  • Ah, back through the glen I rode again,

And my heart with grief was sore

For I parted then with valiant men

Whom I never shall see more

But to and fro in my dreams I go

And I'd kneel and pray for you

For slavery fled, O glorious dead,

When you fell in the Foggy Dew.

  • @JD1010101110 Since you're being such a generalizing prick you should move here. I mean god forbid you look in the mirror and realize that you've been accusing Americans of the the very same thing that you are doing yourself. And just because our government does have this tendency to make stupid decisions doesn't mean that our entire country agrees with them in any way. By the way since you feel the need to spell check others it's not hipocrisy it's hypocrisy.

  • Wow, I like a little music with my comment debate as much as the next guy, but geeze.

You all do realize that there's a video with a great song, by a great band above your heated discussions, right?

  • I'm Pakistani but I'm in love with Irish music. First Moving Hearts and now Young Dubliners. It's what music is supposed to be, deep, invocative, energetic and whatnot. Makes me want to make my own revolutionary music with my own local influences here in Pakistan.

  • im irish american

my ancestors were oppressed, discriminated against, and hated for the simple fact that they were irish

if you say that a man cant be irish because he isnt from ireland then please convince those that were in power and used that power to unjustly hate us

tell that to the irish bloodline that still lives in poverty in nyc, boston, and all over the east coast and midwest

irish heritige irish pride fighting the struggle wheter its from brits or the wealthy in the usa

  • @jsddugan

No you're just american, learn to live with your disappointment

  • @JD1010101110 right i should be dissapointed

i dont deal with poverty and urban poverty and oppression from america, the same way my ancestors delt with it, the same way that all british colonies do

if you want to be a dick and hate on people then at least learn to hate those that justifiably need to be hated

  • @JD1010101110 You do know that the Young Dubliners are Americans. The band was formed in Los Angeles.

  • Fuck the Brits, fuck the EU, fuck the IMF....remember what these brave men, including my great uncle, fought and died for!!!!

  • @alteradzy Do you mean all the people who have extend substantial loans to ireland so it can't keep afloat?

  • Hey, what album is this version from??

  • GOD BLESS IRELAND!!!!

  • not all americans are ignorant assholes. I'll admit that a lot of us are stupid, but some of us are actually genuine people who don't hate on everything that isn't from this country.

  • @SloaneJoyy its true every bit of it even though i was born in germany, people in the US can be VERY racist i cant count the times ive been walking home and people will scream "NAZI!!!!!" at me and drive off

  • This song always brings a tear to my eye

  • I like this song and Irish songs in general tbh.

And I can sympathise with that the original IRA wanted to do and achieved. It's just a shame they have to lumped in with those twats in the Provisional IRA.

  • remeber, do NOT feed trolls! especialy english ones!

  • 2 people are british

  • @lioncircleantilope the irish are british

  • @ilikepenguins100 sure sure whatever

  • @ilikepenguins100 Dude? Seriously? The British invadved the Irish sure but the Irish are not British....

  • @Sammavenrye youre from nebraska, shut the hell up. i am irish and i live in ireland. the irish, the scots, and the welsh are all britons

  • @ilikepenguins100 Um dude history...but fine if you consider yourself a Briton then I'm not going to aruge with a native. After I'm just a descendent...

  • @ilikepenguins100 I'm from Ireland and lived there for the first 18 years of my life. I don't consider myself Britons. I'm Irish.

However, the nomenclature of the people who live in the British Isles is not very well-defined, and left mainly up to the individual to decide what he or she is.

  • @Cainus44 i consider myself irish too, and a briton. just like a guy from new york is still an american

  • @ilikepenguins100 Legally speaking, unless you have UK citizenship, which I'm not saying you do or don't, you wouldn't really be a Briton. You'd be identifying with a nation that you don't have any legal ties to, or even ethnic ties, really.

  • @ilikepenguins100 It's true. You may be British but Britons are a different ethnicity than Irish. And I don't understand your New York comment. Of course he's an American. We are the United States after all. The thing about America is that almost none of us are natives to this land, whereas in Ireland there are the natives of Ireland and the natives of Britain (the Britons). The British invaded. Actually listen to the song maybe?

  • @Sammavenrye if you are born in america you are a native. ao almost everyone in your country is a native. and this song is shit

  • @ilikepenguins100 Wow obviously I did not mean native in that sense.....ah whatever God Bless! Sorry I've been arguing with you -sighs-

  • @Sammavenrye God bless you love, merry christmas

  • @ilikepenguins100 Merry (late ;P) Christmas to you to! thanks

  • @Sammavenrye

To be honest their is very little cultural or genetic difference between the British and Irish. There are in fact more people entitled to an Irish passport living on the Isle of Great Britain than the entire Island of Ireland. Also technically the English never invade Ireland.

  • @JD1010101110 The English invaded Ireland several times, historically. There was the initial Norman invasion, which resulted in a genocide that killed half of Ireland's population in the late 11th century. After that, you had Cromwell, who actually did have to launch an invasion since English "control" over Ireland faded out centuries before. Cromwell consolidated English control over Ireland for the next few hundred years, making further invasion unnecessary.

  • @Cainus44

Wow are history books like Kryptonite to you?

  • @JD1010101110 Since you haven't actually refuted what I said in any way, I'm forced to assume you are little more than a simpleton and a troll.

  • ifreann yera yeah

  • this song inspires me like nothing other. I only wish i could have fought with them in 1916

  • @KilljoyJon38 as do i! but we must help the cause as it stands now. weather through the gun or through the pen!

  • aye lads.the irish invented music.eirinn go bragh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • irish freedom for blood.

    no problem.

    cant kill whats free.

freedom cant die, it can only live on.

  • These foolish comments make me want to store away any arms i own, and live alone on a fucking mountain away from the mutated gene pool that keeps multiplying uncontrollably..... Get off youtube kiddies and get a breathe of fresh air.

  • @RememberThe1776

Welcome to the internet. With the anonymity found by simply being a username as opposed to a face, anyone is free to use the internet as a platform to rant about anything, even if they don't really feel any particular connection to the topic at hand. The problem is simply invested in the idea that if you call someone "fake and gay" in real life, they'll knock your teeth out, but if you do it on the internet, they can't touch you. Kind of a shame, really.

  • @Savemefromhelen dude if they made the connections back to actual people. Man, these idiots would cause the murder rate to spike. There are people in the world you do NOT piss off. Doing so would result in a very untimely death and/or prison time.

  • Erin go Bragh!

  • awesome song

  • Tiocfaidh ár lá!

  • Who's the woman with the gun?

  • @MadamePlantier

I think Countess Constance Markievicz, she was the first woman MP in the UK parliament.

  • and to the guiy that said the song isnt irish.

i say the same to you

  • @rikk1234 It's about the Easter uprising of 1916. Hence the lyric "Twas better to die 'neath an Irish sky than at Suvla or Sud-El-Bar"

  • @Lancel32

doesn't the Easter morn pretty much make that clear?

  • @Lancel32 Hi, On 6 August 1915 it was the site for the Landing at Suvla Bay by the British IX Corps as part of the August Offensive during the Battle of Gallipoli. Sedd el Bahr (in modern Turkish, Seddülbahir, meaning "Key of the Sea") is a village at Cape Helles on the Gallipoli peninsula in Turkey. I thought the same thing as you when i first heard this song, Cheers.

  • @Lancel32 It may have some meaning about the Easter uprising 1916 too. Maybe we are both right. cheers I still love the song....!

  • Not irish, but the song is enticing.

Here is to your history, mates. Cheers.

  • @ExcessiveViking lol it is irish, but your ignorance is enticing

  • @Ryanjoe090

I meant i'm not Irish, dude.

  • @ExcessiveViking well thats awkawrd.sorry...for being a dick

  • This song is about world war 1, its not about fighting the British....! It is a fantastic song one of my Favourites. Cheers....

  • This song is about world war 1, its not about fighting the British....!

  • @JD1010101110 what a pussy, fighting for your own land is not terrorism, fag

  • @blasterbryan18

So the guys killing US soldiers in Iraq, Afghanistan, and those fighting to remove US bases from Saudia Arabia like Al Quaeda are all brave heroes too?

I just enjoy pointing out American hipocrasy that went terrorists are white they're freedom fighters, when their Brown they're evil.

If you want to Know more about Irish history, try reading Richard English's Irish Freedom its a good primer for the beginner.

  • @JD1010101110

no pussy not at all the same, the muzzlims or terrorists as you call them are sick and sadistic. they hate everything but themselve and want to kill anyone who is not for the divine alah.

ireland wants to be a sovereign nation, if those badass BRAVE heros in ireland are terroist then so were the patriots who fought in the revolutionary war. Are you calling george washington a terrorist?

  • @varie45

This is somewhat like boxing an infant. First it's spelt muslim. Second no they don't hate everything blah blah blah, and it's that sort of ignorance which prevents the west from finding peace. Third those exact sort of arguments were used by conservatives against the Irish nationalists because of their Catholic faith.

If Washington was fighting his campaign today, then yes he would be a terrorist, and the sons of liberty prior to the war certainly were.

  • @JD1010101110 Prevents the West from having peace? Explain please.

It's funny how people from the UK always seem to think they know more about America and Americans than Americans themselves.

  • @AdoreYouInAshXI

I do like these response as it gives me an excuse to hear this song again. Quick question where in the sentence you quote do I mention Americans? Also as to your second point I would assume thats the benefits of a classical education, So people from the UK know who John Locke is, and unlike Americans they know about the Philosopher not just the tv character named for him.

  • @JD1010101110

The fact that you generalize about all Americans shows how ignorant and dogmatic you are.

  • @JD1010101110 I'm an American who knows about Locke, as well as Rousseau and Hume. And a few more you might not know much about such as Paine, Jefferson and Harris. You might profit from a proverb I learned in the service: assumption is the mother of all fuck-ups. Interestingly enough, I don't even know what TV character you're referring to. At any rate, if you're so fucking brilliant, why has your country become basically irrelevant in the 21st century?

  • @flythegadsden whats wrong with staying under the radar we got what we wanted and now all we want is to be left alone and these 12 year olds with their vulgure and frankly childish immature and flat out mean comments don't help etheir side

  • @AdoreYouInAshXI Well americans clearly need help. I mean if in less than 300 years they've destroyed their country while other countries have been more than dubble or triple the time that the "all knowing" united states of yours has and have never been as deep as the US in crisis they should start taking some advice from a country that has done it right, not saying UK necessarily but any country that has had success. To bad the US owes or has pissed of anyone who could help.

  • @Roamin12345 You should change your comment from "Americans" to the American government. The average American person is no different than any other human in emotion and feelings. I said "average" sure we have assholes and arrogant pricks too but you'd be a closed minded fool to think all Americans are that way. Also, people act like America is in some huge poverty stricken state of desperation (or at least you do) compared to the majority of other countries, we have it kosher.

  • @varie45 ...By your definition of "terrorist' than yes he was. The Islamic culture is vast and varying , just like any culture or religious group, and some do take things to extreme measures. But this happens in all religions not just the Islamic ones, for example, The christian church they launched 14 or so "holy" crusades against anyone who was not them, had plenty of inquisitions killing thousands. I could wright more but I'm running out of room, every religion has extremism not just Islam.

  • @Roamin12345 lets get this straight... A Christian wouldn't have killed people because they believed differently. what we see in the crusades are a bunch of dicks trying to control the world while using Christianity as a title to get europe behind them... just like the US government used 9/11 to get Patriotic Americans behind an endless war against people who they have never even met, because the Government says they'll "Steal our Freedom and our little babies".. which is absolute horseshit.. :)

  • @urbanpsych0 we call those "People" Terrorists and suddenly no one likes them. its perfect. soon the terrorists are HERE and they are training more called "Sleeper Cells" and other bullshit, then all of a sudden they are no longer Islamic but "Radical Right wing Conservatives" they will equate people we all agree are dicks like the KKK with people who would like to see less centralized government, lower tax, and generally all the things that make countries work.. but oh well, whatever.

  • @urbanpsych0 Sure they would have... and they did and told people who spoke up that they could never go to 'heaven' they used it as a title yes but it was still totally up to the Roman Catholic Church to launch the crusades and the inquisitions. The only reason they don't still have power today is because of Martin Luther.

  • @Roamin12345 what i'm saying then is the Catholic Church that launched crusades and inquisitions were not Christian.. how can the Pope Tell you that you aren't going to heaven? he cant.. hes not God. I obviously am not Catholic, and there are many Catholics who are good Well meaning people, i think that the institution is not what is taught in the Bible. for example.. the whole hierarchy is bullshit. Like, American People are good and well meaning, Our Government is full of Dickheads.

  • @urbanpsych0 Yes but he did, excommunications, hell he even excommunicated groups of people if he didn't like their leader. And yes they were christian at the time there was only the roman catholic church in Europe nothing else, no sort of protestants had arisen yet the church was the most powerful company (yes company they were a business organization if you really look at it) in Europe, they held the most land and were taking 10% of all of Europe's money every payday the church was a

  • Comment removed

  • @urbanpsych0 ...horribly corrupted, materialistic organisation who controlled Europe until people started to think for themselves stared revolts across Europe. But I do agree with you about the united states, not all americans are as think as people may think.... most of them are, including most of their governing class. Now if only they listened to their president he really has the right ideas and his plans will work just in just people in US don't know how to wait.

  • @Roamin12345 His plans will never, ever, ever work. It is not possible to change the system. Because if you do, the whole thing collapses or does not work anymore. You actually have to get rid of it and replace it with a better system.

  • @Roamin12345 The church was a necessity, though. It's been proven quite a few times that without a unifying power of some kind, Europe descends into Chaos. After all, with the death of the Western Roman Empire, there was nothing but pissed off, quarreling, Germanic petty kingdoms. After the 30 Years War, conflicts across Europe escalated to an unprecedented scale due to unregulated colonialism. The chaos didn't end until after WW2.

  • just a great song

  • @thebrassfacts- its in arydone in belfast ;) .

  • Raise your glasses to the brave souls of the IRA.

  • @AddictionNeverDies

extremists and terrorists? funny americans don't really refer to people like that as brave nowadays, or is it only brown skinned ones that are cowards?

  • @JD1010101110 ok dude your a pussy these people were fighting for ireland theyre own land that the english took from them. are americans terrists for fighting the english off too.

your such a pussy, probably from canida or france. when the english takr over your country i hope they f**k your wife in front of you, or mabey it will be your husband you fag

  • @blasterbryan18

Well the D in my tag stands for Doyle, so take a wild guess where my family is from? but at no point did I say Terrorism is evil, the UK used it very well in WW2 in fact perfecting it in modern form. Also since I actually know Irish history I know that the moderate nationalists went off to fight in WW1 and the leadership vacuum was filled by militant extremists like Collins and De Valera. Try reading books then you wouldn't appear so foolish.

  • @JD1010101110 Well I was gonna talk shit but it seems as though you pissed off another so i'll just sit back and laugh.

  • where is the 1916 rising musral at the beinning at?

  • who's the chick with the gun at 2:50 ? awesome! eireann go brach

  • Good thing an arch-feminist didn't find you. I'll explain:

That was Constance Markiewicz. She was one of the female leaders of the 1916 Rising. They would have executed her but they let her off because she was a "mixed-up little woman".

Well, she went on to be elected to Westminster in 1919 before Irish independence. She was the first woman ever elected to British Parliament (and as far as I know to any Parliament).

So "chick with a gun" could piss some people off basically. ;)

  • Thanks, much apreciated

  • didnt she demand to be excuted with the other leaders

  • is that it ??

  • what do you mean?
