I think, even if Malfoy doesn't hate Hermione, there would be no way anything could evolve. Mainly because of Draco's personality, it clashes rather heavily with Hermione's, and that's shown the many times she threatens him and of course the scene where she punches him in the face. If anything, I don't think Hermione has a suitable match in the book, it seems like she cares for everone else before herself. Just like Malfoy cares for noone but himself. So yeah....
