@billyfrmhill No, they are repeating the estimates of one engineer from the 1960s who did not really know whether the towers would withstand the low speed impact of a boeing 707 lost in fog, and presumed that such an accident would probably never occur anyway, because even in the 60s technology was such that a beacon on the world trade center would be able to easily warn any incoming plane that it was flying too close. It probably never occured to him that such an "accident" would be deliberate.

Building 7 was hit by a huge amount of debris and was on fire for a long time. About 20% of the ground floor was gone.

The towers were designed in the 1950s, and the biggest airliner even on the drawing board was the boeing 707 which was much slower, lighter and carried less fuel than the 767 ER, and the engineers lacked even the most basic computer technology to calculate the stresses such a collision would have created. In short, the engineers could NOT have designed the WTC to withstand the stresses it was subjected to.

@dexterriley Building 7 had the same kind of column free trussed concrete floors that 1 and 2 had, and the loadbearing facade suffered massive damage in the first two collapses. Other nearby buildings like the Verizon building (brick encased columns throughout, needed a billion dollars worth of repairs) and deutsche bank building(concrete encased columns, needed careful demolition) , though not as close, also suffered a lot of damage.
