This was the reason Tesla was blackbilled by Morgan (The bank Mogul), and thats why we havent had this technology until now, even though itwas mastered just about 100 years ago. They couldn't find a way to make money off it, so they destroyed it.
Getting rid of the cords is nice...but now is there a chance for energy transmission from: small devices (micro solar/wind/hydro devices) that convert the DC energy to RF energy. The RF is collected by electric devices and RF collectors in the house/car/etc.
Saw a presentation made by the inventor at the AVS conference in San Francisco, Nov 2006. It's theoretically sound and could have been invented a long time ago, but as the inventor said, there was no real need for it until now. It only works over small distances, e.g. a room. Because it uses the magnetic field component, it is not much affected by metal objects. However, I believe the dependence of resonance on the surrounding dielectric properties will be a killer.
In the book im reading about Tesla (Life and times of Tesla), it mentions that Tesla did infact manage to transfer power wirelessly; He managed to light a bulb several blocks away using his technology.
If he lived any longer, he would have discovered God. Why is it that human always take 1 step forward and 3 steps back? This wireless energy crap has been known for 100 years. HA! imagine wireless power, have whole power farms in space transmit energy to a land based station. FUTURE FTW
supposedly he created longitudinal waves or scalar waves which are different than convetional emwaves. this is why he could transfer energy with a high efficientcy. check out the movie the prestige, thats a great renactment of teslas research with the wireless energy transfer to light bulbs.
WTF? Are you nit-picking or do you really not understand? The "structures" used to transfer the power "resonate" at a specific frequency of the electromagnetic spectrum which maximizes the efficiency of the transfer. Follow the link I gave for more specific info.
Only people make such distinctions between the two. There you have it I said two. All there truly exist is a continuation of motion and interaction. Macro, micro, fire, steam, water, air, is all subatomic particles in the end. Wet, dry, fire, air, that just a human interpretation.
it would be cool to get rid of all the little wall warts, but I do wonder how much of all this wireless EVERYTHING is affecting life sometimes. Are we slowly cooking our brains with microwaves? I forget the movie's title, but I saw one once where folks were going crazy because of it. (I know, 'it's just a movie!')
everytime someone uses a cell phone, the waves from it destract the bees so they can't find their way home. This kills them eventually... which is why the bee population is dropping. Therefor, the bees don't polinate out plants as much...creating less oxygen and evetually killing us all. (Thats the short vertion). Nice blog, but are cords really that bad?
Seriously, the bee-cellphone thing is pure BS. Only the European Apis melifera is dying off and I think a much better guess is a new parasite because there isn't enough genetic diversity in the inbred populations we maintain in apiaries. Wild bees are thriving just fine and they are the main pollinators in non-agricultural settings.
there will be a time when high transmission lines will be obsolete, replaced by resonant induction towers.

this sounds like the sort of thing that would give everyone cancer...

you sound like the type of person that associates cancer with anything you don't understand.

Would be great for wireless keyboards and mice. No more batteries. Or cords.

Resonant transmitter/receiver pair might work in idealized setup, such as when both suspended in the air away from any other conductors.
But in real life, what will prevent this magnetic field emitter from inducing eddies in nearby metal objects?

Is there any electrical feat he didn't achieve?

"resonant structures"? that's chemistry, not physics.
Josephers 4 years ago
Thus proving you know very little about physics...

resonance structures are lewis structure diagrams, but I do believe that this system uses "resonant frequency", not "resonant structure".

@wogsland Unfortunately he does not know that almost all of chemistry is within physics =P

Hate to point this out, but chemistry relies on physics.

Seems like I heard talk of this a long time ago (20-25 years). But I thought it was a joke.
You'll also have manufacturers of power cords coming after you. :)

Actually, microwaves cook your eyeballs the quickest. You'll go blind long before your brain starts to cook.

I think it will be perfectly safe, but I have doubts about the efficiency too.
Any way, dirty energy is dirty energy, with or without the power cords.
