what a shame that Rob does not mention that everything he says is actually RAY VANDER LAAN's material which is available free of charge at Ray's website. Rob is simply doing a scaled down lesson of stuff that Ray spends several hours teaching on. The "FRIEND" Rob mentions who went to jewish seminary and didn't have scripture memorized is Ray Vander Laan himself.
Come on bro, if you're gonna borrow someone else's material, at least have the courtesy to mention him....borderline plagiarism.
@hakman8 In his book, Velvet Elvis, Rob Bell not only cites Vander Laan as his source for this - he also says some extremely nice things about Vander Laan. Rob tells how Vander Laan is his favorite teacher and cites Ray's website as a source of information.
Come on bro, if you're gonna judge someone for the material they use, at least have the courtesy to research it....borderline ignorant.
This is so true. Just as a society can fall apart when it doesn't understand it's roots so does a faith when it is severed from it's roots. This is where the fathers of our faith drew their knowledge and understanding. This is our roots. Torah is our roots and Yeshua was obedient to every letter of Torah.
Hasn't he ever heard about classical Greek methods of learning? It had nothing to do with spitting out information when propped, it's about dialectics and learning through questions.
I call both those who support and oppose this man's teachings to consider 1 Corinthians 3:9-15 (New International Version) (paraphrase) each man must build on the foundation of Christ, and what he builds there will be tested on the Day (of judgment), anyone's work who survives will be given a reward, but anyone's work who crumbles/burns up will be saved, but as through fire,
Don't be so quick to judge when that is God's place and not ours, but don't be lead astray by strange teachings either.
The problem with Rob's whole argument is that it is based on rabbinic literature wrtten from between 200-600 years after Christ. Scholars have long warned about the perils of reading back into Jesus' teaching and ministry ideas and practices from a later age. This is anachronistic. I wrote to Rob a few years ago, drew this to his attention, and offered to direct him towards helpful scholarly literature, but he never replied.
well the guy did graduate from arguably the best seminary in the world...i think he knows a bit more than the average person who reads the bible...that is his source...that Christian institution has, in essence, said that Mr. Bell has a great understanding of the scriptures and the faith...
Which part? He says a lot, so if you have a specific questions about where he gets something, I would be happy to let you know where he gets that info
Would a woman be learning the same information that a man would be at that age(12)? Women were different but equal. Different, in that they had different functions within the community, but equal in importance.
everybody needs to forsake the foolish traditions of men, and follow Jesus with the entirety of their hearts. There is no other way, Jesus died to show you, but our ignorance directs us back to traditions that do not bring us closer to our holy God, they bring us closer to the church. Do not build your foundations on the church, build it on the rock of Jesus, his teachings.
Rob Bell is far more competent that any other television slinging money hungry evangelist. He speaks of the heart of god.
@Soldier7of7Christ What I mean is that "18Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works."
Brilliant brilliant brilliant!! Only problem-- Mary (Miriam) almost certainly was NOT schooled in Torah.

how do you practice what you do not know?

I'm not a Bell follower, brother, he just says nonsense.
I just meant that he's... well, sooo worldly!

@6qrents so, are you un-worldly? we are all in this world.
kmil60 1 year ago
@kmil60 Yes we are, but those who are IN Christ are led by the Spirit and put their minds in the things of the Spirit.
