If someone breaks into your flat, you'll probably protect yourself very much like an animal. You have blood, hair, eyes, teeth.... So do animals. You know the difference between animals and humans? If evolution were not the mechanic for this change, that would mean god suddenly decided to create a new organism that is tolerant to our drugs. But he loves us, so he wouldn't do that.
Hence, the only plausible explanation we have without resorting to theocratic idiocy is evolution, and the logic behind it is flawless.
Those with random mutations for resistance survive, and pass on this gene. Those that do not have it do not.

how is that? all animals are evolved to thrive in their particular environment. We have evolved to thrive in a resource rich environment. We can not survive the antarctic glaciers like many birds do. We can not thrive in a desert, like many reptiles, insects and some mammals do.
Humans have evolved to manage where nourishment is more abundant like heavily forested areas or savannas where medium - large mammals reign supreme. Only in the last few millenia have some of us advanced beyond this.

you can distinguish humans AS animals but it is no longer possible to distinguish humans FROM animals. If you have Metabolism and have Gamete cells you automatically qualify as an animal period. the fact we are Bipedal tetropods that give birth to young and every other quality we have automatically qualifies us as animals and guarantees we cant be anything else.

We don't have anything extra than what animals have other than exaggerated brain skills, that's where religion comes from.
