You didn't say but was that a Bedan you were using to hog-off wood in the beginning? I am interested in purchasing one but I'm not sure what size (width) to get for the first one. Any comments will be appreciated.
Why use a jig rather then using a gouge to make the sphere. Doesn't working on learning to make spheres improve your skills.

I believe that he was using a square carbide tool to get rid of the stock so that he could use the sphere jig.
