I am closer now to 40 than 30 and the memory of it still remains with me as being very frightening.
@caerleon87 So what if AMys frisby is melting a frisby can be replaced a life cannot, Amy gave Jimmy foolish advice but Jimmy went along with it and got himself killed by letahal electricity silly lad.If Amy was my sister, and we lost our frisby in a substation and Amy said go on get it I would say Amy for goodness sake woman the frisby is in an electrical substation full of dangerous live electrical apparatus if we go in there we will get a fatal electric shock. Amy we will buy another frisby.
@ DaOneToRuleDaWorld The girl is not Alisa she is called Amy and Amy is a foolish girl saying to Jimmy presumably her brother go on get it when the frisby goes into the substation and gets lodged on an insulator. Jimmy is daft enough to go into the substation and get fatally electrocuted silly boy. Amy was very traumatised in billions of ways losing a frisby is not worth losing sleep over. Jimmy died and Amy screamed in horror poor girl.
@PaulMichaels78 I say when I saw the ad where Amy and Jimmy, were playing near the electrical subsstation and the frisbee went into the substation and got lodged on an insulator and Amy said to Jimmy go on get it.I was around the age of 12 @13 and I was never scared or freaked out by this ad in fact this ad taught me vital lessons do not play near substations or electric pylons with frisbees or toys of any type. Amy and Jimmy should havebought another frisbee not tried to retrieve that frisbee.
@Smackmiranda Amy the young girl, in the substation advert is a very foolish girl saying to Jimmy her brother go on get it but Jimmy is daft enough to go into the electrical substation and get himself fatally electroctued and burnt to toast . Amy was no doubt very traumatised over Jimmys death and she could have committed suicide as a result of the trauma of jimmys death poor Amy.
@smackmiranda Amy was a very foolish girl sayint to Jimmy go on get it but Jimmy was a n even sillier lad to actively go into the substation for Amy's frisbee and get himself electrocuted.
@ferrretshockey Jimmy was a silly lad, he went into the substation at Amy's urging him by saying go on get it and Jimmy was foolish enough not to say to Amy. Amy do not be so silly woman we must, not go itn to substations they are downright dangerous woman. Jimmy as I see him was not trying to impress Amy he was ,been a silly lad and he got fatally electrocuted and burnt to totast.
@bazpannts77 Amy Jimmy's was a very foolish girl, when she said go on get it but Jimmy was a n even sillier lad to go into the substation. Imagine if there were substations with 33,OOO, OOO volts 33,ooo,ooo, ooo volts or even 33,ooo, ooo, ooo volts. The voltagge would not only kill the victim outright like the 33,ooo volts one did it would also vaporise the victim into ash and dsut.
@Frankiem1974 Amy is a very foolish girl, and gives her brother Jimmy foolish advice to go into an eelctrical substation to retrieve her frisbee and Jimmy gets a lethal electric shock silly lad.
@DaOneToRuleDaWorld Amy the girl in the psa Playsafe frisbee is the sister of Jimmy and Amy gives Jimmy very foolish advice saying go on get it but Jimmy is the one daft enough to go into an electrical substation to retrieve Amy's frisbee silly lad and Jimmy ends up dead and burn tto toast.
@JohnnyBravo74 Amy is a very foolish girl, saying to her brother Jimmy go on get it and Jimmy is daft enough to go into the substation and get a fatal electric shock silly boy.
@JohnnyBravo74 Amy is a very foolish girl, but Jimmy is an even dafter lad to go into the electrical substation an dget a fatal electric shock. If Jimmy had said to Amy, Bollocks you go then, he would have been giving the same foolish advice to Amy as Amy gave to Jimmy it would not solve anything at all.
Ah ... I loved Saturday morning telly in the 70s. UFO, Space 1999, Thunderbirds, Banana Splits, Why Don't You, TISWAS, Swap Shop, Children's Film Foundation and the obligatory scary public information film, great stuff!
I remember the ad where Jimmy goes into the electrical substation was shown in the early 80s on television during the school holidays about ten thirty am and I was never freked out by this ad but I learnt to saty out of electricla substations. I also learnt that if toys, go into substations do not try to retriecve them yourself or else you will end up dead.
@ dutchgirl96 The girl who screams Jimmy is called Amy and Amy is a very foolish girl, for giving Jimmy sily advice but Jimmy does nothing to rsist it. Amy poor girl witnesses Jimmy dying, and screams Jimmy because she is witnessing her brother been fatally electrocuted poor Amy.
@FrankieM1984 Jimmy is daft enough to go into the electrical substation at Amy his sister's foolish nagging but Amy is not a snotty little cow at all. Amy is a very foolish girl, I admit that but Jimmy is daft enough to go into the electric substation to retrieve the frisbee and he gets a lethal electric shock stupid boy.
@PaulMichaels78 Jimmy was daft enough to go into the substation on Amy his sister's silly advice, but Jimmy did nothing to resist Amys silly advice he got a lethal shock and died poor lad.
@DaOneToRuleDaWorld JImmy is silly enough to go into an electrical substation and Amy his sister when she sees Jimmy, fatally electrocuted screams in horror poor girl.
@kingklabe So do I mate, I particularly remember the ad where Amy and Jimmy play frisbee, near an electrical substation and the frisbee goes into the substation and Amy says to Jimmy go on get it and Jimmy is daft enought o go into the substation to retrieve Amy's frisbee and he gets a fatal electric shock and dies and is also burnt to toast silly lad that is a price people pay if they mess about with lethal electricity. They will end up dead, and burnt toast silly fools but there you are.
I remember another public info film (late 60s/early 70s) featuring alien spacemen trapping/abducting cars on countryside roads. Their ploy was to put the trap on sharp bends in the road, so the point of the film was always to drive slowly round bends where you can't see what lies ahead. It was quite a creepy at the time.
Oh so THAT's where clunk click comes from. I was born in the 90s and my mum who was a child in the 70s always said that to me and I always thought it was stupid because the seatbelt only made one click... I miss the hedgehog films we had to watch in school
The substation film terrified me as a child. Just how it should be - scare the living bejaysus out of kids so they fear the world. Fearless kids are the bane of society - put an end to this madness with horrifying propaganda of children being killed, that's what I say. Worked for me. ;)

& STAND UP TO THE ISRAEL/AMERICA PACT OVER PALESTINE!
Palestinians have to live on only 15% of regular supplies DUE TO THE ILLEGAL ISRAELI BLAOCKADE WHICH HAS STOOD FOR DECADES. Or are we just another U.S. lap dog state now?
oh the good old days ,,now kids have to worry about some fucking nonce off the internet trying to stick their cock in them ,terrorists blowing them up ,knife crime ,gun crime drugs cyber bullying and the fear of goiing home for tea and finding mommy sucking some old mans cock just to put food on the table or daddy sucking an old mans cock or worse you have to suck it yourself and its the only meat your gonna get cause a chicken now costs £56 due to hyperinflation
@simpleearthling or you go home and its been repossessed by the bank because your mom and dad bought a house for £400k and it now worth 53p ,you havent eaten for a week because the supermarkets are empty and you tried to grow your own food but a pack of seeds cost £50 and will only grow if you use the chemicals produced by the same geneticists that made the seeds in the first place ,so you end up eating weeds out of the local park but they taste bitter due to the fact that all the thousands of
@simpleearthling dogs keep pissing all over them or most of the plants have been destroyed by the 1000's of tents used by all the homeless people that now live in them so what do i think of the seventies,, they were the good old days the police didn,t tazer you for not wearing a seatbelt and you couldnt get arrested for a having a fag with your pint popstars wrote their own songs and a pair of tits on page 3 was a bit extreme ,fuck modernisation
The loud humming noise that comes from electrical equipment should be enough to creep anyone out. House AC does not make that noise- that why I was not afraid to stick things in the sockets.
Splink? How silly. What was wrong with "Look right, look left, look right again and if there's nothing coming walk (don't run) across the road, looking and listening all the way......" That's what the squirrel "Tufty" told us to do.
@Pirateduckies yeah, these things could happen here, 2 but no one's as worried about them. Like that weird one about escalator safety. Now I have another thing to have nightmares about at night (where the kids leg gets wedged in the escalator) kids must have had nightmares about them, especially the jimmy one. Or that one with the puppets and strangers. Ugh.
I know if Amy the little girl in the advert with the frisbee, going into the substation was my sister and we played frisbee near a substation if the frisbee flew into the substation and got lodged on an insulator I would have left it where it was. If Amy said go on get it , I would say Amy we're not supposed to go in there. If Amy said oh go on, there's a gap down there a gang of kids broke in yesterday I saw them. I would say Amy for heaven's sake woman, breaking in is a crime we must stay out.
I think in the video with the lad Jimmy who is fatally electrocuted by 66,ooo volts in a substation was a silly lad, but his sister who I have named Amy is not really a snotty little cow . Amy said about this gang of kids breaking in the substation, but she did'nt send Jimmy in to the substation to his death at all. People who say Jimmy's blood is on Amy's hands are being melodramatic. Amy did'nt kill her brother Jimmy, he was foolish enough to enter the substation to get Amy's frisbee out.
@dutchgirl96 The girl who screams Jimmy is called Amy. Amy is a foolish girl, and she says to Jimmy go on get it which is daft but Jimmy s daft enough to go into the substation and get fatally electrocuted silly lad. I agree Amy has perfect teeth for whatever age she was at the time this film was made. I would imagine Amy AKA Jayne Tottman is now out of the acting profession and she is probably running a pub or a restaurant who knows where Amy is nowadays.
Oh god,,,this 1st public information advert haunted me as a child.......Donald Pleasence at his best...I'll be back, back back ...no wonder I've grown up disturbed...LOL......do you remember the one with the grain silo.??.lol..a Tiny Tears doll drowning a sea of grain.....all viewed whilst wearing a Bri-Nylon static dress...marvellous!!!.. Sophie :)))
@hasanyonetakenthis1 Don't be silly being electrocuted in Substations, is not cool and Amy and Jimmy were foolish enough to play near a substation with a frisbee Amy said to Jimmy her brother go on get it he was daft enough to go in the substation and get a fatal electric shock silly lad
JIMMY!!!!!!!! hahaha. And she's a jack little fucker. "go and get it.... I saw a gang of kids break in the other day".... Wot wot wot.. Snotty little cow!!
@FrankieM1974 Amy is not a snotty little cow, you silly boy Amy is a foolish girl saying to her brother Jimmy go on get it. But Jimmy is a n even sillier lad, to go into the electrical substation to retrieve Amys frisbee. What you are inferring is Amy is a murderer you cannot say that really, Amy is a thoughtless girl but not a murderer your emphasis on Amy is totally wrong matey.
Well, better to have a nightmare or two over a scary commercial and learn a lesson, than to crash your car, drown in a lake, or get hit by a bus in the middle of the street and die. I grew up in drug-ridden NYC in the 70's, and before walking to school I'd be drilled by my folks about not getting into stranger's cars or talking to people I didn't know. Thank God for those lessons.
Thats a young Todd Carty 'Tucker Jenkins' in the blue jumper on the last advert 'SPLINK'...I know the lad in the middle too but can't think of his name...
They should bring this type of advert back, there's too many kids getting injured or killed unnecessarily...they worked for us back then, why not now ???
i remember the one where the lads boots are hanging on the overhead cables over the railway line & he picks up the metal pole to get em down, that used to scare the crap outta me as a kid in the 70s
@fatandim I mean horrible by today's softy approach. They wouldn't dream of showing anything as disturbing, for children or not, as the Jimmy Saville advert before 7pm at least. There are nasty road safety ads on now (drink driving ones) but they're always shown in the evening. To an innocent child like myself in the 1970s, these were the stuff of nightmares.
@dangale "Horrible to think they were shown in daytime" " Stuff of nightmares!!!!!!" YEEEEEES tis why it was so much fun and the fear was INVIGORATING. YAY!! Especially the dark and lonely water. These info films were one of the great reasons why it was so much fun to be a 70's/ 80's kid. Thanks so much for making me shit me pantys all over again- happy fekkin times!!! AwooooHoooo!! ;oD.
No wonder Threads was so bloody scary. I reckon the same crew made that as made these. I imagine they see it as their greatest ever work.
Surprised they didn't have Rolf Harris as the H-Bomb man or something: "G'day children. Remember, global thermonuclear war destroys everything you love. Twice. So think F - Fire U - Universal; C - Civilisation K - Killed; E - Everything R - Radioactive. So think Nuclear War, kids - think 'FU.....'" etc.
I was going to break into a substation to fetch my frisbee, but then I saw this film on ITV, and decided against it. Thank you, ITV public information film, for setting my mind on the right course. I never got over losing that frisbee. It was like a little brother to me. But at least I wasn't electrocuted, which would have really pissed me off for the rest of the week.
You see, Jimmy should of used SPLINK so he didn't have to be late to the park and get the ball out of the water. Also, his mum wouldn't of had a car accident if he used SPLINK. Now as a punishment Jimmy has to play with Alisa, the smelliest girl in the school, in the fiel near the sub station as a prank because he was late... JIMMY!!
Despite knocking 30 years of age, I am still completely terrified of expanses of water and electricity sub-stations and pylons! Can anyone tell me where to find that nauseating pub-info film regarding building sites? I believe it was called 'Building Sites Bite'? Now THAT was an info film I haven't fully recovered from yet!
@KittenSoft41019 me too I hate walking in the countryside if I can hear the humming of pylons.......and lochs/lakes as they usually as well as being vast stretches of water ,almost always are next to a power station
I wonder if they have any suggestions about how to avoid being killed with napalm or how to defend yourself from a serial rapist or murderer... nope... just drowning and crossing the road. Shit! : (
holy shit ... this is just sooooooooo wrong for sooooooo many reasons but its sincerely hilarious... thank god I wasnt exposed to this type of rape... fear is a disease and spreading it deliberately should be punishable by jail! This is definately the mark of the society that spawned hobbes and bentham. Sheesh... creepy people.
To this day I am scared shitless of pylons because of that clip

I would say Amy for heaven's sake woman, breaking in is a crime we must stay out.
rojblake82 1 year ago
I think in the video with the lad Jimmy who is fatally electrocuted by 66,ooo volts in a substation was a silly lad, but his sister who I have named Amy is not really a snotty little cow . Amy said about this gang of kids breaking in the substation, but she did'nt send Jimmy in to the substation to his death at all. People who say Jimmy's blood is on Amy's hands are being melodramatic. Amy did'nt kill her brother Jimmy, he was foolish enough to enter the substation to get Amy's frisbee out.

dutchgirl96 1 year ago
@dutchgirl96 The girl who screams Jimmy is called Amy. Amy is a foolish girl, and she says to Jimmy go on get it which is daft but Jimmy s daft enough to go into the substation and get fatally electrocuted silly lad. I agree Amy has perfect teeth for whatever age she was at the time this film was made. I would imagine Amy AKA Jayne Tottman is now out of the acting profession and she is probably running a pub or a restaurant who knows where Amy is nowadays.

Why was it horrible to show them on daytime telly when most of them are directed at children to make them think about being safe?
fatandim 1 year ago 4
@fatandim I mean horrible by today's softy approach. They wouldn't dream of showing anything as disturbing, for children or not, as the Jimmy Saville advert before 7pm at least. There are nasty road safety ads on now (drink driving ones) but they're always shown in the evening. To an innocent child like myself in the 1970s, these were the stuff of nightmares.
dangale 1 year ago 4

Er, never mind.
