Tal vez no sea tan descabellado el resultado, gran parte de la fuerza de los Aztecas estaba basada en la organización y cohesión de sus batallones. Los guerreros Zande por otro lado estaban acostumbrados a un frenesí instintivo con menos estrategia militar pero con un ataque más feroz.
