He could use a pick because he likes the sound of a pick better than fingers, not because his fingers are tired. Picks sound brighter than fingers and they're louder so maybe he just wants his bass to sound brighter. I think he still uses his fingers sometimes.

yeah music mans rock, love the sound of em, too bad there like $3500 AU. some bassists who use picks are good like Matt Freeman from Rancid and paul mccartney. it dosnt mean hes a failed guitarist, he probably just prefers the sound the picks give, which is a more hard hitting sorta sound, whereas fingers give a bassy sorta sound. if he used his fingers it would sound kinda crappy for this genre of music in my opinion. listen to chick magnet by MxPx, pretty cool bass line.

Yeah man, sadly not too cheap! Personally I don't like using a pick but Rancid's bassist is shit hot but he uses his fingers at the same time as a pick which is pretty damn cool! But Paul McCartney is a failed guitarist... I know due to doing Music in College and having to watch 16hours of DVDs on The Beetles! yawn! But they did smoke a spliff in Buckingham Palace where the Queen lives :P

He probably has to use a pick now.. I played bass in punk bands for 10 years, and age catches up to a person... Mike is my age, and we're both in our 30's... Athletes retire early because of the abuse they put on their bodies... So, Mike's fingers are probably getting tired...
