I have a terabyte hard drive with about 550,000 songs on it. about 8,000 or more are karaoke songs. I bought the hard drive from a dj who didn't need it. All the songs are in zip folders. Do I need to unzip them before running them through a karaoke software or will the software do it for me? Also, what about organizing the songs? Are there programs that will alphabetize them for you by artist? Please help me. I really want to get my business off the ground.
@biggriff71 Unless the guy included the disks, the hard drive with songs on it is almost definitely illegal. So NOT dj/kj with it if he does not provide the cds or record that he bought the mp3s. 550,000 songs, at $1 a song, would mean he sold you $550,000 worth of stuff (if it were legal). So unless you paid him hundreds of thousands, it's probably stolen music. Sorry dude, but you got taken.
Sunfly is by far one of the crappiest brand discs on the market...stick with sound choice, chartbuster, top or pop hits monthly ...don't be like the rest and buy the cheapest...you get what you pay for!
This video is very helpful. I'm looking to set up my PC as a Karaoke machine. Not for business, but home parties. I already have a bunch of mp3+g & figured out how to play them via winamp with plug ins.I need to figure out what I need to purchase and what it costs. I see you have a 10 channel mixer. Since I'm doing home use, can I get a cheaper one with only like 3 channels? Do I need a specific video or audio cards? Wish they had a PC Karaoke4 Dummies book. Thanks!
You said you were going to go with a Behringer powered mixer? I have been researching them and the Yamahas. By far the Yamahas are most peoples choice. How do you like the effects on the Yamaha for Karaoke. Could you give a more detailed demo?
I don't even have the yamaha stuff anymore. The effects were really good for karaoke. I went with all powered QSC cabs now with mackie boards. The yamaha still has better effects than my mackies as far as I'm concered.
You can buy it online on the sax and dotty's website. You can find it through google. Also they have a newer version out now and the price is now $60 or so.
Hey Zack, I was just woundering if there is a big difference between soundchoice and chartbuster. I don't own any karaoke but have done karaoke when I DJ'ed at my sisters bar before with a friends karaoke cd's on my system. They were Chartbuster and was thinking of getting the 7 or 8 sets they have out and start doing it in my gigs. they have the 30 cd set with 450 songs or 1 cd with all the 450 songs each set just for pc use. Just thought I'd ask what you thought of them.
I guess really chartbuster and sound choice are fairly equal in a way. Chartbuster had really good country and good everything else. While sound choice has good country and very good everything else. In the end I still think sound choice is the best.
Hey thanks for the help... I've been a club DJ for years but have never had to do Karaoke. Now I've been doing a lot more weddings and corporate type parties and I have been asked to do karaoke at my next one... I have been pretty lost! I'm trying to get things together for the gig and your video really helped out. Thanks!
I've really got to talk you into getting a laptop...hehe. I know the reasons you use a desktop, I did for quite a while myself. Once you make the splurge, and move to a laptop, you will love it, it's work every penny :) Good instruction video here. I liked the tip on the song book creator! Nice tip, especially for us guys who do Karaoke on the side, and DJ mainly, and are not as well educated. What is the cheapest effects processor (rack mount) you would suggest?
Also, as you know, VDJ will run Karaoke for you. You mentioned you were having some trouble getting that to work. I've got it working here. If you'd like to shoot me a message, describing the difficulty you are having, I'll see if I can't help you out :) Take care buddy!
Sorry it took so long to reply. I don't know the models to recommend since I really havn't used many. What I would look for is 24 bit with reverbs and echos. You really don't need anything to fancy. A tap sinq would be nice also so you can match the echo to the beat of the song. You sould be albe to get a nice one for less than 150.00.

Oh, and the mixer I use is a Numark 200FX, It has been really good for me being able to hook up 5 mics and with effects for karaoke.
