  • Jesus Christ 6:53...... federer was literally an inch from a win which probably would have affected his confidence so profoundly, it would have changed the course of events such that he would have become comfortably the Greatest of all time. Literally, an inch, from the greatest of all time if he isn't already...

  • nadal didnt have his now-trademark forehand up the line against the righty forehand

  • WOW. Federer in 2006 was sublime. The strategy to go hard to nadal's backhand and then come in was working so well. And the volleys, just sublime. This was a match federer should have won. Credits to Nadal for withstanding Federer on that day.

  • why did this match go 5 sets ? its not a grand slam

  • Comment removed

  • True. Years ago Masters Series were to be played in the finals to 5 sets.Maybe you even heard about the so-called 5th Grand Slam, although not recognised "TMS Miami - Cayo Vizcaino".That is the only Masters Series, now called ATP 1000, who's got the same rounds as a Grand Slam. "R128, R64, R32, and so on".So they applied the rule to every single Masters Series to 5 sets in the final.Nevertheless, the ATP calendar grew since then full of other tournaments. Eventually, it was decided to be reduced.

  • @TheSnowMan717 Because the final in the Master Series was played like a Grand Slam match

  • Since Rome is played in 3 sets?

  • Federer so did not deserve to lose this.

  • this is Federer highlight

Where is the fuck amazing Rafa's point ???

  • @NeverLose11 There were just none... Federer played magnificently well in the two last sets. He was clearly the best and should have won.

  • @letosvet1

ok but typical Rafa on clay is better than the best of any one else .. everyone know that

so even if Rafa's shot was typical but they are the best so they should be shown

  • @NeverLose11 Rafa is the best player on clay but it doesn't mean that he has always the best shots. And it doesn't mean either that he can't be outplayed. Federer can be better than Nadal on one match on clay without that making him better on clay in general. And Rafa's typical shots certainly don't top Roger's brilliant shots here. I tell you, he was incredible and played the BEST points.

  • @NeverLose11 Nadal's a boring fuck who has never played an attractive shot in his life, in fact he admits his only plan is to hit every shot to Federer's backhand. Wow, he's a great player.

  • @TheRPGamer Do u know how much time was that match long???

  • @arisklms13 5 hours and 5 minutes

  • when you watch this, its federer doing all the entertaining. sometimes i feel sorry for nadals fans. how interesting can it be just to think "wooo he got it back... got it back again....got it back....got it back again"

  • @butterflycaught900

he doesn't make many mistakes, and his setting up of points is very meticulous---same with djoker

fed is a bit reckless sometimes, trying to be flashy

  • Federer what a duck!

  • wow how did nadal win this... with all his determination and courage... this is one of the best net approaches i see from fed against nadal actually....

  • nadal beat federer more games, but many of those matches ended well, winning by a little nadal

  • nadal makes fucking cry, it is very annoying!

  • Godly tennis from Federer but Nadal somehow managed to survive the crazy slaughter. Nadal's a fucking monster

  • the best, fed, ur such a genius player, you know what you are an intelligently genius athlete i know and the other one is Michael Jordan. just my opinion! look at his play against nadal. but nadal really did his very best to go with the play flow. nadal has a mental toughness.

  • @Rafathaman94 maybe Federer is gay so he's distracted by Nadal picking is nice looking butt ;)

  • It's matches like these where, it's really just who is better mentally, and Nadal is.

  • @OneWingDuck I dont know. One point there and it could've went the other way. You cant judge who's better mentally because of that. But, I have to admit Nadal is tough, he keeps playing pretty much the same through out the entire match. He doesnt go weak on the hard points. His game might not be nice and enjoyable to watch, but its effective. On the other hand thank God we have Roger to make things interesting :)

  • @Maxush I don't think it was luck that one Nadal this match, because he won the other 5 set match at monte carlo, and has one pretty much every other close clay match they play.

  • This match was good for the quality of it but bad for the choke of Roger!

I just noticed there are plenty of matches on clay where Roger was in a winning position and ended up loosing! Thats just ridiculous!

  • federer fan. mostly his highlights are shown. it's okay though cause rafa won.

  • the ball was out...

  • What actualy federer does in this match: he played only on Nadal's backhand, he tried to avoid completely Nadal's forehand and play on the backhand side to perturbate him and it worked very well for Federer and he was close from victory. To play someone in Tennis you need to read him, play on his weaknesses and bring him play on your strengths...THIS WAS A PERFECT TENNIS LESSON FROM FEDERER.AMAZING TACTICAL MATCH........

  • ebowass and kaalo6

Federer is more aggressive, so he makes many winners and many errors. Nadal is more defensive so he makes few winners and few errors. I'm not saying Federer is better, just that it's normal to see more of Federer in highlights because highlights don't show errors.

On hard and grass, Nadal makes more winners, but on clay his spin is so effective than he often waits for an error or an easier shot to pull a winner

  • best atp masters 1000 final ever

  • when nadal could get allmost any single ball, even federers forehands! No doubt it was allmost allways those two in the finals, and the result of nadals ability to get every ball in play is that fed of cause make more unforced errors and lose in the end! Greaaat match!

  • Federer plays very well than Nadal in this game .

Federer is simpy amazing , the best ever

  • Federer's volleying was extremely effective here... why did he stop?

  • @wanameet in 2005-2006, he was training under australian coach tony roache, who is a volley expert, multiple grand slam winner in doubles. I think that´s why federer was coming more to the net at that time, roger is staying back a little bit more these day´s, for some reason.

  • wtf is that ???? nadal won the match and most of the points in the video is for federer next time when u want to make federer highlights write it in the title ?? ,,, and what an unfair commenters , i dont know how sky sport hired them , am i the only one that see them in federer side?

  • maybe cos all nadals points come from Feds unforced errors! nadal doesnt hit winners hes a boring scrambler like murray

  • are u kidding me?!! and what an excuse?! is nadal winners not enough for a highlight video ?! im not sure about how many winners he hit in that match but he win 174points 18 from the net and 74 from federer unforced error , the rest is 82 point from where it comes ?! im sure he hit more than 50 winners and its damn enough for a highlight video.

  • his winners dont look good

  • @g2hm2a well, as most of the highlights are fed points, you hear them praising him. on nadal points, they in turn praise rafa. makes sense, doesn't it?

  • one of the greatest matches with the the world best players !! its a clay court though so u gotta be careful from nadal :D

  • toni nadal is right in saying federer has a better game, the best, but nadal is just his achilles' heel. Federer certainly is more entertaining to watch, more technically sound than nadal, but today's game doesn't suit federer's style of play. He was much more dominant in the transition years from fast courts, S&V game, to the slower courts. Now that the game has pretty much settled on Federer's weaker game, slow courts, he isn't as dominant. Also he's geting older, and Nadal, stronger.

  • @rockerduff1231 maybe that is why Federer won RG, Wimby, Cincinatti and the AO while Nadal has not won anything in 9 months?

  • @Bostero3771 that was 6 months ago. rafa has a career slam and pretty much swept this entire year so far. what now?

  • no....if you look at sampras who's 10 years older than Federer...he can play almost just as well as he used to...so federer will continue to improve

  • in this highlight why i see only federer's points?!?!

  • Fed made 70 and something unforced errors in the match. Showing more Nadal's points may also mean showing more unforced errors.

  • hahaha rule the tennis for 5 or 6 years ?? are you kidding ?? you are so funny ... NADAL HAS INJURIES YOU STUPID IDIOT !!he won't last another 3 years !! you are so funny ... you just do not know anything about tennis ... just read articles you stupid fagot

  • 2 men have good

  • This vis makes me sick !! 2 match points.

  • Nadal v Federer is the best match-up.

  • lets hope his knees heal well though

  • nadal's will vs. federer's skill. which wins?

  • Are you retarded? His knees are mushhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

He won't even be in the top 50 in 2-3 years, and he'll be retired in 4-5 tops.

  • Nadal is just so monstrously fast, any surface. His sliding kinda reminds me of Kim Clijsters', only he's faster. Getting an ace against him is harder than it is against any other player.

  • It's not that it's hard to ace him, it's just harder to hit winners. Aces are about control, deception, timing, placement and speed. It's really all on the server to manage his ace numbers.

Rarely is there a time when the returner is the reason aces aren't aces. Like Roddick against Federer in Wimbledon this year. 51 Aces? Federer's serve is not THAT good or THAT big, and I'm a Roger fan. If you bet me which player would have 50+ aces at the beginning of that match, I wouldn't have taken Fed.

  • Federer's serve is not THAT good?? Dude I would love to see you serve as great as Federer. I agree Fed's serve is not that big, but his serve is very good with deception and placement. You can't say his serve is not that good, cause its one of the best serves on the tour.

  • You took it the wrong way, fool.

I said his serve is not THAT good (emphasizing THAT, not GOOD), meaning that it's not good enough to put up 50 aces in a match. That should have never happened because he does not serve at incredible speeds or have great trajectory like Karlovic.

He absolutely has a great serve, but serving a lot of aces isn't about just serving well. You have to have a whole different skill set. Sampras serve was great, but he never served 50 aces in a match.

  • not really. acing him isn't that hard, but trying to drop shot him is hard

  • Even though I am a huge Federer fan, I have to seriously congratulate Nadal for his ability on the clay courts. It's an inspiration to watch him move on this field.

And many may argue, between who is better of these great players, there is something we must and always admit to, we were lucky to have scene these two in our era, let alone both.

  • @jstafuckinusername Yeah his buttpicking sure inspires me when im bored...

  • I actually think the quality of the match was better than their 2008 Wimbledon final. Incredible match.

  • I think nobody could ever stretch Rafa like Fed did on clay..not even Novak..though I heart Rafa a lot but I do wish Fed would get back on his a-game soon, coz believe it or not I sorta miss the rivalry..but now we're not seeing Roger in finals no more..well, but of course Nadal's gonna win his 5th RG..heheh vamos!

  • I think the main point you are missing here is that Nadal is 19 here and fed is at his ABSOLUTE PEAK. Look at 2006, fed was killing everybody except nadal, so from that, we can conclude that this was the closest fed was ever gonna get to nadal on clay. Now nadal is starting to reach his peak at 22 and fed is at his peak 27. The diff is that andym dojo and rafa have improved so much.

  • So you were wrong. Did you watch the nadal djokovic match yesterday? Djokovic streched nadal all the way in one of the greatest matches i have ever seen!

  • This match was better, they played well all the time.

  • well the rafa nole match was also really good. nadal played bad in his opening service game but after that it was very incredible and tight. But whan i meant was that djokovic can also stretch nadal on clay not just federer like that person said.

  • Djokovic proved that he is the 2nd best claycourter right now for sure. Regarding the matches, this one was better overall; I mean both were great, but if I have to pick one, there's no doubt(And i was jumping in my chair yesterday).

  • haha yeah i also think this match was better. i think because it was a final and a 5 setter and also some great hitting. But i think last year wimbledon final was even greater with the 9-7 in the fifth set. what do you think ? ooh yeah the rome 2005 coria nadal was also incredible!

  • yea yea so I made a mistake..

still..my champ won against him (again)..we'll see how the outcome wud be in the final today vs Fed..if it's better than the semis, than I was right, but if not, well let's say now Djok is the real contender on clay for the king..

  • the video uploader must be a great federer fan. moustly federer points in this glip even to he loses the game

  • @kaalo6 i was just thinking the same thing...

  • Roger Roger...

This The Roger that i wana see now...

    Just Perfect

  • i watched this game, and i think this highlights is showing too many federer's great shots.. Nadal himself, he did many unbelievable shots making in the game, yet it is not shown in this highlights.. that's why people may wonder how on earth federer lose this.. Well, in my opinion, this was the best game that federer has ever had against nadal on clay.. however, nadal once again displayed his great mental strength, refused to dismantle by federer..

  • couldn't agree more.

  • it's because it did not show the great game of nadal.

  • dont know how fed could lose this

i mean its so hard ..just hasnt enough luck or what

  • How didn't Fed win? Well, congrats to Nadal, great match, great upload :)

  • Seriously, I watched this not knowing the result, and I thought he deserved it....Nadal played some amazing points, but Damn Fed was playing PERFECT clay court tennis, Nadal was on the ropes...

Nadal is the king right now, but in 2006, Fed had the game to beat him

  • @thegreatNEb I agree with you, this match in particular could have gone either way, I vagely remember nadal´s reaction, when he won, his reaction was of someone, who couldn´t believe he pulled off the win, all credit to him of course, because he just doesn´t give up mentally on himself ever, his self-belief, competitveness, fire, determination is just fierce.

  • @thegreatNEb Federer has always had the game to beat him. This match was the turning point in the sense that after this Federer has never had it mentally against Nadal. He's choked away lots of matches against him, particularly on clay. If he had won this the h2h would look totally different now.

  • @ninman58

It must be so hard for him, I'm not sure if there was ever a 'turning point' as such, I think that Nadal has in a way 'solved tennis'. So many times Federer has been on fire against Nadal hitting ridiculous winners and pushing Nadal around with brilliant serving and constant pressure on the return games, but how long can he do it for? Will Nadal ever lose heart and think to himself that it's over? Probably not, thus the 4th set demolition we saw at the RG last week.
