Stop shusshing the kid! And that isn't a tornado! Also, tell people in Plainfield, IL that tornadoes only travel northeast (Look-up August 28, 1990) You have kids in your car with you in a severe thunderstorm along the side of a wet interstate with trucks and cars going by you at 60+. Please..pick-up garbage, wash-dishes, do accounting..don't storm chase -- you're terrible. This reminds me of Naked Gun (normally you wouldn't be going 65 the wrong way down a 1-way street); think about that.
That is a great structure shot of a well formed supercell you got there but without a doubt no tornado, at least in your video. What you are seeing there is a hail core, and a nasty on at that. Had you drove through there you most likely would have lost your windows due to hail and had some nice bruises to show off. But that is a textbook example of a hail core.
i was in colfax Ill for this storm a few mile north east of downs. it wasn't shit i was on foot in town the whole time man. but it was kinda scary give ya that
I live in Mansfield & work in Bloomington - had NO IDEA this happened! I never heard anything on the local news & drive through Downs to get to work on I74 & haven't seen any damage. Weird!
It's a nasty storm... We live just 15 miles from downs and watched the storms pass. We even watched the tornado that hit Heyworth form... @wmeise is correct. No tornado was produced but it's still very intimidating especially when you've never seen a storm like that before! Nice video!
I live in Farmer City, which is 2 towns east of downs. I saw rotation from my house since I live on the west side of town. Sure was scarey. Cool video.

I remember that night. I was living in Champaign-Urbana at the time and had to hang out in my bathroom for a while listening to the radio.
sinshamsh11 2 weeks ago
@sinshamsh11 I also hang out in my bathroom, but I usually read a good book, and absolutely not during storms.

THEINVENTABLETHREAT 2 months ago
@THEINVENTABLETHREAT Yes, but there could possibly be a rain-wrapped tornado behind it rain shaft. It's called "punching the core" when you enter it.

this is clearly NOT a tornado

No tornado but a great wall cloud video. Although there was minimal rotation... this was not a tornado but a scary sight none the less.

Wall cloud with rotation, enough to call a warning, but rotation ends as it passes in front. No tornado.
