It'd be nicer to have a comparison about some of those numbers (sorry I don't know what an I-OPS is) but I do know what 800 megabyte write speeds mean!
I think it'd be a bit weird to plug in any sort of storage device in to a PCI-E slot so I would imagine that some new high(er) bandwidth bus other than SATA or USB is most likely in the works.
jabcreations, A high end harddrive will do around 250 IOPS (Input Output Operations per Second) This card does 200,000 IOPS. That is 80,000% faster. Do you now get why the guy can't stop smilling.
To be fair let's consider which skills they have concentrated on improving...not acting obviously but the end result will be us with much faster hardware in the next few years. :-)
Dean, what you should do is contact AMD and try to sell this technology to them. That way they can integrate a 16 channel SSD controller into their CPUs and motherboard manufacturers can place a DIMM slot on their motherboards. Then we can just buy a 8GB or 16GB SSD DIMM for $50 and get the same kind of performance. They're going to do it eventually, so you may as well make Micron some money from licensing fees. Imagine if every computer had a 16GB SSD with those kinds of IOPs, for cheap!
he is so glad that he keep smiling all the time. haha. IO-drive. yea micron is not the first one. keep on the good work, we just went the best drive that comes out trough several challenging companies. ;)
Great, another vendor on the market offering the same as what Fusion-IO has already had on the market for over a year now, ioDrive. The specs are almost excactly the same too. But this is a good thing, SATA is no place for a SSD.
I hope this could change the way SSD is going as HDD replacement. They each have a good side. HDD is bulk storage, SSD is performance. Why try running a performance drive as a bulk storage impersonator?
they are senior engineers and the guy is talking to his boss on camera, this isn't what they're used to and they're just having a good time. And I can tell it isn't what you're used to either, because you've totally misread them. Go outside and get some more experience with people
I'm currently studying EE, and I figure that if I had developed that kind of hardware, I'd be fucking smiling all of the fucking time. I mean, those numbers are giving me a hard on as we speak.
They're running XP x64 Edition, for those interested..

SSD will overtake magnetic for density pretty soon. Having bulk magnetic atm only makes sense because SSD is in its (relative) infancy

Prices are already pretty decent if you don't need to store half the internet on your drive, and next year the SSD avalanche will start for real.

What sort of applications do you figure these cards will be most suited for? My first guess would be web and database servers. Sounds exciting!
