This is my favorite Stones song, and Trey, Paige, Mike, and Jon made their version rock even more than the original. My hope is that when I see them in a couple of weeks they do this live.
Sharon Jones (from the Dap Kings) was one of the female vocalists. She was backed by Saundra Williams. The horn section consisted of David Guy (Trumpet), Tony Jarvis (Sax), and David Smith (Trombone)
i like to change the lyrics to," oh,what a beautiful world" lol what a beautiful buzzzzzzzzzzzzzz you know i danced my ass off. who is the back up vocals? love phish with some female
fishman is like a fine wine and only gets finer with age. vacuum solo and fishmans's rambling before the suzy greenberg choruses were the highlight of my weekend
mike has gotten better which is hard to believe because he was already amazing, but yeah he's the one thats stuck out to me since they've been back. Fishman's always been incredible and continues to be
Was it just me or have Mike and Fishman gotten way better at their respective instruments? They were already top shelf, but they just seemed to take it to another level this weekend. I think the time apart playing with and being influenced by others was pretty noticeable.
I think Fish is the weakest musically of the bunch, but Mike supplied unbelievable grooves all weekend, Trey played guitar ferociously, and Page raged it up.
Well, I think it's relative you know what I'm sayin'? They are all quite talented, so yes it's possible he's the weakest of the bunch. I've been a drummer and I can tell you Fishman is a very, very good drummer and has been for a long time - very underrated IMO. He can basically play anything...they all can, that's why I like them so damn much. Fishman did flub part of Reba though, which was cool to see :-) Pros mess up too some times.
i don't know about that. a band is only as good as its drummer and fishman definitely plays more creatively than any other drummer in a rock setting that i can think of.
I noticed a significant change in approach to their instruments that weekend. i felt like fishman almost had like a bebop approach, and showed his technical ability a little bit more, i think undermind had some sick little fills at the end
seriously, I've been to like 120 shows, and the Halloween show was the best show I've seen in more than 10 years. So epic, so tight, such a perfect, gorgeous location. Phish crowds are the best anywhere. The energy during this Loving Cup was like Nuclear-Level-Insane. RIDONK.
This was the best set I've ever witnessed them play. I wasn't a Stones fan before this show, but after hearing them play Exile on Main Street, I realized that I was in the dark on this album. Phish is the band of all bands ! They've had their moments, of successes, and mistakes, but either side, or the other, I'm following these guys b/c I believe in them. Thanks for the video. I was about where you're standing except on Page's side. Let this music relax your mind. WOW
Possibly the best Lovin' Cup ever!
