Man was a genius...............pure solid gold GENIUS. Not said lightly either......am an old ex. pro muso who'd have given anything for a piece of GR's talent for music AND LYRICS. Say no more. RIP Gerry xxx
@Elizabeth5830 You might also want to listen to Gerry's faithful rendition of an old Irish traditional song called "She moved through the fair'" It is very nice and very true to the version we Northern Irish are used to. It's on YouTube
Sinead O'Connor did a version of the McPeakes' "My Singing Bird" - you might like to listen to it and compare its 'feel' and qualities with Gerry's masterful composition which was possibly inspired by this old song. Search string: sinead o'connor my singing bird
@MsClaire1961 Yeah, that be the case. Not EVERY Rafferty track was Baker Street. I personally enjoy almost everything Gerry recorded. Not a huge fan of Why Don't You Talk To Me since it is too country for my tastes.

This is a really cool track, why so many views and only 1 like, maybe people are assuming that all rafferty tracks will feature the saxophone??

In Northern Ireland in the 1960s, the McPeake Family used to sing an Ulster-Scots folk song called "My Singing Bird".
Gerry may have heard this old song and decided to make his own creation based on this idea.
The result is a classic Rafferty vocal in a very simple and unadorned arrangement.
Aussies for Gerry!!
