This is indeed "the last sunderland" refurbished at Calshot. En route to it's new home in Florida with Fantasy of Flight, they did a flyover. Formerly Islander, in the service of Ansett Airlines (Australia), serial ML814, it was a RNZAF Sunderland before conversion to civilian use. Still the last airworthy Sunderland, this would have indeed been its last flight in the UK. I don't know if it still flies occasionally. The story is told in the short film oddly enough called "The Last Sunderland".
For dpsherry, it was I believe a Sandringham, which was basically a civilianised Sunderland. As they'd made attempts at returning it to look like a Sunderland it's fair to call it as such I think.
magnificent aircraft....was used as a coastal patrol/anti-submarine aircraft...the germans called it the flying porcupine as it was very capable of defending itself.I believe that this particular aircraft is now owned by Kermit Meeks of the planes of fame museum here in Florida...however the aircraft is in Everett Washington at a museum there.
