Car Fires are actually very dangerous. They have lots of plastics and other materials that are very flammable. The burning material is very nasty to breath (hence the air-packs on the Firefighters). My experience has been that if the fire starts while the operator is driving the car in cool weather it is often started as a electrical fire or electrical short that doesn't trip a fuse. Not sure what caused this one however.
@101southsideboy It's standard operating procedure I am sure. Just doing things by the book. When I worked on an engine you always blocked the tires in case the engine was knocked out of gear or the brakes failed. Before the ladder goes up outriggers come out of the side of the engine to help stabilize it from rocking. I believe they are currently discussing the idea of replacing this ladder (7528).
@JesWebb No problem. I'm only an explorer but this is what we were told at our post. Makes sense to me. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong? As for feet tingling, that's sounds strange too because the boots are rubber. Maybe we ought write a letter to Myth Busters.
Great vid, great to see some guys wearing their air packs at mv fires! and also, WERE SOME OF THOSE SURVIVEAIRS STEEL TANKS!?!?!?! HEAVY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sounds like faulty wiring in the dashboard, was it faulty wiring? Glad the kid made out safe & his xbox, but to bad for the sweater. He could sue the person who sold him the vehicle. Awesome vid by the way!!
I was. I am a Public Information Officer and a small town film maker now. Being a fireman made it hard to video because I always wanted to put the camera down and help.
I have a few fire videos that Have done as well, you should go to my page and view the "Arc of Death", bet you know what I mean too.. Caught it on video, thank God no firemen got hurt.
Yeah electricity is creepy (I watched it). As I recall there are report cases of firefighters being electrocuted through the water nozzle. It's been so long I would have to check on that but I don't think it''s as uncommon as some would think. I have a couple other videos here you will find interesting if your a fire buff. Just give them a minute to get started.
why the firefighter wet the floor first?

@JesWebb what was the reason for the wheel being blocked? I could see if they were raising the ladder for extra satfy
