i was grooving out to this when it made it to the states and i still love it even after 23 years, still none of the new wonder hit makers cant hold a candle to corrine
Piss-poor I'm afraid Dave - it reached a disappointing No. 32 in April 87. They had to wait exactly 2 years for a return to the UK Top 40 after this - 'You On My Mind' making No.28. They produced some fine singles in their hey-day, but received little acknowledgement for their talent and artistry. It's great to watch them and listen to some of their classics here on the Tube!
Hate to say this, because I love SOS, but Corinne's voice wasn't up to snuff for this show.
This was early in their career so perhaps she had been singing too much and her voice needed rested. This is just a voice-over so they should have just gone all the way and had her do a lip sync.
I hadn't seen this video before (and neither have many others considering the less than 10,000 views at this time), but I had the exact same thoughts. I thought her voice sounded a little "under the weather" and was thinking it must have been from doing all their promotional touring singing their big "Breakout" hit from that time period.
Almost feel sorry for poor Corinne in this. Love that playful eye-roll at 3:07 though!
After listening to this again, Corinne is the only one performing on this 'live'
appearance. It's the original recording, with her doing a voiceover. Since her voice wasn't up to snuff on this occasion they should have just done a full blown lip sync.
BTW, the original video for Twilight World had over 300,000 views before Youtube
I always liked that original video for the setting and the decidedly odd yet distinctly memorable "dance" moves Corinne does in it. However, I HATED that oversize mannish suit she wore in it along with that too-short haircut.
But, I would still watch it again if it was back on YouTube.
(She looks more characteristically stunning in the later videos for "Forever Blue" and "Waiting Game," which at last look are still up on YouTube, thankfully.)
One of my all time favorite jams. What a fucking song.I can't think of a song with that aura. From the gloom of the introductory chords to the urgent sweeping horn and string arrangments this is a masterpiece of pop music!
It's a pure classic!!!! Back in the 80's, the bands used to perform live at tv shows and here, Corrine Drewery had a spetecular performance!
Wich singer today has the hability to face an audience and sing live????
Please, come back 80's and 90's!!!!

I like the way she dressed in the late 80's.

There's so much distortion and reduced bit rate audio "swiming", how can anyone tell how anything sounds on this..

Ha, ha, ha! Yes, I agree - Corinne was/is always so playfully dramatic.
BTW, I like it so much I always replay that little bit on the original recording - just can't be imitated!

I can't decide whether I prefer this or Breakout because they're both f***ing brilliant. Altho' this version is a bit ropey. Listen to the album.

This was definitely their best song. A synth pop classic. Brilliant song.
