Blabber, blabber, blabber..... Why does mister blabbermouth have to spoil the video as if this is a dufus gridiron football game? Howard Cosell was AWFUL, and this is WORSE.
No kidding! A lot of people born on April 26! Hope you all had happy birthdays this year and that your birthdays in the future will be nothing less than spectacular!
No, I'm afraid I don't have that on tape. But it seems like I do have another aborted launch--a night shot, if I'm right, of the shuttle Columbia, when it was to deliver the Chandra X-Ray Observatory to orbit. I'll have to dig through my tapes and see if I still have it.
Dude ive well kinda been to one, I was mabey 6 or 7 years old in 2001 and I wzs flying down to florda with my family and i saw this shuttel take off.Its a whole nother world when your even with a shuttel at 35000 feet. Its a beautiful sight
yeah i went to florida when i was 8 and my dad dragged us over there at 6 in the morning. i knew it was good but i would definately appreciate it more now i'm a lot older
that was Joel Wells on STS-92--he also did STS-99 the SRTM mission [shuttle radar topography mission] and STS-102--thats the last i heard him do a launch. Wells sounds alot like Mitch Varnes-who youre hearing in this STS-55 video
You hear 2 announcer guys--1st one here is Mitch Varnes--Kennedy Space Center [Florida]--Varnes has since moved on to other things. After the shuttle lifts off you hear Kyle Herring in Houston--he's still around--the sound of his voice has changed slightly over the yrs
I'm most familiar with the voices of Hugh Harris (who called the launches up through STS-51L), Lisa Malone (who calls the launch of Daedalus in the movie Space Cowboys) and George Diller.
Nice one--nice to see STS-55 launch-i missed seeing this one-this was shortly before i got interested in watching and following these shuttle launches and landings--if you happen to have any more shuttle launches like this from around 1993--or any others from the 80s, 90s-i missed a bunch of them over the years--i watched and taped several over the years on CNN and/or NASA TV and in some cases ive lost the tapes i once had.nice to see this--STS-55 and the STS-61 video you have up as well

@centurion180ad, it's the man's job to comment on the launch. Without him, people wouldn't understand some of what's going on during the ascent.

Do you also have the aborted launch of STS-55 (March 22, 1993)?

You mean one from 1999 which is aborted at T-7 just before the ignition of the three main engines?
OentOent 2 years ago
I believe that's the one...If the engines had fired, it would've set the launch back several days.

BigBill783 4 years ago
BigBill, the only other one that I have from 1993 is STS-61, Endeavour, launching to repair HST. It's also out here on YouTube.
