It was great that you let this nest go. Wasps are not out to get people and whenever I do a job I advise removal as a last resort (they can even be relocated without being killed). These look like D. arenaria (aerial yellowjacket). They have a shorter season completing their cycle by late August.
Once again you have an awesome attitude about these fascinating insects.
@herc1120 I find them very fascinating and I enjoy just standing there and watching them work their nest. It is very cool, how they can build such things
@mnuper They get much larger than what you see here. The wasps can deliver a very nasty bite. I got bitten this past summer right on my nose, lol. Ouch!
Time to get rid of that thing they don't like brake parts cleaner (for cleaning car parts) I have tried that on them. A tiger torch is always fun they don't like being roasted lol.
my son would so be itching to take that down. he is the resident wasp nest killer. mike is the official fly assassin & i am the mosquito and ant get-rider of lady. we have all chosen our battles here but in this rainy weather i am loosing, lord could there be more mosquitos?
@edenbainbridge Last wasp nest this size I blasted down with a shotgun, lol. That is one thing we don't have to worry about here is Mosquitoes. Our Summers are so dry and they need moisture to multiply. There are so few here you could count them on one hand, lol. I sat out last night until 10:30 pm at a party and not one bite by any bug.
Fuck that bich up!

@yz125ryder It hasn't got any bigger because they kind of stop building it in our cooler Fall and Winter months. It is still the same size
