Yes, they can keep this healthcare if they have it already. However, the clause is...all plans must fall beneath government plan within 5 yrs. The other part of it is also that if you make changes in your health plan, you fall under the government by default. I read that you're Norwegian. American exceptionalism has been abused in the past (genocide against Amerindians, torture, etc) but it has also led to good things (New Deal, foreign aid, Medicare and Veterans Administration).
The New Deal was terrible and one of the reasons we had a depression. Foreign aid is abused to give other countries military aid and spred the "American Empire', Medicare is bankrupt, and the VA isn't all that wonderful.
The biggest problem with believing your #1 is that you never correct your mistakes and you stop improving.
We are always looking to improve our healthcare systems. When I mentioned American exceptionalism I was just trying to play to the sympathies of nationalist Americans.
I do think however that each country should make sure its own subjects get the best care and are the healthiest people in the world.
But that is what American exceptionalism is. The belief that America is the best and it has some sort of divine destiny to always remain the greatest.
Now as for goverments running healthcare to make everyone healthy. I'm not certain that is possible. Populations grow, new diseases happen every day, etc. In essence your asking the individual to take care of all of society.
This worry about health care costs is only a symptom of a greater concern. Monetary inflation.

I think USA's healthcare is too strongly tied to employment. Costs are going up even more because people are losing their jobs and becoming underinsured or are being forced to switch to an inferior government plan.
The problem with the cost of healthcare (or anything we buy) it is all tied to the value of the US dollar.
Whenever the federal goverment borrows money to pay for anything (including wars) we ask the Federal Reserve to print money out of thin air which leads to inflation. Prices rise and the People suffer.
You can't have subjects the fittest and most educated as long as the Federal Reserve continues to exist.

fudgepacker: there are not 46 million uninsured. 9 million of those 46 already have Medicaid. 3.5 million are eligible for existing gov't coverage. 20 million can afford insurance but choose not to buy it. That leaves 13.5 million - mostly illegal immigrants. This is not about health coverage. It is about controlling billions of dollars of health care money as well as EVERY ASPECT OF YOUR LIFE.

Yes, they can keep this healthcare if they have it already. However, the clause is...all plans must fall beneath government plan within 5 yrs. The other part of it is also that if you make changes in your health plan, you fall under the government by default. I read that you're Norwegian. You can't possibly understand how corrupt our government is at this point. It has nothing to do with BO as he's a puppet. We're waking up. Time to rumble. :)

The problem with the cost of healthcare (or anything we buy) it is all tied to the value of the US dollar.
Whenever the federal goverment borrows money to pay for anything (including wars) we ask the Federal Reserve to print money out of thin air which leads to inflation. Prices rise and the People suffer.
You can't have subjects the fittest and most educated as long as the Federal Reserve continues to exist.
And I'm working to get rid of it just for those reasons you stated.

The Fed's actions created this economic crisis we're already in and has inflated the currency so badly that a single dollar only purchases five cents of what it used to in 1913.

I think ending the Fed has as much chance in USA as enacting single payer healthcare. There is too much money to be made for certain individuals.

There is something you can do about it. Research HR 1207. It's a bipartsian bill aimed at auditing the Federal Reserve.
Currently it has over 280 members in the House of Representatives in favor of it. The problem is Nancy Peloisi and Barney Frank are keeping the bill in Committee. If we get more Representatives to sign onto the bill it WILL have to be debated on the House Floor.

No, this is serious. Ron Paul sponsored it and he despises the Federal Reserve.
A few key democrats have sponsored it as well. Sanders and Grayson. Grayson actually helped get 100 members of the House to get involved.
The key point is to get the bill on the floor, because no sane Representative is going to say the Federal Reserve can't be audited.

You have no clue how long the veterans can get their check up appt at the VA : 3 months later !!! That's what kills me about the Democrats. They are so up in arms over this "healthcare reform", but they don't actually read the bill to see why it's so terrible or can even come up with a plan on how they are going to pay for it when we're $12 trillion in debt.

I wonder how many of those older people in the crowd are going to give up thier Medicare or VA coverage because its a government run plan. The Constitution does not mention the GI Bill or VA system, so by your definition you want to deny Veterans access tohealth care because it is a government system. Expand you mind. Research those logical fallacies. You are liberal and should be open to new things. Once you under stand what those logical fallacies are try to state your argument w/o using them. If you pose an argument laced with logical fallacies then your argument is false.
Next read/understand the constitution. If you do not want to live a country that lives by principles admit it and pursue the destruction of that document. That is what someone with integrity would do.

You've got a fallacy in that argument. There are many Americans that did not like Bush and even voted against him that do not want the health care "reform" to proceed because they are tired of the federal goverment spending their money (nor do they want tax hikes in a difficult economy).
Forget the political parties. They only work for themselves and care very little for this country or the People.
