a 426, or have custom heads, please verify. i cant tell from the vid as we cant see the valve covers,
@normiewho Is your proctologist in the family?LOL.Just joking.Fords do look allot like some Mopars.Talkin' old school.Hope you updated the suspension for the street.
This would have to be one of the most consistent sleepers ever, constantly laying down 10 second passes and driven to and from the track, a credit to the owner.
@westeh I wasn't aware of the history of Chrysler in Aus. It was too bad the Japanese did them in. You guys had some very interesting Mopars--heck, you guys had some interesting Fords and GMs, too
@culcun Yeah dirty bastards .. A few of the models continued when Mitsubishi bought them out such as the Chrysler Galant became the Mtsubishi Galant.. Chrysler has returned tho with the 300c and Mopar aftermarket parts can be bought here, Long awaited return tho :)
@westeh I like the idea of the old performance slant-6s that were available in Aus. Our slant-6s were kind of the low of the low engine option as they were so low-powered. You guys had some high performance 6's back in the day from Holden, although I am not sure if Ford had anything other than V8s. We are just starting to experience performance V6's, starting with your Commodore we had as the G8, and the Camaro, and now the Mustang. Chrysler is putting some more power into their V6, too.
@culcun I think, by 'very interesting' you may mean 'stupidly fast and definitely very cool'. Chrysler Australia did amazing things with a smallish (for the day) in-line 6!
@sketchmeister You put some words into my mouth that I should have said, LOL. Chrysler in the US had some beasts of engines, so a V6 or I6 was never developed for performance; neither by GM or Ford until about 1 or 2 years ago (Chrysler just released theirs this year).
Our slant-6 was bought by old people or engineer types. With V8's, no one had a need for performance 6's...At least the base Challenger has 310hp now to compare to the Mustang V6 and Camaro V6.
@sketchmeister the other thing was our government put a blanket death knell to high performance V8's after 1971; low compression became the norm in 1972, with a few cars showing some light (i.e. 1973, 1974 Super-Duty Firebird). Combined with the oil embargo in '74, this would have been the perfect opportunity to develop performance 6's in the US...
@cyrusloynes Same thing happened in the antipodes. The fuel crisis combined with the 'supercar' scare put the brakes on some very interesting manufacturer projects. Phase IV XA GTHO Falcon. Supercar in every sense of the word! There's a famous pic of a Phase III being road tested, over the shoulder, driver having fun, doing 150. Didn't go down too well with the nancy boy press! Chrysler had the E55 340 V8 in development. There are some in existence. I believe there was a 360 variant also.
@culcun - agreed, but Chrysler should have built cars Australia wanted to buy, not recycled a 1971 model into the early eighties. Going one size bigger than Ford and Holden put them in a trap once the 1973 fuel crisis took hold.
@JBofBrisbane it was similar in the US--Chrysler was late to the pony car days with the '70 Challenger and Baracuda, and kept the same cars going to 1974, and their other cars were all slow behemoths. Their bright spot was in 1978, their 'Lil Red Pickup truck which was faster than the '78 Corvette. Their other fast cars were the 440 ci police cars.
@culcun 340/360 A-bodies weren't bad, slow behemoths. But hey, alot of crap in the mid-70's thru the first part of the first decade of the millenium. Now Damnear Chrysler is majority owned by FIAT, so I don't think their quality will go up unfortunately- I am a fan of the old Mopar, I've owned about a dozen of them, but won't even look at the stuff they make now due to the UAW and Fiat owning majority of it.
@1st3som That'd be okay- the 300C is going to be the Lancia Thema (no 8.32 of yore) in Europe, but I doubt anything beyond a switch or relay will trickle down from Ferrari...there is a real danger in brand 'down'-classing, although the Viper and Ferrari could share some DNA!
all under the bonnet and behind the gril. i would love to see the face on a vl driver wonce your have blown him away at the lights. my vf hemi 6 is getting some work at the moment mid to mild motor with a vortec blower and gas research draw through
Obviously a mistake on the part of the poster, this is not a Hemi headed 360. You can plainly see in the video that it has LA style heads. I have never heard of a 360 SB with Hemi heads, period.
Yep have a 2010 5.7 Hemi in the driveway. This is a coil on plug set up and reverse flow cooling. The accessory bolt holes are in a different location and the head bolts are in different locations.
@btmiller88 There is a company who makes true Hemi heads for the LA 273 -360 Chrysler motors. Not sure what the company name is. Don't think they sold to many because of the high price they charged for them. They did look great thou. They was way lighter then the early Hemi's as well. Even the small Hemi's would be over 700+ Lbs for just the motor. Hot heads made aluminum heads to replace the cast iron heads for more power & racing .Wish I could remember the name of the CO that made LA/Hemi head
its not hittin the high notes cos that was a proper dyno pull it would hav seen real power not dyno comp hp, nice slow steady pull controlled by the dyno makes the engine perform best without gettin a big power spike.
Its not hitting the high notes streightaway maybe if you had one big single turbo with a bigger exhaust pipes the turbos your useing look a bit small on the exhaust side theres a crowd in america called nelson racing check out some of there set ups big pipes chunky exhaust impellors
im not too much of a car guy. Although i do goto school for automotive tech. Im not trying to be a dick. But wasnt the hemi so named for the hemispherical head it used? If that is the case. If you bolt a hemi head onto a ford wouldnt it still be a hemi. not a true hemi, but a hemi none the less. I know in top fuel racing some cars use hemi heads on non hemi blocks. is it not a hemi then?
Screech woulb the turbo blow off...
