  • you could just put a piece of iron below the strings on top of the nut.

    Cheap, and efficient!

  • It's a nice little delta thing, but please don't call it a rag. There's nothing "rag" about this piece, other than the 12-bar format.

  • It's a traditional song. That's its name.

  • I'm really new to this, but I've always wondered if you can play this with a normal steel-string guitar!? You just need this slide thingy and fingerpicks?

  • Yep- this is a normal steel string guitar. If I were a richer man, I'd have another guitar with a raised bridge and nut, which would cut out the bar noise, but it's possible on any guitar. You just have to use a slightly lighter touch with a regular action, that's all.

  • Hehehe, that's what I have to use too...I use my Fender Tele:) Great job! Be blessed!

  • Hi there, great job! For raising the action, I got a little $4.00 metal sleeve from my local guitar shop, that I slip over the nut of my acoustic when I want to play lap steel. Slips right off when your done. Hope this helps!

  • Very nice!

  • Right on to you too bro! Good job!

  • i wish i could put this on my ipod

  • The ghost of Sylvester Weaver lives on, it's too bad not many people listen to his music anymore, his recordings are almost forgotten in time :(

  • The "hit" version of "Steel Guitar Rag" was recorded by Bob Wills and His Texas Playboys. It featured "Take it away" Leon McAuliffe on steel. He adapted it from the Sylvester Weaver piece. There's also a cool sax break on the recording.

  • Doesn't matter if it's open D or E, it's just one step difference and it's all relative, the bar noise is there because you were hitting the fretboard with your slide. It wouldn't matter where the microphone is, it will still pick up the clunking.

All in all it was a good job though and i liked it.

  • how did u learn this?

  • I think Sylvester Weaver recorded this origionally, atleast as "Soft Steel piston" in 1927

  • i wish i could have this song on my ipod

  • good job man

  • I like the way it sounds, that rural blues feel. Everybody says there's mistakes ok, but overall I liked it.

  • thats the probaly the best steel guitar rag i've ever heard

  • Open D very nice

  • sounds like Open C to me. This guy needs to work on his intonation, constantly hearing the bar make contact with the frets. a good start tho.

  • Nope, Azrael was right- it's open D. I hear what your saying about intonation, but as I mentioned the bar noise is disproportionately audiable beause of the microphone placement...and the alternative recording will destroy your ear drums!

  • Real soulful and a great clips. You play this tune great. Thanks for posting it.

  • A few mistakes here and there, but you give the FEEL of the song which is needed at most. pretty nice

  • you complained about sound quality, but it sounds great to me. i love this song. have you heard roy smeck's version. mind blowing!!! thanks for posting the vid.

  • It's good see that there are still people who understand that shred guitar is not the only way to show real talent... great job

  • the fahey version he uses open E
