To each his own. I have read virtually all the interviews discussing technique of all the great singers/teachers of the past 60 years & more as well as heard many of them sing. They would disagree with you. I think this young man's swallowed sound makes the voice less lovely, it does not carry as well as it could, & makes it seem less spontaneous/more artifical. Jussi B used to say that when he was "on" the voice seemed resonate about 9 inches if front of his mouth.
Yeah, you're probably right. Though I don't know if its fair to compare any singer to Jussi, ha. I like this guy, last last few high to be able to sing all of Anna Bollena and then still have high C's left to sing in the end is not an easy thing. Hard to find any tenors of this quality these days.
I still like this young man's talent &, if he corrects his problems, should be an excellent singer. Also, try not to judge tenors based solely on their top. Schipa had a 40 year career & he had no top & a small voice. Pavarotti said that Caruso lost his tip top for the last part of his career, but who cared? For some reason of physics the really high voices are often ugly in many other parts of their range. R. Bing said, "the higher the voice the smaller the brain".
I disagree, I think he shows a good balance of both. Too much frontal placement seems to be a lack of technique and I think he shows a very nice balance between the two.
I just studied with him. Get at me

A little more frontal placement my boy. Still, nicely done.

tenore corretto, attento, ma come al solito assolutamente impersonale!
